I had like two tics for a long time but I don’t know they were tics until like a month or two ago when they got worse now I have many more tics including: Saying bam Saying haha Blowing Hiccup noise And one of my favourites -> saying snizzle
I am destroying my teeth and face. I sound and look horrible. As i get older it gets worse. Im 41 and im really worried. My teeth feel like im destroying them. My family say things to me all the time about my facial habits and hear my sounds even over the phone. Ive tried to hold it back recently and it honestly feels like im holding my breath. I need help so bad. It's depressing. It's in my face, mouth, voice, i dislocate my shoulder and it pops back into place. I bob my head. It does it worse when im hyped up or worried. People at work think im mad or making faces at them. My face gets so tired it sucks. Some tics have came and went since childhood. I need a teeth guard.
Hey, I don't know if I have tourettes but it is a common diagnosis to my condition according to the web. But unconciously I quietly whine or whimper. I don't know I'm doing it until someone points it out. It's not serious and only really happens when it's quiet or I'm by myself. I don't twitch or express it any other way than the sound. Would you say that the diagnosis is correct? If not do you know what it could be?
Ugh I have tics. Usually when I’m alone not doing anything. Sometimes people have noticed but it’s usually worse when I’m not doing anything and just relaxing
Yeah me too. It’s 10x as bad when I’m alone. One time my little brother was looking at me while I thought I was alone, and I was so embarrassed. It’s definitely because we’re not insecure about it when we’re by ourselves so we let our brain/body do whatever it wants to do without trying to hold it back
Same I have motor ticks and grunts and I shake uncontrollably sometimes, mostly when I’m alone but with family who understands, it’s like i still do it.
If I may ask, have you ever felt like it's better or worse for you that they're worse when you're alone instead of with other people? My tics generally flare up based on my general mood at that time regardless of company. It's usually when I'm feeling some amount of stress or anxiety about or during work and school, and I sometimes wish they happened more when I was in situations that don't demand so much of my attention, makes it harder to focus on redirecting them when I'm engaged with something important. If they happened more during my down time, it might have been easier for me to focus on management techniques.
I have been having tics for almost 20 years (started around 6-7 and now I'm 26). They never went away and kept getting worse in the last years, making it really stressful, both physically and emotionally. They happen a lot when I'm alone, while I manage to contain them almost completely in public. Eyes, nose, jaw, neck, arms, back, vocal tics, often combined together. Plus they go a bit OCD mode sometimes when they mix with misophonia, so it's like, if a repetitive sound doesn't stop, I just keep doing the tic. And of course they feed off stress and anxiety, but even when I'm relaxed I always have something going on.
I'm 32 and the tics just keep getting worse as life gets harder and got it at the same age. I hide it very well too, similar symptoms cept I also get the hands involved. Do you drive? I started driving again after 5 yrs. It doesn't impair my driving and I'll stop if it does but in traffic the tics are a bit much and parking lots are especially bad (and couples with pretty severe road rage which is why I don't drive). As we seem to have similar symptoms just wondering on your thoughts on driving and if you also rage. Thanks
@@Nick-ce6lt I also get the hands involved sometimes, it depends, I don't really know how they work. I think it has to do with what I'm doing and the level of stress/anxiety. Yep, I've been driving for 7 years and I usually have at least a little tic like eye blinking/brows moving or maybe I start tapping on the wheel with my fingers (again, in a kind of OCD mode) or with my foot on the pedals, but it doesn't affect my driving. Probably because I'm in an almost public situation (people can still see me), plus I always try to be focused in order to avoid accidents of all sorts. That brings me to the rage, which I have, repressed rage that I bottle in over time and gets released when I drive, because people drive crazy and apparently bad driving somehow triggers it 😅 but I wouldn't say it's severe, I always try to breathe and relax, since most of the time the bad driver doesn't even notice, so no actual point in bursting out too much 😄
Mine mainly happen when I’m at school or someone’s looking at me and sometimes I get bullied or someone tells me I did it but shout it out load so every body hears and it’s realy embarrassing
@@xboxgaming1776 when I was 18 I played soccer with guys a few years older than me and a few of them apparently felt the urge to tell me each and every time that I had this tic which involved my jaw (to them it was funny because people who do drugs sometimes do this kind of jaw movement). The important thing is for you to understand that it is not your fault, even if they tell you so, and try to seek help from some professional, if this makes it difficult for you to interact with other people. But it's really nothing to be ashamed of
True true true very true, it starts to get more intense in a stressful moment, my situation that makes my tics to the peak is preparing for an upcoming presentation, it even lasts long for 5-6 months or more even after i finished presenting, it’s still torturing me til this day even in a relax moment. Why it’s torturing me? Because after I do that tics many times, it makes me nauseous and sense of vomiting or sleepy and less focusing on doing work, it’s so sad, why I have to have this freaking disease
Hey I have Tourette Syndrome. You're description of the urge is good, but only half the picture. It also feels like you are holding your breath too. You can't hold you're breath forever. That's why tics so important for us to do right.
Thanks for sharing. I'm curious, a lot of times when the "tics has to be done right" there is something else happening. Possibly tourettic OCD? You may take a look at that video as well.
@@Nick-ce6lt He’s not telling you to slow it down when you’re in the middle of a compulsion. He’s telling you to basically induce a tic when you’re NOT already experiencing one, and force the same movement that you’d be doing.
