The connection between Bill getting her mind wiped and the Doctor losing his memories of Clara is already enough of a punch to the gut, but for me it also brought back memories of what happened to Donna too, and how much the loss of her own memories changed her as a person (and not necessarily in a good way). Memories really are important, and I'm glad that that is something of a recurring theme this season.
I always remember Donna.

Lilwink9632 I know it’s wrong, but I really enjoyed Destiny of the Daleks! The Movellans, silver-dreadlocked disco-bunny androids, could be defeated by anti-logic, like the androids in Star Trek story I, Mudd. And they were almost as camp as the Metron in Duel.

13:50 Bill was referencing how the office had him listed as being there for 70 years (likely on-staff/payroll, in whatever capacity). The 50 year reference was the "rumor" -- but he's been there longer (70, and likely more).
I adore Bill as a companion. She is strong, independent, and yet She still has that fanlike wonder of the Doctor I so missed with the last two. Clara was so much a partner in crime and equal, and Amy got very familiar and almost condescending. "He doesn't actually know what he's doing". I hope this doesn't sound reductive, because they were great, but I love the companion as our eyes into a fantastical world. I want Jack's "Oh I've missed this", or even Rory's Dad's encouraging them to go with this amazing man and 'Save every world you can". With Bill, I feel that again.
Loved how Bill was genre-savvy as well. Like here where she knew a mind-wipe when she saw it.

Heaven Sent was better than Love and Monsters yet Love and Monsters had more views than Heaven Sent, Peter Capaldi is regarded as one of the best doctors yet has fewer views than Jodie Whitaker, Patrick Troughton had a better era than William Hartnell, yet William Hartnell got more views, so why don't you shut up and get out of this fandom.

The sonic screwdriver was introduced with the second doctor, but it wasn't used often. He literally used it to screw a screw by pointing at it, as an example of futuristic technology.
The teacher-student dynamic between 12 and Bill is my personal favourite out of all the companion relationships we've had.
It's so wholesome and platonic. 💕

I am hoping the crew would finish the Sarah Jane Adventures too because it got better the second season. It was like the early seasons of Doctor Who.
And with the Vault we come to one of the best Moffat arcs in his run. Oh, the tears.

I always comment with this episode that I like the lighting in the scenes of the Doctor's study. So that's my comment. Great lighting. This series is one of my favourites, you're going to love it.
Series 10 is one of doctor who's best series of all time
The 2nd Doctor used a sonic screwdriver in Fury from the Deep, literally to undo screws. But the 3rd Doctor was the first to make fairly regular use of it.

One of the best series. My second favourite group. Moffat started and ended his era with the 2 best series and 2 best TARDIS team.

In regards to the chips vs fries thing. As a Brit I would use chips or fries to describe the french fries you'd get at McDonald's but I would never call the chips from a fish and chip shop "fries" - just isn't right. They're too thick to be fries. French fries are long and thin as far as I'm concerned.
As for wedges, they're often oven baked rather than fried so I'd never really call them fries. They're wedges. Also they are usually cut into segments like an orange to get that distinct wedge shape with the rounded edge.
You guys should make proper English Fish and Chips on Cooking with Blind Wave!
Clearly when you need some chips you need to just head on down to your local "Just Chips".
@Doctor Tophat I think they just do it once in a blue moon, they are always pretty busy with reaction content so I consider it a fun treat whenever they make one.
IIRC 'chips' was used in America in the same way that the British did prior to the invention of crisps. The US had moved on to using 'fries' as the proper term but the British hadn't, so to avoid confusion with the new "chips" the word crisp was coined instead.
From what I just looked up on Google as "fish and chips," "chips" are comparable to whole cut fries, like Wendy's fries, as opposed to the shoe string fries of McDonald's, or steak fries, which is probably self explanatory.

The way he enunciates "TARDIS" is just one example of why Capaldi is the greatest modern Doctor. I really don't see a better actor coming through.

The 2nd Doctor was actually the first one to have a Sonic
Yes, it was introduced in _Fury From the Deep,_ where the 2nd Doctor used it to unscrew a screw without touching it. The script required a screwdriver and they decided a futuristic gadget would be better. The sonic screwdriver at that time was basically just a metal rod with no distinguishing features.
The one Aaron picks up around 19:07 belonged to the 3rd Doctor, contrary to what he said.
I think the one used by Nardole belonged to the 4th Doctor. The later classic ones all look very similar. so it's hard to be sure. The sonic was destroyed early in the 5th Doctor era, and didn't return until TV Movie (7th/8th Doctor) where it had basically the same design. Sylvester McCoy supposedly held it the wrong way around for his scenes at the start of the movie, having never used it before.
The second doctors sonic screwdriver was an eveready pen light, the exact model is very rare now.
Bill is such a great companion. She's one of my favorites. She's a great companion with 12.

