When Ryan Stevens was just 15, his life changed forever. He developed tics, began having seizures known as 'tic attacks' and at the age of 21, was diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome. Ryan is now considered to have one of the most severe cases in the UK. He joins Holly and Phillip, alongside occupational psychologist Nancy Doyle, to talk about how his condition affects his daily life.
Apologies in advance if you find anything offensive during this clip, however, we think it is important to allow Ryan to speak freely.

2:29 is a beautiful sequence
I hope his old manager sees this, I'm sure it's what we all think of him. Like if you agree 👍
Come back and watch it again 😂
He has to be faking it
why would he show the finger. That thing certainly can't be involuntary. And if it is then I think I might also have this syndrome
@@ungarbagebin facts
Poor guy cant imagine how hard it is to live with this ❤️
So good to hear you say this ❤️
It can be very frustrating when people tell you how cool and funny it is.
I'm proud of him to come on TV and tell his life story
Those middle fingers are pure gold lol
Best ever
& silver fox.....
THIS is the worst case? Wow I know people WAAAAAAAAAY worse than this.
So for the uneducated like myself who don't have encounters with people like this what are you referring to?
in UK they say.
Good for you
He is probably suppressing it a LOT because he knows he's on TV. When he's home alone is when it all really comes out.
@@sparrowhawk5673some people's Tourette's make it very hard to get a sentence out. Every 2nd or 3rd word will be interrupted by a medley of random words, movements, swear words, and sounds. Also, there are people with Tourette's who will SCREAM racial slurs or things like "I've got a bomb" when they're at an airport.
You know dang well the hosts are trying sooooo hard to not laugh. Cause it's hilarious!!!
Don't be so nasty 😒
Even the dude knows it's funny he's laughing. Don't cry so hard
You have to be kidding. There is nothing funny about this. ❤
@@lindam8430it’s not funny obviously because he has no will not to do it but it is because of the setting and how he also chooses to handle it 😂
Poor chap. Sounds like he has a naughty parrot living in his head.
lol that’s a good way to put it.
As someone with Tourette’s that’s exactly what it’s like
😂
Im only about 30% into the video but he seems to be kicking its butt 😊🙏🏻
There have been those who shout out obscenities or wildly hit someone they love - it's awful to have in any form but this fellow at least isn't offending anyone - do wish him well.
I actually never thought there would be pain from holding it in 🥺
Yes, it's like a huge tension in your body that you need to relieve. I can't speak for everyone, but for me, I begin to feel pressure and tension in my arms and legs. The pressure continues to build until I release my Tourette's word/sound/movement. However, it's not always like this. Half of the time, the sound/word/movement happens before I even know it's going on-- it happens, and then I realize it happened. It's out of my control.
This is a terrible disability,Im curious if theres a study out there as to why they may think this is so bad in the UK,Id like to watch it
Many years ago i used to have tics every now and than but i do not have them anymore. They just stopped occurring and i have lived a normal life ever since.
2:29 for quick reference
Thank you

How did he get that tattoo?
@@lostpockets2227They probably put him to sleep.
Helio what is 229 ? Doesn't anybody speak in complete sentences anymore ?
0:51 no wonder he has got the extreme cases of tourettes
This is horrific it looks like hiccups but much worse.
i would like to have a friend like this
At least on the positive side, he's a very good whistler.
Bless him but just picture him and Pete from big brother in the same room 😂
But he is so sweet
What a shame. That must be howling.
That guy could become a musician
How do they anchors control themselves! That’s right their job depends on it
Disclaimer i'm clearly not a scientist, yet i wonder if things like working out/doing sports, singing and/or martial arts for example could help to 'release' some pressure and/or gain more control over tics/inclination to say or do certain unwanted uncontrollable things
I couldn't stop laughing at 2:28.......I literally died
Me too😭😭😭🤚
Lovely chap he’d make a good entertainer
I have autism. You don’t “suffer” from autism - it’s a part of who you are.
Hi fellow autistic! You're absolutely right
The only thing I'd say I "suffer" from is the crippling anxiety which thankfully is doing better
@@borntoslay3996 i would not have been better off without autism
I have it as well, I was only diagnosed when I was 28, I’m 32 now and since being diagnosed it has been a LOT easier to understand certain things, my main problem is I can’t understand emotions and HATE being touched, to a point where it makes me rather angry
Others around people with mental illness, like Tourette's, may suffer though. Tourettes also may offend people who are violent and may lead to them being harmed. In America, where the Left has made an industry of offense and anger, it could dangerous. God help them...
@@LilFoxyCosplayEverybody has autism nowadays. It’s getting popular. I remember back in the 90s you very rarely heard of autism. Unless it was something now a film like rain man.
How do u get tattoos with out moving amazing
He seems fine , I've seen worse

My children had a high school math teacher with Tourette’s.