I just watched this video with my 9 year old boy who has ticks and he said "wow, this guy really understands what I feel like". Just so you know, coming from him, this is a huge compliment ;) . Thank you for this video. It has ignited our fight and his willingness to see this through.
Its weird. I had tics from about age 12 to 14 and after practicing every, well, every second for 2 years, I got them to stop completely. Now a month ago I saw a video of tics, and instantly felt the urge to do some of my old and some new tics. Thankfully I resisted all of them except for one. Now I have to deal with it again... So my advice: Try to pay attention to it, but also try to not look at it as a problem, as that will put more stress on you. And when you notice you dont do them anymore, try to avoid thinking about the existence of this horrible condition.
@@padalox2518 Its not really anything extra, its like holding my breath. I still feel it, but I would just pay more and more attention. Its about will power. I trained hard to make my will power stronger by fasting or changing my diet to a healthier one. I also did some less healthy stuff like trying to stay awake to have more control over my brain, I made it to 4 days or about 100 hours with no sleep at all, well, some micro-sleeps but those are inevitable after 2 days. But I think this disorder is different for everyone and you just might need to find your own way to supress it, but for me the feeling is still there, I just "don't breathe" lol
I only realised I had Tourettes well into adulthood, and it definitely got worse after that. I can think back in retrospective and realise that these things I did my whole life were tics, and I never knew, but they were definitely not as common as it is today.
OK, I have had tics all over my body for my 45 years on this planet. You are the first person I have ever heard explain it all so well. It is hard work to "undo" a tic. But I will try your method and see if I can stop my most intrusive ones. I like that you didn't recommend medication. Instead, you're chosing cognitive therapy. It's hard work. Thank you!
I have never left a comment in any video before but I am very thankful I ran into this one. For over a year, I have had a tic that was getting out of hand. This video significantly reduced my tics in an instance and was such a lifesaver. Thank you for this very helpful content.
Really appreciate all these comments! I’ve had a twitch (possibly Tourette’s but I haven’t been officially diagnosed) since I was little, probably close to 20 years now give it take and it’s been really hard. I get worried about who’s watching me do it and get embarrassed, I try to avoid certain ticks but something else always pops up. Someone who doesn’t have a tick or Tourette’s really doesn’t get it. I really like this video cause I think the mindfulness is a HUGE part of this. I feel like if the general population just didn’t ask questions or stare, my ticks would be minimized….. I was able to graduate college and have plenty of success regardless but if you’re reading this and you are struggling with the ticks just know that you aren’t: weird, mental, unable to perform, etc… you have just as much capability as anyone else. It’s just a response to urge problem but it doesn’t make you less YOU! Love you all bunches and love that people are opening up here cause it’s definitely not easy having ticks. Preciate this video also, I’m going to try some of these things even tho I know it’s gonna be hard:)
I have had therapy for my tics about 2 years ago. Almost everything mentioned in this video was part of this therapy. Another big part was handling anxiety that comes along with having tics. Just like mentioned at the end of the video. Although my tics are not completely gone ( i don't think they ever will), it did really help me in managing them. Thanks for this video. I watch it sometimes Just as a reminder/summary of what i have learned during the therapy.
How you are feeling now ? Iam 17 yrs old and i have tics disorder from 8 Im not able to control my tics my parents always scold and beaten me for tics and teh plot twist is that only i know that this is disorder not habits but my family believe that i have habits and when ever i talk about that disorder they always beaten me for this My studies are affected Please suggest me how should i talk about this in to parentd😢
I had this therapy in a hospitalized setting when I was 13. A lot of the other patients there at the time had severe OCD. I'm guessing the compulsions in OCD are very similar to the ones in tics. My tourettes was so severe that I could hardly stand up or even hold things. I am now 28 and after years of using these "competing responses" the time it takes for the urge to tic to subside has decreased significantly to the point where I can mostly just brush it off mentally. I think my longest streak without ticcing might have been a year, and if it does happen it's spaced months apart. I hope you enjoy the feeling of control it gives you over your life. I definitely did.
@@ajaychimnani7985I'm so sorry to hear this. Remember you are great and you are loved SO much by God just as you are. Try to talk to some adult you trust about this, maybe a family member or maybe a teacher, etc. I'll be praying for you.
@ajaychimnani7985 I'm so sorry you're going thru this. My son developed tics as a pre-teen. I didn't know what it was at first so i assumed he just wanted to be annoying or difficult. Find some written material to give your parents. or go online & find something like thiw video showing them the symptoms. Unfortunately you have to educate them on this issue. Good luck. ♡
Hi this video may be a year old but I am so glad I found this. When I was a kid (7 or 8) my parents noticed I had tics but at the time didnt knew what they were. Since work has caused so many problems as I was nearly fired for something I usually do but they didn’t know, the 8 weeks of suspension caused tics to start reappearing. And after awhile I now have to face them every day. I am a support worker and my tics can swear so I took a week off and tested my limits and what situations caused them to happen. I pretty much did most of what you’ve said and still do a few of them to reduce my tics. If I know I’m going to say something that will consist of swearing I force myself to make a humming noise. It’s not a song or anything just letting my tic come out but not saying the words. It works fairly well and it definitely works at work. At first I thought I was putting it on as sometimes I imitate things I see or repeat an action but it’s short term or only happens once. This has been going on since 9 months ago so I know it’s not my body just reenacting as they’ve changed and I’ve adapted. For me the small tics feel like light touching. So a bit tingly but that bad enough for a complex tic. However the biggest tics happen when my SPD (sensory processing disorder) reacts with heat as I really struggle with heat. It feels like sharp needles (lots of them) stabbing into my head. It causes me to swear, hit my head fairly hard and causes me to bend forward at a 90 degree angle all in one motion. It’s something I cannot stop it at the moment but in the future I hope it will be something I can get control of. You’re a legend if you read all of what I’ve wrote as I tend to say too much. Your videos on tics and anxiety has helped a great deal.