Friend of mine is an extra in this one appearing several times in the same scene cos the effects people basically copy/pasted some of the extras to fill up the class some more. :D

I think the lecture theatre scene had quite a few Doctor Who related TH-camrs and fans in the audience.

RE: The contact lenses, on Good Omens, David Tennant wears snake eye lenses, and they had to use cgi to keep them properly oriented.
Strictly speaking chips and fries aren't 100% the same thing. Traditional British "chips" are thick, more like potato wedges than skinny McDonalds fries, and "fries", or even sometimes "frites" is sometimes used to describe the skinny alternative. It's honestly not particularly consistent, but generally "chips" refers to the thicker things we see Bill frying up in this episode.
Yeah, like the ones you get from McDonalds many would still call fries, but chips is used most of the time.
Nice. In my home country, Sweden, we call the thick ones frites, and the thin ones strips. And we call crisps for chips :)
This season is not perfect but I really like it

Both of Heather’s eyes are actually like that but more circular, I imagine they removed the right and augmented the left in post
Somethings just occurred to me, that if the doctors been at the uni for over 70 years then he’s had to sit through all of the stuff that he’s already dealt with (e.g. dinosaurs in London, planets in the sky, daleks vs cyber men)
Such a random detail for me to get hung up on, esp on such an old video, but talking about the contact having to be rotated correctly in each shot: If they had to manually rotate it the correct direction, it would shift with every blink. It'd be impossible. However, they make bifocal contacts, which also have to stay rotated the correct way. Contacts can be made to be slightly weighted to keep them oriented correctly, so bifocals remain lined up properly. Same thing was likely done with the star-shaped heterochromia contact.
Nardole season fuck yeah!
Nardole's essentially the equivalent of K-9, fills that role

@@notbubu Demons of Punjab. And Rosa was also really damn good. They felt like big budget versions of old who.
BBC lost complete faith in Doctor Who and let the show runner do too many things that deviated too much from the formula. The cast and their dynamics, especially Jodie, were excellent. But it lost the feel. Rosa, Demons and Kablaam were good solid episodes, but the overall direction was askew.
Sonic screwdriver started with the 2nd Doctor.
one more season and these guys will get the shock of there life can't wait. I liked this season with Bill it was a fun season with her.

I loved Bill, one of my favourite NuWho companions, even if Peal Mackie's acting sometimes left a lot to be desired, if I'm honest.
I loved Bill too, and I can't really fault Pearl Mackie either. I thought she was great.
Bill Potts is my fave companion.

Personally, I think Bill takes until Thin Ice to really become anything special for me, but from then on she's unquestionably my favorite companion of the revived series. Same with Series 10 itself, actually.
There was actually a deleted scene that was an extension of the montage, where the Doctor was actually playing Clara's theme at the bar when Bill and Heather met, kind of implying that Clara's Song waas a love song.

For the memory wipe, not sure why the writer chose to link Clara when the obvious choice for remembering someone the doctor had mind wiped.....was Donna.
I see what you mean, but Bill's reference was to the Doctor having his memory wiped. I read the scene like this -
Bill: "Imagine what you'd feel like if it happened to you"
Doctor, to himself: "I know _exactly_ how I'd feel" (cue Clara theme)

plus it was much more recent and connected to this specific version of the doctor. The person watching this episode are more likely to know about clara than Donna since most new viewers tend to jump in at the start of a new doctor since it often acts as a soft reset.

If you're a fan of Naruto then see if you can find a way to watch "Round Planet". It's a BBC mocumentary using old BBC footage of planet Earth documentaries nature documentaries and such however with the nardol actor just saying amazing things in the voiceover.
Although it is difficult to find it used to be on Netflix but now the BBC has kind of taken it off of the internet altogether it seems but they're still the website on the BBC and Google TV has available for future purchase but not for current like you can't purchase it yet but it's supposed to be coming to the Google TV market.
The Movellans from Classic Who (who the Daleks were fighting) not seen since 1978.
10:19 - Yesssss...I've wondered why they weren't used in New Who to this point, and this was only a cameo. Considering the amount of Dalek storylines, you'd think a few of them would include Movellans.
The Second Doctor was the first one to have a sonic screwdriver.
Overall slow start to the season, but it's normal with a new companion and always gotta enjoy those first moments and take the time for discovery.
Then, yeah, it picks up at the end for sure.

I feel I may have read to much into a line because no one else talks about it.
The Doctor near the end says “Tardis” means “What the Hell” which considering Bill mentioned that TARDIS as an anagram wouldn’t make sense in any other language, I took to mean “TARDIS” is the Gallifreyian equivalent of “WTH” which is silly but I could honestly see.
@@outcastkatsuki He specifically said "Tardis" "it means" and "What the Hell" in that order, it could easily have had a double meaning.. Escpecially since she asked why it was named in english.
