    I knew someone in high school with Tourette’s. He was such a kind young man and it’s a shame kids in school are oftentimes horrible people because I know high school was hard for him. He rarely could sit through a whole class because he was embarrassed that he was being distracting and teachers have even told him to leave. People need to get a grip because it’s not like people can help it and we, as a society, should just be able to go on with our lives as if nothing different is going on.
    I guess the one thing I’m curious about is if you regularly see a neurologist for your condition? I used to work for a neurologist but never had someone come in with Tourette’s. Do you meet with a neurologist for progress updates? Are there any kind of treatments available? Have you pursued any treatments?
    I don’t know you at all but you seem fun and sweet and I hope you’re happy with who are are and that you don’t give a crap what anybody thinks 😬❤️

    Recently I've noticed a neck jerking that I can't control. A lot of times I don't even notice at first that I'm doing it. Yesterday I was looking up info on tics to try and find out why it was happening, and then it got really bad. Like a tic attack or something? I'm not sure. But it was the worst it's ever been before and it lasted for like 20 minutes and by the time I finally was able to stop it my neck was hurting so bad I was crying. A little bit ago it happened again, not as bad as yesterday's but still worse than they usually are. I have anxiety and some other mental illnesses, so I think maybe that's it...

    • @ancient4263
      @ancient4263 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Anxiety triggers tics and heightened emotions (especially stress but also excitement etc.) Makes them significantly worse and may be the only time you notice them but if you have tics and anxiety you'd still be diagnosed with a tic disorder unless there's a different underlying condition (or medication that possibly causes tics) that causes it then its still a tic disorder. Talking or thinking about tics makes them get worse and neck jerks are one of the most common motor tics (it was my first one, and my partner who has tourettes' ) and motor tics almost always develop before vocal tics.
      I can't remember where I was going with this I think I had a point but I forgot so idk if any of this information is actually useful my bad 😭

    • @ancient4263
      @ancient4263 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Oh yeah I was trying to say the distinction between tic disorders and anxiety tics is definitely getting blurred! There's a lot of research to say they shouldn't be separated
      If you still have persistent tics that affect your life in any way its worth looking into tic disorders, coping mechanisms, and eventually a diagnosis

    It's so complicated, I have autism and ADHD and so I've had echolalia, palilalia, echopraxia, palipraxia, and many menta tics (do not know if they have a name) for a very long time... But recently I watched a documentary about tourettes and since then I have multiple tics a day... So I don't know if it's my autism and ADHD that just got hyperfixated on it, or if the documentary triggered my tics or I don't know.
    Though I called my local neurology service and they didn't know who to refer me to cause they had never gotten a call from an adult with tics apparently. Anyway, they are not very bothering, just wanting to make sure everything is fine, otherwise I can do anything I want, I just say/do funny things sometimes

    I've had tics (motor only) since at least about age 10 I think. I never knew what they were and was ok at hiding them in public.
    I'm 42 now and I THINK I have what's called Tourettic OCD. I've had more traditional OCD since age 6 or so, with the rituals of touching things as a way of trying to control things or "something bad will happen", but as I've gotten older, the rituals have lessened (I'm too lazy to touch an item 20 items! lol) but the tics have worsened.
    My tics are...
    - Clenching the right side of my jaw / upper neck,
    - Clenching my right upper arm muscle until it trembles,
    - Nodding my head about 5-10 times so quickly it looks more like a tremble,
    - Quickly and forcefully contracting my upper and lower stomach muscles (this one is exhausting and the most annoying and frequent),
    - Sticking my tongue out and up to touch my top teeth. It feels like I need to "stretch" it,
    - Blinking one or both eyes very hard and repeatedly, as it feels like normal blinks aren't enough (the left eye is the worst),
    - Quickly touching my right thumb to just beside my mouth, making a kiss expression with my lips, and then giving a thumbs up,
    - Rolling and widening my eyes as they feel they need to be "relaxed".
    The only time I don't do these is when I'm asleep or REALLY sleepy. I've got depression, anxiety, BPD and PTSD also and apparently some of the SSRI anti-depressants like Zoloft are supposed to help with OCD, but nothing's ever made a difference to my tics.
    Thank you so much for making this video! 😍

    I've had a non-verbal tick for about 7 years now and I've never been to GP about it because I'm embarrassed about it. But now after watching your video I know I probably have a form of Tourettes so just having a label to put on it makes me feel better about myself. It gets worse when I'm stressed or have anxiety. It also gets worse when I get the feeling someone notices the tick and this makes me do it more when I'm around them. Its awful and this stresses me out even more. Its not nice to have it can get you down so bad. It makes you feel like you have something wrong with yourself mentally and I suppose you have :( But just knowing others have it and I'm not alone is a HUGE help so thanks for the video. Some ticks DO GO AWAY when you have no stress and you stop thinking about it that's what I've found. So you might not have the problem for life but you will always remember it because its apart of YOU but just forget it and be happy and it will go away. I HAVE TOURETTES and if you have to tell someone that because they pick up on a tick just tell them what you have and be PROUD of it. Dont let it get you down.