There’s not much swearing so this doesn’t shock me too much , I’m sure there’s people far worse than this with Tourette’s.

Tourette’s is nowhere NEAR as common as autism.
I would hire him immediately!! His tourette is amazing !! 🎉
Which one of them has touretts?
Wonder if it's linked to jabs at the same time? :(

Well the girl in America is so so much worse than this guy and ppl actually think she's faking but I doubt you'd be able to keep up the momentum because this is exhausting
People do a lot of exhausting things for money.
He didn't curse or use profanity, he seemed more tame than what I was expecting
he probably had to supress it alot in this instant
From what I've seen. Ryan is not the worst. Others I've seen use course words every 5 seconds. So to put it.
I have tics

His isn't too bad to be honest. The girl here in the US that's on TIkTok is way worse. She says super offensive things and far more often. He just makes little noises mostly and seems to have more control in general. I'm also impressed he was able to be still long enough for a tattoo.
Coz the one in US is so fake , maybe true she has it but she over doing it for views and money . Curse too much u can tell it’s fake when sho responding to bashers , she cursed on purpose 😅and very long . Can’t even finished a sentence but no tics when dancing 😅

He coulda said something really bad tbh

He's not too bad. I've seen way worse, tourette's tics than his... some scream, bark even do violent movements... he controls it very well actually
Tics can be terrible and paralysing at times but also look like a simple whistle once every few minutes- he probably has his bad moments too and this was not one of them
I've seen that too, where they bark like a dog or they yell out filthy words.
Some days will definitely be worse than other

Tourette's is so debilitating. My son has been driven to deep depression because of his Tourettes, ADHD, and ASD. He told me this week that he has considered suicide.
I relate. i use to be depressed and i would always tell my mum i want to commit suicide. however, there is Someone who gave me joy that is unexplainable . that person is Jesus. He knew what i needed and it was love and Him. He is the healer , He knows how ur son feels. infact i strongly encourage u and your son to watch a series called “the Chosen” from season 1-4 they are making 2 more seasons and it captures the life of Jesus rlly well. I pray your son will be healed. God bless ❤

I wonder if mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding or above all motorcycling would help. It’s hard to think of anything else when doing the latter in particular. The best therapy for stress and problems. Like a reset switch

Meaning ?
So many ignorant people in the comments thinking that this is not neurological.
People who have tics never ever intend to do what they do. Shaming or making fun of the tics does not help in any way.
I don't see a single comment that thinks this isn't a neurological disorder. Do you have an imaginary disorder?
Thank you for saying this!! I have 2 vocal tics and everybody judges me cause of this. God bless this guy!❤

She wanted to laugh so bad 😂😂😂😂 but he’s strong 💪 I know this is frustrating 🥺
Ryan has a special message at 2:29 to all those being mean in the comments.
Okay with me. It takes enormous courage and strength to be able to appear on television and educate people about how it is to live with Tourette’s.
So now I realize most parrots suffer from Tourette's too...
At least he keeps the cussing down. I feel so sad for these people 😢
There’s no Tourette’s in me the only thing I got is Asperger’s which is the high functioning autism
0:30 I thought that sounded good enough to be a singer ngl 🤩🤩🤩

Despite having both Physically and Psychological Disabilities the Australian Government gave Me a job in the ultra secretive Australian Department of Defence, during which tenure the Australian Army attempted to recruit Me as a Colonel in the Royal Australian Corps of Military Police.
Regrettably one of My Psychological Disabilities prevented Me from accepting, something I have regretted ever since.
That was in 1988.
He got that "Woooo" on point. Better than Ric Flair
Better than Michael Jackson😂😂
i have tourette first time people make funs on me but now i get lot of support
I think my 8 year old son has tourettes, waiting for an appointment with his doctor to get a diagnosis. I've been watching videos of people with Tourettes and it's making me even more sure thats what he has. He will sometimes blink and scrunch his face incessantly and will randomly shriek or blurt things out. I feel horrible because I've gotten mad at him in the past for his behavior (like when he is yelling or throwing things) and I know if it turns out that he has Tourettes he doesnt necessarily have control over some of his behavior. I feel so bad, he always had some behavior that seemed sort of like tics but they never lasted long and he would go months without anything. Ever since his dad left it has been more noticeable and a lot more often and from what I read stress and PTSD can make it worse. I feel like such a failure not looking into this sooner for my son 😔
You are not a failure! What a great mom you are❤❤❤❤ wish you the best!
As long as we learn from our mistakes, there's no point in shaming ourself
Reading your comment made me very sad. For your son but more so for how it made you think of yourself. Please don’t consider yourself a failure,
From reading that alone I can tell you really care and I’m sure you’re a great Mother and I’m sure he sees that too. Best of luck ❤
I have now found out that my son most likely just has childhood tics and should outgrow them within the next few years but to keep an eye on it. I guess it is quite normal for kids his age to have some physical tics which I didnt know about before. I so appreciate all the lovely comments from everyone, that really makes me happy. ✌💕🇨🇦
You are a fantastic mom and the fact your here writing about it you are strong and beautiful. Your son is so special 💙