When I get eye tics, it usually happens when I am distracted (e.g playing games with friends, focusing in class etc). The urge feels so weird but I'm trying to stop it, your video helped me find a starting point on controlling my tics! :D
It becomes so painful!! I thought mine was caused by coffee but now it's happening as soon as I wake up in the mornings. Idk what to do 😞 I can't afford a doctor
I have tourettes and I have a tic that goes 24/7 and it makes it hard to breathe and a struggle with a decent amount of things, but this video really helped me now I don't do it as much!
I stopped tics before for almost 2 years because i was busy at school, then imagine the older you are the busier you are so dont get too stressed about it, because sooner or later everyone will be busy in their life.
This helped a lot I have vocal tics a little I keep clearing my throat occasionally not a lot but it’s like the c c c c sound but more dragged out and I have the tics where as I blink a lot I never thought about paying attention to how I feel before it I know now that when I want to do it but count 5 seconds like you said before the blinking I get this heavy feeling on the right side of my head like I need to blink so it could go away it’s hard talking about this with people because they wouldn’t understand coming here helps me to know and feel I am not alone and it’s not that bad could be way worst
You know what's crazy? I used to have this neck tic when I was maybe like 4 or 5, but it eventually went away completely, BUT THEN like 2/2.5 years ago, when I was 23 years old, IT CAME BACK (probably due to drug abuse, poor sleep, other life stressors). I haven't been able to shake it (although I literally do all the time lol) since it came back and sometimes it's chill while other times it gets bad enough to where I feel like I'm giving myself whiplash, getting a headache afterwards. I still tic, though I'm better at not letting myself go too crazy to the point of getting headaches. Since I've been more mental/physical health conscious overall, I hope that I can eventually overcome this once again cuz it's not only embarrassing but just straight-up uncomfortable.
Something that helped me a long time ago for facial tics was acupuncture. That fixed my last tic. For years. They put pins on my face like whiskers. My wife was diagnosed with Cancer many months ago and my Tic came back. I'm now trying to get rid of it again. I'm 55.
The neck move he does at 4:53 is something I do all the time. People really notice that one because I look very paranoid looking around from side to side and for me to have it done “right” all my tics need to cancel out so if I look to the left I need to look to the right too, or I need to do my tic to some kind of rhythmic tune like a nursery rhyme or something. The neck one is a long one to get right and cancel out so it can be pretty noticeable. I’m actually here because someone was taking a video of something and I noticed myself in the background doing the tic and I saw how weird and noticeable it looked.
You are amazing!!! I was using a stop it technique and wasn't making a lot of progress, I am going to try and help get your videos out there, you might have saved me a trip to the mental hospital, keep doin' what you're doin' 💜💜💜
The worst one I ever had was with breathing. Hard to explain but I felt very strong urges to breathe in really hard and then let it out in a series of short exhales with my throat clenched. It hurt so bad and I cried and had panic attacks for weeks because I couldn’t figure out how to make it stop. I went to therapy and the emergency room but everyone looked at me like I was a freak. It’s such a horrible feeling to experience, people staring at you and asking you what’s wrong, wanting to avoid you because you “can’t control yourself”.
Same but what I experience is more of tiny rapid inhales and exhaled. I definitely feel crazy q bit when I have a moment where it’s really bad. Like all the tendons in my neck are pulling really hard
@@Sammy_the_nanai use to have a similar tic to this. I would do multiple shallow rapid inhales and then exhale normally. I had this tic for about 4 years from 2019-2022 it seemed to randomly start. I no longer experience the tic I’ve seemed to grown out of it (I’m 23 y/o) but now it’s been replaced with a ‘ear rumbling’ tic where i continuously tense the inside of me ear, it’s pretty much unnoticeable to everyone else however it’s very annoying for myself and can even give me headaches / earaches if i do it too much.
I have an eye twitch tic that started back in college. I kinda developed a competing response which is to slowly blink. But now that i'm older, i think i have a tic when driving where i feel the need to close my eyes for a couple of seconds (which is super dangerous!!). Still trying to figure out the best competing response for this. Hope you can give me an advice ☹️
I've never had a tic or anything of that sort my girlfriend just started to tic and im here trying to learn more about and everyone in the comment is talking about how they tic and its nice to know she isnt alone
I have twitches all over my body but the main worrying one is this one in my stomach (like my actual stomach!!) where I just push sort of outwards (it’s hard to explain) and it’s worrying because it feels like if I push for too long my stomach will explode but it’s so hard to stop.
Same I have tics all over my body and the worst one is with my stomach(the organ). I would push my stomach inwards with muscles and I would not stop if my stomach isn’t burning. Hopefully we can get better
I have tourettes/tics for over 55 years. I am just starting to look for a solution. Mine happens when I get nervous, had too much caffiene, sick, anxious or stressed. The thing is tics from tourettes bappens internally even when one is sleeping. I even thought about medication for it. Then I thought as I got older it would lessen, but it has not. It takes a lot of work to stop or reduce it even now. Some days are wprst than others, Sometimes months will go by with no tics, then it comes back.