    Hi Zara! I love your video! I had a question. I have had tics for 7 months and I fall into the Tourette's Syndrome categorizes. I might self diagnose myself with Tourette's this year or the beginning of next year. I was wondering if it's okay to do that because they don't really hurt me unless I hit or bang things, and they don't cause a lot of problems with school work, but sometimes socializing with strangers is difficult.
    (Sorry this is really long) Another thing is that my mom thinks I am faking my tics for attention because I always suppress around my family since they have said that and I'm not sure what to do at this point. In the US I think I'm too young to go to the doctor by myself and I don't know when I'll go again. Do you have any tips that would make it easier to tell my parents that my tics are not something I would ever want to fake?

I went for annual blood test check up and my Dr put me on 50,000 IU of Vit D3 calciferol twice a week for low levels. I noticed a few months later my tics were much less frequent and eventually stopped. Also cured my migraines. Took me years to actually make the connection. 72 now take my D3 regularly

    So, I show all symptoms of ADHD and I tic but I only tic when I get stressed so would that mean I have anxiety tics and adhd I'm confused lol (both are undiagnosed because my parents don't believe me so I can't get tested)

    So I've been sheltered. My mom never took me to the doctor so I have no records of my tics before 21.. but now they've become self destructive but im not sure how to prove or get a proper diagnosis

    Does it always start at a young age? Been having some involuntary movements or making noises, nothing i would call chronic.

    Before you got diagnosed, were your tics as obvious as now? How old you were when the tics started? I hope you well ❤️

    Search Electronic Assault, learn symptoms, and how microwave frequencies can cause many symptoms that you won't learn in class, or hospital.

    I got diagnosed at age eight I think, and my parents took me to the doctor. The doctor thought I was having seizures, so they took me to the hospital where I got diagnosed with tics. I don’t think I had it for a year though, and I didn’t have any vocal tics until a year later??? I’m confused. Can someone explain how I got diagnosed without what was said in the video?

    Ik this isn't ics but do you know what it might be if I keep shaking a lot and keep getting like cold chill type things and twitching/jerking a lot
    Idk but I have been like jerking or twitching a lot and getting chills and shaking a whole bunch but just my hands
    Sometimes it concerns my friends and stuff and they ask me if I'm okay
    Idk if it might be my anxiety or not I just hope you can get back to me and tell me bc I have never had a doctor notice
    It never happens when I am concentrated or talking to adults or doctors

    So I have had intrusive tics like punching or telling tics for around half a year but I have had twitched like blinking or rolling my eyes for a few years. I am 14 now so I have been struggling with it since quite a young age. My parents think I am taking my tics and I have tried to explain to them a lot that I don't know how I could be taking them. I hurt myself a lot and I also have absent seizures and sometimes my joints will lock up or I will pass out. Do you have any advice for me to convince them that I am not faking because I can't see a doctor without their permission because I am only 14

    I don’t like to self diagnose but the only time I “tic” is when I think about them and they’re only motor tics. I don’t know if my brain is just tricking me and I’m just making myself do this or what. Can anyone help me out? I have really bad anxiety, adhd, and I could possibly be on the spectrum too. I’m just interesting in knowing what this could be

    i have anxiety, ocd and autism and have had tics since i was 10, i know my tics aren’t to do with anxiety or ocd bc when i tic it makes both worse because i have a lot of breathing tics that i can’t control and happen constantly, i thought it could’ve been chronic tic disorder but some of the tics in my throat are muscle contracting ones but i haven’t had a new tic in about 2 years so i’m not sure if it’s still ctd or mild tourette’s

    I have swearing tics, but I don’t have touretts yet. Would it still be considered coporlailia

    • @Zara_Beth
      @Zara_Beth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yes, coprolalia is a type of tic (rarer than many other types) but is not only with Tourette syndrome, other tic disorders and causes of tics can cause coprolalia

    I've never seen a doctor to be diagnosed with any tic disorder but I have struggled with multiple physical and verbal tics from the time I was a child. one thing nobody sees to mention is how painful the physical tics can be from doing them repetitively. Horrible knots in my muscles and bruising from not being able to control my movements. Is this something other people battle?

    This video is so helpful! 🤍
    Mine are gradually getting worse, and have been since January but they started in around November I think? I’m not too sure. Once I grow the confidence to, I’m hoping to get diagnosis’s of my mental illnesses/health. I think then it’ll help reduce my overthinking into faking this, when I know I’m not.

    I have pretty bad conversion disorder, as well as adhd/add, anxiety and ocd. I do tic at times but not as often if I’m medicated. Right now I’m not medicated and it’s annoying. I bit husbands ear, licked my dogs forehead, flap my arms like a bird and blink a lot.
