Rebecca stole the show even with how little screentime she got.
Cdpr initially wanted to cut Rebecca out of the show because they think having a loli character is weird in the cyberpunk universe when they got the character cast design. But Studio trigger insisted, "No,the loli must stays" refusing to proceed without having her concept getting approved.
Crazy how Rebecca became the best girl for the fandom with only 6 minutes of screentime, even the cdpr dev at the end called her best girl and glad they went through with the concept in the board.

Fun fact, a lot of old players reinstall back the game just to beat the s out of Adam Smasher using Rebecca's shotgun after finishing Edgerunners.

The true tragedy of the show that some don't realize is that David actually failed to fufill Lucy's dream. After she fell in love with him her dream changed, her dream was to be with him. David had symbolically become Lucy's Moon and without him going the actual moon truly meant nothing.
Damnit now I'm even more sad :((

The saddest thing I read was how Lucy was basically David's last dose of immunoblockers. She was the last thing keeping him sane and the last thing keeping him alive, in every sense of the word.
David's dream became Lucy's (to see her on the moon), and Lucy's dream became David (the moon is synonymous with her love for him). It made "My Moon, My Man", the episode title, hit extra hard.

Fun fact. The OP spoils David's fate. He actually gets shot through the head by a man made of skyscrapers. Symbolism to show that there are no good endings in Night city. Even the lyrics of the song have been changed to remove the the part saying "lets burn this city". thats the original lyric in the song. This was probably done to say that you just cant fight the system and win. They never stood a chance.
That blind confidence in David fighting Adam Smasher got several laughs out of me, not gonna lie. We've grown too accustomed to anime logic/plot armor. Yes, the scrappy teenager can take on the special forces cyborg with several decades of experience. Enjoyed the reaction.
I've played the Cyberpunk TTRPG since the late 90's and his in-game stats except for I think intelligence are almost all 15 and over, out of a maximum of 20, and he's more heavily armed and armored than a military AV. Just a complete steamroll for nearly anyone facing the dude. The fact that V actually manages to kill him is absolutely unbelievable and a testament to how amazingly badass V is.

@@patrickwaldeck6681 Yup some badass stats. In the end though, nothing the players could not get if provided enough game play time and money. He was basically a Samson Cyborg frame with the optional stat boosts, but then that was around 2020. In 2077 definitely more of a military 'borg. Though the RED rules don't allow for full borgs.
@@patrickwaldeck6681the reason being is because of Johnny, V had the body to go against Adam smasher and Johnny had the knowledge of how smasher fights, with both they held a 1% up chance against him, very slim but they still road on the edge of it. Hell the moment smasher felt pain he underestimated it because he wanted to feel more of it and that’s what also gave them the upper hand too

Those are the stats from the 2020 setting, so as of 2023, when he was still a much more 'normal'(for 2077 views at least) person, not a 'Full Borg Monster' like he is later on. He's had 50+ years since then to upgrade tech, become stronger, etc. This is the same thing people seem to neglect when also doing their 'V vs Morgan Blackhand' predictions, they all like to use what we know about Blackhand, which means 55 year old information(in setting). If he is still around, much like Smasher, he would have upgraded...and considering he nearly killed smasher before he disappeared, that would be quite the fight.
Rebecca's death really hit the hardest for me 😭
Also seeing Adam Smasher in the show was great, seeing more of him really shows how formidable V is in the game.

@@FlaccidPlatypus I dunno. I was in this boat for a long time, but honestly, it just feels like Smasher was nerfed in the game. V was formidable, but feels lame to think in less than a year of being a merc, V was able to take down a monster that's been in the game for nearly 7 decades. They should've made it so we barely get away from him during a chase sequence or something, rather than pitting us against him directly where the only outcome is us crushing him completely.

@@imo098765 Phantom Liberty is gonna add a cyberpsychosis element to gameplay, so there's gonna be a limit as to how much we can take. I was also under the impression that the Relic implant negated any cyberpsychosis, but looks like we were wrong.

Adam Smasher’s the final boss in the game, which takes place a year after this.
Seeing the show makes his death in-game all the more satisfying, especially if you use Rebecca’s shotgun to finish him
Adam Smasher isn't just the final boss of the video game, he's also the boogeyman of the original roleplaying game. Whenever the party of players start getting a little too cocky, the DM can drop Adam Smasher in to give the party a very grim reality check. That was basically his function in the game; to remind players that they ain't shit and there's always a bigger fish. Amusingly, that is exactly how he ended up being used in the anime, which is something I enjoyed very much.

@@LazzyVamples i was thinking when i was watching it that Smasher would kill David whether he was videogame Smasher or TT Smasher. the difference being with videogame Smasher, David would put up a bit of a fight. nope. David only lasted as long as he did because Smasher was curious about his chrome level, how "sane" was he? once he'd satisfied his curiosity, he took David to the ground, gave an inferred invitation to join him, and zeroed him promptly upon refusal with a surprisingly genuine, "oh well". hinting that, in his own psychopathic way, Smasher is probably somewhat lonely.