I’ve had Tourette’s for my whole life physical and little verbal noises in the past few months I’ve been suffering from a horrible tic where I aggressively bang my head forwards 10s of times a minute I used to not mind my Tourette’s and accept them as apart of me but recently It’s really been affecting me physically and mentally I’ve had a headache in the back of my head for about a month now. I’m honestly worried I’m going to get brain damage
My tics never happen at school, but when I'm home and by myself, and add bored onto that, I'm constantly giving the "sup" nod to the laptop screen. My neck is so tight ! Edit: It's been a couple minutes after watching , and CBIT has calmed my tic already. I don't know how to thank you enough. I never knew about competing response, the brain is so interesting. Thank you so much
I have interesting case, I can control my tics, my record is 11 days straight, but the problem is, when I control my tics, I feel the pressure in my head and this pressure goes to depression and apathy, so after I control it, anyway I need to make tics that I stopped
I think I know why it occurs. When you tic you release a little dopamine hit in your brain and we have become dependent on that for years and years. When you don't tic your brain is confused as it is used to the chemical release and that will build up over days and cause depression. I'm gonna be moving to a farm for a bit and hoping a completely new environment may be enough constant dopamine release over a month to alter my behavior so it's not as frequent.
Nick thank you for your reply, but how I understand, it works reversed, when I feel emotions I want to do more tics. One of the theory of tics is that some of areas of brain are super sensitive to dopamine, so this areas are hyperactive and that’s why I do tics. I did encephalogram and it showed that some areas is hyperactive, so now I use drugs (this is not shit like holoperedole and stuff) to calm this areas, but maybe you are right, who knows :)
@@Maksym-c1w yeah that's the mainstream opinion and the reverse of my explanation and I can't say it any more bluntly but it's wrong and it's why there will never be progress in many areas of mental health until the discipline of psychology rethinks the chicken and egg causality situation regarding brain makeup and behavior. I wish you the best of luck sry I'm a little too passionate about this.
@UCoGq5yoWJF4_67lZ4VCLMqg although I strongly believe the problem stems from the need for the chemicals that come from the tics, I have no clue how to fix it. I can't speak for everyone but like the guy said in the video, a holiday with a new environment does reduce the frequency of tics during that time, I found. I would bet that that is because of all the new stimuli satisfying any chemical imbalance anyone has as a result of everyday behavior, whether it's tics or staring at a computer in a cubical. Also historically people have changed environments and moved city or even country when they were "in a rut" and that has helped a lot of people overcome challenges in their lives. tbh the tics haven't been a giant impact on my life and I've worked with a lot of disabled people so I count myself lucky. It's getting worse now so if a change of scenery helps that would be great but if it doesn't then at least I tried.
@@Maksym-c1w yeah new environment didn't work. Been working on a farm for 2 weeks and still as bad as ever. All g, lived with it forever, at least not surrounded judgy Sydney-siders.
I believe I have vocal tics , now it’s getting more intense I feel like , I feel like I got vocal tics due to drugs I’m now 3 years clean but ever since I stopped I started like throat clearing a lot and getting super anxious and grunting when I try to hold it in holy shit my brain goes crazy so do I it’s frustrating
Very helpful video! Would be very beneficial if you could do a video with a list of competing responses for most tics! And how to alternate them for best results. Thanks!
OCD and Anxiety my son just turned 5. He woke up the other day as normal. Couple hours later he start rocking his head back and making a hum sound and he rolls his eyes when he does it. It’s been 3 days on medication and so far no improvement. That list would be great for me to start somewhere. Thank you for the video I’m desperate. He’s rubbing his neck a lot now and I think it’s because the movement is starting to hurt him.
I have Tourette’s and was diagnosed with it at the age of 3. I am only 10 but I’m worried that it will be haunting me for the rest of my life. My Tourette’s includes clashing my teeth together, making weird noises, ruff sniffing, nose twitching, opening my mouth widely and head banging
I have motor tics and i can't stop popping my shoulder and neck. it started almost 2 years ago and no treatment has helped me. It makes things really hard to do so i can't draw because i have to pop my shoulder every 5 seconds, it's hard to focus because i pop my neck every 5 seconds, and it's embarrasing so i don't make a lot of youtube videos with my face anymore and i always have my camera off during school cause it's too embarrasing. It drives me insane and the thing that sucks is, after a matter of time, it starts to be super painful and i can't stop doing it. sometimes it hurts so much that it makes my stomach hurt. It's impossible.
I really want to say I’ve had tics since I was 6 or 7 (28 now) they would randomly happen and change from simply making a noise quietly to whispering my sentences after speaking, blinking aggressively and slightly banging my head forward. I have many more, some that I’ve replaced with others over time and now I notice that I have many small less noticeable tics. For instance I’m always flexing a muscle repeatedly or cracking my fingers or cracking my elbow joint. I’ve gotten very concerned recently since I’ve become hyper aware to them now. I watched this video 24 hours ago and I am amazed on how much control I have now! I took your advice I realized they intensify when I’m stressed or thinking about something. I press my tongue against the roof of my mouth when I feel an urge and I focus on the pressure my tongue is applying and the urges go away. I’m sure I have anxiety and adhd but I’ve never been diagnosed. Thank you so much for this video in a very short 24 hours I’ve lessened my tics down to less then 10%
Wow, I felt like I was the only one out there with this! Me and brothers have it! It really is tiring and consumes your life! I wish they come out with a cure for this. I e thing helped is to watch yourself in the mirror doing your tic. It embarrasses me and I cut back quite a bit when I remembered what I looked like doing it!