I never thought about Tourette's and head pain...very interesting! I assume the tics help his body release the head pain/pressure based on what he said?
i wonder if smoking weed helps them like it helped people with parkinson's disease
Can’t Help Laughing. 😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😊Sorry.
Ive had mild tics due to autism i cant imagine having tourettes whete theyre worse and constant
The ones i get are pretty rare
The worst ive had is my arm flipping up (one time i had a glass in my hahd and got soaked my psrtner at the time couldnt stop lauging)
The other id an eyebrow raise/twitch and my head might twitch
The wordt i had was a full body jerk that sent my phone flying across the room
I’m autistic and I have tics
He’s really lovely and I think the noises are really musical and controlled! Amazingly interesting guy. Good luck! You’ll be fine
It's like he can't stop his subconscious mind from expressing itself.
Its not even his subconscious mind tho, its just random brain signals
I don't suffer from tourettes but usually when I'm alone I'll make strange faces open my mouth wide and just do crazy stuff like act like there's a bow and arrow in my hands
I think I have tourette's but I know how to suppress it in public
thats ridiculous that not many jobs accept people with tourette’s in the uk. So many jobs here in the us accept people with tourretes or maybe its just the state of california because i haven’t been outside of cali before. But the coworkers I have are so used to and understanding of my tourretes and the regular customers as well. That theres no issue. I think they should make more people aware of tourretes in other countries it would make life easier. I have tourretes and i have 2 jobs and go to school. They shouldnt make it a huge deal we can still do normal stuff if people dont make fun of tourettes.
Maybe because they can get a disability allowance instead? Still wrong though, give the man a chance!
It’s not that bad he’s said nothing about how gorgeous Holly is.
this is so sad people making fun of this guy it’s not his fault his got a condition u got to put your self in his shoes would u like people taking the piss out of you err NO so don’t do it to him
Totally agree. People should start thinking how frustrating it is already for the sufferers, and to then be made a laughing stock through no fault of their own. There is something desperately wrong with mankind and its lack of empathy.
I don't care. Take the piss out of me. 😂

2:27 I am an epileptic and I have two kinds of seizures. My seizures are focal temporal lobe epilepsy… I am curious if he is allowed to drive or is he able to keep his focus on the road… I can appreciate being brave enough to bring this on television. I think I might have a difficult time telling the whole world about my seizures. This is a fantastic video Ryan. Thank you for presenting your point of view and answering questions. I thought your description of holding back a sneeze is absolutely perfect.
Im epileptic with one of mine being focal temporal lobe epilepsy also and this didn't occur to me so also curious, I'm only guessing as he's fully aware and conscious during his tics that it would probably be ok. My understanding is that I'm not allowed to drive as I also lose consciousness regularly. Curious if it is ok for him
I was forever hanging around the top of the castle ⚡ turns out I had turret syndrome 😜
I like his squeaks and whistles .at least he doesn't bark like a dog, or yell out filthy words like some. Tourette's ...I thought they said that modern medication like benzos and SSRI s greatly helped Tourette syndrome
He's super brave to go on national TV, not sure I could do that. Fair play to him. It's great that the public learn more about Tourette Syndrome and how people live with it rather than it just being something to laugh at :)
I want him as my best friend
I know taht feeling where a pressure builds up and it hurts very seriously to try to resist it.
I have RLS/WED, where my legs have to start moving at night, and it hurts like crazy to resist it.
Do you have Tourette's, too? I have both Tourette's and severe RLS. I wonder if they are linked? When I need to release a tic, I get RLS symptoms that are only relieved by making my usual sound + movement.
@@groovydeath No, I don't think I have tourettes. I get some twitches, sometimes, but they're not tourettes-like, and and they're very minimal.
I do have very severe RLS, possibly with what they call PLMD, periodic limb movement disorder.
I don't only need to move my legs around at night like I'm on a bicycle, but I also get violent shakes as if someone tickles me under the foot. Completely involuntary muscle contractions.
I reduce the frequency of RLS by controlling th etempearture. Often, it helps to have cold legs. I'v enoticed that being a bit warm can set them off.
I mean, shout out to the tattoo artist, who did an awesome job..even for a normal person it is very exhausting to NOT move while getting a tattoo...
Too bad they think they have to edit out the the tics or don’t show him. 🤔🤔🤔
Seizures are NOT 'fits'. They are seizures. Thanks all.
im certain this man would trade everything he owns to get rid of this conditions, it must be so exhausting to live with this