No he didn't, he promised to TAKE her to the moon not send her. The meaning of the episode 10's title "My man my Moon" refers to the fact that Lucy's true dream was to be with HIM. He had symbolicly become her moon.

Honestly pretty impressed you weren’t a mess😂This ending always fucks me up when they go through the slide show of the whole crew it sucks David had no one found a family then lost them all again and now Lucy has to go through life with no David and all her friends besides Falco😭
This anime is great on its own, but the more you know about the setting, the better it becomes. One interesting tidbit is that even though many in the settings are under the impression that cyberpsychosis is certain doom, that's not actually true. Cyberpsychosis is essentially a form of principle alienation; a state wherein the individual is progressively removed from their humanity due to more and more of them being replaced by machinery. However, this effect can be effectively alleviated through various methods that remind the individual that they are, in fact, still human. Therapy is one way to do this, but close relationships is another way.
In David's case, he started drifting away from his humanity because Lucy started to be absent when David needed him most after Maine's death. Without that romantic intimacy to remind him of what it is to be human, he started to lose himself. Tragically, Lucy's efforts to protect David were ultimately what ended up killing him.

I love how every newbie to the world of Cyberpunk is always sure that Smasher won't be able to beat David. (not being sarcastic, i genuinely find it amusing)
Hell even V, the game protag needed the engram of THE rockerboy and possible help to win against him and that's still an "if" since losing to him counts in the Don't Fear The Reaper ending.
There's only one single person that could ever match Adam Smasher and that's Morgan Blackhand, The Solo of Solos.

My first anime… the show that spun my world around, by introducing me to the fucking incredible world of anime! I have not stopped binging anime since this released, Iv gone to my first Con, and met some of my closest friends and now I’m going to a language school in Kyoto Japan! All because I watched this show on a whim one random weekend! Cyberpunk Edgerunners had impacted my life in ways I could never have imagined, and 80+ anime later it still is my number one favorite anime of all time, and it WILL keep that title forever, I have no doubt about that!
I manage to go a couple months without one of these Episode 10 reactions showing up, and then I have to relive it. Keeps me humble.

Great finale that did so, so many things right. I think you are right that Lucy does feel guilt for bringing in David and that is partially why she didn't tell him about her solo missions to keep them both safe, but David was really just looking for something to live for when he ran into Lucy, to him she saved him from a hopeless existence. Very tragic.
Props to David for being one of the very few main characters that is actually lost for the vast majority of the narrative, and finds strength in fulfilling other people's dreams when he himself is at a loss for what to do. I think the vast majority of people do not have this ironclad dream and will to reach it like most MCs in anime, so it is refreshing to see one like David.

Ya know, it's not until having rewatched the series a number of times along with reactors and such, but there is a distinct mirroring between the First and Last members of David's 'runner crew' to die. Pilar was the first, killed by a Cyberpsycho in the alleyway, and the exact moment of his death was replayed for us 3 times from various angles. Rebecca, the last member killed, also by a Cyberpsycho(Fully functioning as he may be), Pilar's younger sister, and her death is replayed for us from multiple angles. It's a subtle choice, but having finally noticed it, I can't help but feel it was the right one. It makes both of these moments stand out so much more without even realizing they intended for that.

Rebecca's end sucks so much, did that really have to happen?! T_T I hate that guy so much, idk if David could've gotten clean of the cyberpsychosis, but that moment actually seemed so hopeful, only for a second tho until that "machine" came and destroyed it..
I haven't played the Game, so idk much about Smasher either, but it looks to me like he can also only handle all this chrome and weapons and shit because he basically gave up being human. Like David already only had his upper body and head at the end really, but Smasher looks like just a robot at this point, even his voice wasn't human. Saying he is special when almost nothing on him is human anymore, fuck that

This was always going to be a tragedy. For all of us who played Cyberpunk 2077, when we first saw a mention of Adam Smasher, we knew it was not going to end well for David.

I am a guy and I love how much i resonate with david and you resonate with lucy, I really didn't think about the guilt that she feels right now. As a guy david's feeling of not being enough and don't want to ask help to deal with your problems hitted me really close.

Edgerunners is a beautiful study in contradictions. Lucy says most of them are remembered by how they died. But David? She remembers him by how he *lived.*

when i watched this.... at the moment Rebecca died, i stopped it and left it for a day. I was so mad. I almost didnt want to finish it. This was an absolute masterpiece.

Yeah, they did phenomenally about keeping the vibe for Cyberpunk 2077. It's all wrong. Nothing works right for people. Studio Trigger did a wonderful job overall. I loved the added details of having the phone calls written out as text as a visual overlay for them like what you see when you play. The emotion they make you feel throughout the whole thing... It's just an amazing roller coaster and it made me instantly add "I Really Wanna Stay At Your House" to my playlist.

Cyberpunk has the cadence of a horror movie. Night city itself is the monster killing every character until Lucy the last girl is able to make her escape from the monster. Capitalism metaphor is too real. When system is as bad as it is now crime almost seems sane. And you have to become a psycho to thrive
That's what makes it a dystopia, Night City and probably the entire world, is beyond saving. Just GTFO. We can still save this world from capitalism.