Great Ihave OCD that starved me for half a year every day. Anxiety just makes me do absolutely nothing once we found a hobo spider and I couldn’t do anything and you can find the tics in the replies of the pinned comment
I have a jaw clenching tic and it is making my life miserable. My jaw and teeth are always sore. It's worse when I'm tired, stressed or feeling anxious. I had really bad vocal and motor tics as a child. It's exhausting.
I never had any hope of being able to avoid some of my tics that bother me the most. This video was inspiring, very well explained and empathetic. I will try to apply the treatment. Thanks :)
I have a tic where I roll my eyes. And it bothers me when I sleep. It gets to the point where I just wanna panic and I just cry. I really want to fix it. Btw the roll is like when you roll your eyes to the back of your head. Or looking up and down occasionally, and this happens alot. Plus I'm kind of crying right now.
I used to have that tic. The way I got rid of it was by re-directing the want to ‘stretch my eyes as far as they’d go’ (as I’d put it back then) into a similar, but VERY SLOW movement. I also started doing it, but with my eyes shut - Tourette’s is all about doing the furthest, hardest, fastest, most physically tiring stretch of ANY muscle, so if I squeezed my eyes shut at the same time as I rolled my eyes up, some of the energy went into the squeeze, and I didn’t have to roll my eyes as far, or for as long. It also makes it less obvious to other people. Then, because I’d practiced only doing smaller eye rolls when my eyes were squeezed shut, sometimes it even satisfied the tic to just raise my eyes slightly, or widen them a bit. It’s a very subtle tic (in my opinion). I know that when I shut my eyes and look up, I tip my chin up a bit too, I’m still working on that one. I know tics change all the time but I really think I’ll have this one till the end of my days haha, it’s just all about minimising them. Good luck!
I've had Tourettes since I was about 7 or so. I used to have facial tics, nose wiggling and eye movements but those were embarrassing so eventually I ended up swapping them for stomach flexes which are far less noticeable but they cause me to have headaches almost every day because I don't breathe while I do them and I do them multiple times a day. Both of my brothers have Tourettes as well. It has this far in my life been one of my biggest secrets.
Tbh idk if I even have tics I just always need this urge to make a hmph sound I remember a couple years ago it use to be the need yo twitch my head now it’s a hmph sound
I have eyes twitching to sides and angle and neck tics. But when I was watching this video , I stopped doing that because he said to track urges. I just Thank hima lot.🙏🙏🙏🙏
Isn’t it better for society to be more accepting that some people have tics and that’s ok? I understand if the tic is physically uncomfortable or tiring to the person who has them, but most of the time it seems that trying to extinguish a tic is just enabling ableism.
I’m trying to get better at explaining it to people, instead of being embarrassed. When I was a kid, no one explained to me about tic disorder and kids made fun of me, so I always felt shame like something’s wrong with me. If someone asks why I’m blinking so much, I explain it’s tic disorder/related to Tourette’s. I wish someone had helped me to understand it when I was a child. It hurt being made fun of.
How are you feeling/ emotions when you have a tic (Bored) What sensation are you feeling What thoughts are you having Stand in the mirror and practice doing the tic Start doing it in slow motion Notice small things Write down the tics Rank them based on how intrusive they are We start with the most intrusive Find out when the tic happens most Competing response Create something that will get in the way, make it more inconvenient to do a tic When you notice that urge do something else Eye twitch, look at a specific spot Make a fist, hold that part Don’t think don’t do it Doesn’t have to do with the specific body part Don’t have to do two for two tics Give yourself a reward, goal (5 times a day -for attempting the treatment, not ticking
I had a serious eye movement tic , i was able to control it by causing pain every time i do the tic. For eg if i moved my eyeball once , i would pull my hair and say to myself i will not do it again 3 times and then let go of the hair. I was able to control it i hope y'all will be too
I get a lot of breathing tics along with my turrets and ocd. Both are very annoying, but God is doing it all for a reason. But are shortness of breath tics also known as a tic?
I created a technique for those tiks for me and it seems to be doing better. When that tic comes just say STOP in your head and it will go. Im doing it right now as im typing
I can redirect often like he talks about. There are times though nothing works and this seems to be the tics that come on when I am not worried about anything and these are not stress tics. I have gotten over being embarrassed about my Tourette's and I don't care who see's me tic. I have done a lot of therapy over the years and I learned how to apply cognitive behavioral therapy and I don't get anxiety attacks anymore. I rarely feel anxious. These tics can get bad at times but most of the time they are just annoying or often hardly even noticeable. I have noticed them getting stronger over the last couple of years and I hope it's not a sign of what is to come. I have a great neurologist and I have tried medication but the side effects far outweighed the benefits for me. I hope it never comes to this but I am not ruling out surgery and deep brain stimulation. My doctor has preformed this procedure on others successfully but this I will only consider if this continues to get so bad it interferes with my life. It does at times but there have been times in my life where they go away almost all together for many months. I joined some support groups online and that has helped me cope a lot. Knowing you are not alone makes a big difference. Thanks for the great video by the way!
Having tics can cause a lot of negative situations and feelings. Because with my tic I would act strangely in public .I would run or jump around like a fool . Or I would talk to strangers. Or I would have impulsive tics like I would have put my finger up or I would have tic where I would kick over a bin. People would laugh at me . But as soon as I didnt something that was not socially acceptable . People would enjoy criticising me and cause a drama. And people would even be aggressive to me and hit me. Because people like to act superior to boost their self esteem. It makes them feel better about themselves making a fool out of people. Especially if they lack respect and empathy Thats why I have learned to think before I act . And have a elastic band on my wrist. If I have a intrutive thoughts. Because the brain learns from bad experiences. Taking deep breaths and think before you act. To avoid drama . Remember if people show disrespect they lack respect. People can't help it if they have a brain disorder all they can do is to try and control the symptoms. And If people dont understand and are inconsiderate that's their problem. It's best to keep it polite in public to avoid drama
My son who has autism currently has a tic where he cannot stop saying no. All day and night and sometimes in the middle of the night it's no no no no. We are all exhausted
I have 1 singular tic that appeared a week ago, it makes me unable to take deep breaths. I’ve been to the hospital twice and they have confirmed it’s a tic, now I’m just looking for a way to manage it :(
Thanks man for helping out to control my tics I normally distract myself or don’t think it that much like when I’m around my mates I get distracted and I realise that I ent doing thanks for the help man
Hey Ai have a Tourette syndrome of moving my eyeball to one direction (looking right or left) and I make a weird noise (like a 'Hmm') I found myself lack my confidence due to this, I don't even Notice when this is gonna happen It is too weird when I use to talk with someone else they gonna notice my movements and The sounds I made, even When am playing Video games and while driving this eye movements really affect it. I was looking for the way to stop this. AI found your Video helpful, Hopefully I could stop this from doing.
My goal is to stop these tics and me stopping is thr reward, that would be the best feeling in the world ❤ thank you for this information i have wrote it down and made a start this evening.
Great video it's a real help👍, I have had tics since I was young from 8 years it started off as blinking alot or my fingers and toes had to be constantly moving as they felt out of place this got pointed out by my family when I was young the urge can be very unpleasant as i grew older the tics grew with me as now ill twist every body part, twist and crack my neck to the point where my neck feels like it will snap i make grunting or coffing noises im abit weird as I can have no attacks for a day, week or few months then agian I could have 100 or more in a day anyone who has tics understands it takes a massive toll on your body and mental health
Thank you! I’m having a problem with a neck cracking tic where I do it more than once every second in some parts of the day and just being aware of it and accepting it and etc with the help in the video I think it is starting to work! ( I’ve had the tic for over a year now)
I have a 5 year old son that started a little less than a year ago with some pretty aggressive tics. They have gone from throat clearing, to screams and involuntary movements. I'm going to try some of these with him, because I refuse to put him on medication that will give him something worse than the tics. Any advice or information from anyone is greatly appreciated!
Hi I just noticed my son having this I have no knowledge of Tourette so I turned to TH-cam.. he’s 6 years old and he’s been composing his tummy hurts for a month now and I’m really scared for him. Any information will be greatly appreciated ☹️
It triggers my vocal tics everytime i get stressed or mad. And my mother keeps making fun and tak about my tics, and it just gets it worse.. And she wont understand the pain of it.
and why can we not allowed to just tic? is there something wrong with it? for me it just caused shame and frustration, because it didn't work, it almost hurt but then i was also "failing" on top of it. maybe people should just learn to be more accepting and aware and the affected people should work on accepting themselves, their condition and their limits - and look for accommodation. this makes it look like a behavioural issue and that's so hurtful. tic loud and proud 💚
Yep. That’s part of the treatment. For those who want to stop they do this. For those who don’t, there is no pressure. It’s working on taking an shake or guilt away from it.
Well, you seem to just never blink. Just noticing... Anyhoo. Thank you for this. I have a few tics that are actually driving me nuts. I will implement your suggestions.
I have sudden urges to stretch my neck at any time. If I try and keep my neck still it urges me to move it and go side to side. Please someone tell me what's happening
Do you struggle with a motor or vocal tic? What does it look like?
I had like two tics for a long time but I don’t know they were tics until like a month or two ago when they got worse now I have many more tics including:
Saying bam
Saying haha
Blowing
Hiccup noise
And one of my favourites -> saying snizzle
@@milothemoth poor bb, I have tics too. I have many neck tics. It hurtttttttsss.
I do my tics all day. It's so hard to hold it back. My sister says STOP when she sees it. My face and teeth hurt.
Your not alone.
My girlfriend said I jerk around and twitch my neck bad during sleep in all my stages😭. I had tics since I was a kid. Damn this sucks
i hate how tiring it is, it’s like my nerves are all worn out after an episode, or a long day, that really sucks.
I feel that
I agree…my right eye 👁 lid feels worn out from blinking too much
Yes!! Not only tiring but how they can even become painful at times.
So sorry ! I feel the same way tics can be relentless and painful

Mine get so bad i truly want to die sometimes thank you for helping wuth the video
That brings me to the rage, which I have, repressed rage that I bottle in over time and gets released when I drive, because people drive crazy and apparently bad driving somehow triggers it 😅 but I wouldn't say it's severe, I always try to breathe and relax, since most of the time the bad driver doesn't even notice, so no actual point in bursting out too much 😄
@@LL906 thanks man. Good to hear someone with a similar experiences. Bad drivers am I right? 😅
But it's really nothing to be ashamed of
anyone else get excited when he mentioned your tics
Lmao I do
It’s easier to do this when you are alone in the room. But when you are at work, under pressure it’s reallyy hard to control
Yesss..that’s when mine is the worse
@@BroSisOK123 it’s okay brother we’re here with you same here
Hey I have Tourette Syndrome.
@@ocdandanxiety lol you can't do a tic slowly, you need to do it right or else it's like you are using a feather to scratch and itch. Empathy bro
I have a tic disorder, not Tourette’s but I also feel like I need to do them until I “do them right”
yes this is exactly what it feels like . may god bless you
@@Nick-ce6lt He’s not telling you to slow it down when you’re in the middle of a compulsion. He’s telling you to basically induce a tic when you’re NOT already experiencing one, and force the same movement that you’d be doing.

I move my face head stomach and basically my whole body
Mine is in my neck, I always seem to randomly look up
I blink my right eye also and I see people laugh if they see me doing it
@Zen Billion OMGGG bruh i have the same thing
woah. this actually helped me. it stopped me from doing my tics for 5-10 seconds. its actually relaxing idk why. thanks so much!
And when you notice you dont do them anymore, try to avoid thinking about the existence of this horrible condition.
how did you practice?
@@akurvaanyadat its really hard.
@@gone66116 Yes my tics are kind of coming back now due to stress
I only realised I had Tourettes well into adulthood, and it definitely got worse after that. I can think back in retrospective and realise that these things I did my whole life were tics, and I never knew, but they were definitely not as common as it is today.
OK, I have had tics all over my body for my 45 years on this planet. You are the first person I have ever heard explain it all so well. It is hard work to "undo" a tic. But I will try your method and see if I can stop my most intrusive ones. I like that you didn't recommend medication. Instead, you're chosing cognitive therapy. It's hard work. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing! I hope you can feel better my friend!
@Leo no. Its even worse
@Leo i tried. When i am high i have much more tics than sober
Hi brother. Have you tried going to a chiropractor? My son has tics I'm about to take him.
There is also a mouth piece a slit you put in the mouth. Some people say it reduces by 60 or even 100 percent.
I have never left a comment in any video before but I am very thankful I ran into this one. For over a year, I have had a tic that was getting out of hand. This video significantly reduced my tics in an instance and was such a lifesaver. Thank you for this very helpful content.
That is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing. I’m glad you’re feeling better!
Wait what exactly did you do? Can you sum up what you did
Really appreciate all these comments!
Iam 17 yrs old and i have tics disorder from 8
Im not able to control my tics my parents always scold and beaten me for tics and teh plot twist is that only i know that this is disorder not habits but my family believe that i have habits and when ever i talk about that disorder they always beaten me for this
My studies are affected
Please suggest me how should i talk about this in to parentd😢
@dubelow YES YES YES

I have tourettes and I have a tic that goes 24/7 and it makes it hard to breathe and a struggle with a decent amount of things, but this video really helped me now I don't do it as much!
When I was a baby, I started doing a tic. I flex all my muscles,
Lift my arms up, and flap my hands and just.....stop breathing
I stopped tics before for almost 2 years because i was busy at school, then imagine the older you are the busier you are so dont get too stressed about it, because sooner or later everyone will be busy in their life.
Yeah that’s not how it works

Like all the tendons in my neck are pulling really hard
this happens to me as well oh my god i feel so seen. has it got better over the years?
@@Sammy_the_nanai use to have a similar tic to this. I would do multiple shallow rapid inhales and then exhale normally. I had this tic for about 4 years from 2019-2022 it seemed to randomly start. I no longer experience the tic I’ve seemed to grown out of it (I’m 23 y/o) but now it’s been replaced with a ‘ear rumbling’ tic where i continuously tense the inside of me ear, it’s pretty much unnoticeable to everyone else however it’s very annoying for myself and can even give me headaches / earaches if i do it too much.
I don’t normally comment on videos but i just want to say thank you this helped alot
I have an eye twitch tic that started back in college. I kinda developed a competing response which is to slowly blink. Hey you think we would be ripped after so long lol.
I’m honestly worried I’m going to get brain damage
im so sorry to hear that trust with God and Jesús to heal you 🙏
Thank you so much! You don't know how much this helped! My tics were getting so bad it was leaving bruises on my and almost made my blind
Thank you so much
Same
same it feels like im about to sneeze
Thanks!
Great idea. I’ll work on it!
@@ocdandanxiety I have a eye blinking and I roll my eyes alot ever since I could remember
You can live a long, happy and healthy life with Tourette's. There is help out there.
I’m struggling with a very difficult tic where my stomach twitches constantly
Mine too
It so painful

Thank you so much for this video in a very short 24 hours I’ve lessened my tics down to less then 10%
I first found out I had it when I was 8, because of family genetics, so now I’m 12 and it’s still sometimes hard to control
Hoping these methods help me out tomorrow! It’s been affecting me in my workspace and I can’t wait to test this out!
I feel like my eye lid is dropping it’s appearing my life
Great Ihave OCD that starved me for half a year every day.
Thanks :)
My tic that I do most often is one we’re my neck twist and I clench up my throat
Do you feel eye pain when you do this ? For how long have you been doing this ?
Good luck!

Thank you! My daughter has been ticing for 4 days now. I’m going to try some of your suggestions. I’m praying it works.
Best of luck!
I have terrible facial tics that cause muscle strain and pain. I never knew there was an actual term for behavioral therapy for this!
Very good tips and presentation.
I'm so sorry!!!
How are you feeling/ emotions when you have a tic (Bored)
What sensation are you feeling
What thoughts are you having
Stand in the mirror and practice doing the tic
Start doing it in slow motion
Notice small things
Write down the tics
Rank them based on how intrusive they are
We start with the most intrusive
Find out when the tic happens most
Competing response
Create something that will get in the way, make it more inconvenient to do a tic
When you notice that urge do something else
Eye twitch, look at a specific spot
Make a fist, hold that part
Don’t think don’t do it
Doesn’t have to do with the specific body part
Don’t have to do two for two tics
Give yourself a reward, goal (5 times a day
-for attempting the treatment, not ticking
Thank you for doing this 🙏
One of my vocal tics are soo annoying. It makes me tire to the point of i can barely walk and my EARS HURT SOO BAD
Thank you so much for this. It gave me hope.
I found this very helpful thank you 😊 🙏 mine come around once or twice a year, then can vanish as quick as they came.
I had a serious eye movement tic , i was able to control it by causing pain every time i do the tic. For eg if i moved my eyeball once , i would pull my hair and say to myself i will not do it again 3 times and then let go of the hair. I was able to control it i hope y'all will be too
I have to admit this therapy works thank you sir!!!
Amazing! I'm glad it works for you!
Thank you for making this!
Im doing it everywhere. Like 1000 times a day
I get a lot of breathing tics along with my turrets and ocd. Both are very annoying, but God is doing it all for a reason. But are shortness of breath tics also known as a tic?
Yes. I have a tic where I breath really fast and shallow but only when I’m driving. It’s a combination of tics and anxiety.
I have. Nervous tics I keep shaking my head and stretching my foot only when I’m nervous
It's all day everyday for me. On my left side. My body is a prison of pain and embarrassment. I am at my wits end!!!!
I created a technique for those tiks for me and it seems to be doing better. When that tic comes just say STOP in your head and it will go. Im doing it right now as im typing
Yup. I find myself shouting "Stop twitching!" But it always makes it worst. Maybe this guy's method is better. We'll see. Peace!
Oooft this seems like an easy wait to create a compulsion or other tic in myself.
Thank you for this info. Just your voice seems to help. I'm holding my finger on my Nose and it's helping at the moment. Thank you
Would love to see a video on echolalia. It makes watching tv very stressful.
This is a great video. Great new info and advice!!
thank you so much, will be trying this from now on ♡
I can redirect often like he talks about.
I wonder if my tourette's is the cause of my drinking. Maybe the root cause is anxiety.
Thank you so much for this valuable information mate. Absolutely loved this video:)
My son who has autism currently has a tic where he cannot stop saying no. All day and night and sometimes in the middle of the night it's no no no no. We are all exhausted
This is a really good video on awareness of the urge.
I have 1 singular tic that appeared a week ago, it makes me unable to take deep breaths. I’ve been to the hospital twice and they have confirmed it’s a tic, now I’m just looking for a way to manage it :(
thank you this was very calming to watch.
Great video it's a real help👍, I have had tics since I was young from 8 years it started off as blinking alot or my fingers and toes had to be constantly moving as they felt out of place this got pointed out by my family when I was young the urge can be very unpleasant as i grew older the tics grew with me as now ill twist every body part, twist and crack my neck to the point where my neck feels like it will snap i make grunting or coffing noises im abit weird as I can have no attacks for a day, week or few months then agian I could have 100 or more in a day anyone who has tics understands it takes a massive toll on your body and mental health
tics are really distracting when gaming and every time im on a clutch moment my tics kicks in
I get mine when I'm super nervous. Happens sometimes when I'm alone but it usually happens at school because I've super nervous and anxious there
Thank you! I’m having a problem with a neck cracking tic where I do it more than once every second in some parts of the day and just being aware of it and accepting it and etc with the help in the video I think it is starting to work! ( I’ve had the tic for over a year now)
omg same my neck sounds bone cracking
I have a 5 year old son that started a little less than a year ago with some pretty aggressive tics. They have gone from throat clearing, to screams and involuntary movements. I'm going to try some of these with him, because I refuse to put him on medication that will give him something worse than the tics. Any advice or information from anyone is greatly appreciated!
Magnesium helps
Hi I just noticed my son having this I have no knowledge of Tourette so I turned to TH-cam.. he’s 6 years old and he’s been composing his tummy hurts for a month now and I’m really scared for him. Any information will be greatly appreciated ☹️
How is he now!?
Thank you Nathan, this is very helpful.
My son is very thankful he used to always tic as a 10 year old its hard for him
It triggers my vocal tics everytime i get stressed or mad. And my mother keeps making fun and tak about my tics, and it just gets it worse.. And she wont understand the pain of it.
I've learned to deal with it. I twitch when I want to. 💪
and why can we not allowed to just tic? is there something wrong with it? for me it just caused shame and frustration, because it didn't work, it almost hurt but then i was also "failing" on top of it. maybe people should just learn to be more accepting and aware and the affected people should work on accepting themselves, their condition and their limits - and look for accommodation. this makes it look like a behavioural issue and that's so hurtful. tic loud and proud 💚
