@@TaRatTinCan David you're right to some degree, although the show also points to how David is a genuinely good person who gets fucked up by NC. The only time we see him kill civilians is when he's suffering a cyberpsychotic episode, and he only becomes a cyberpsycho because he's willing to do whatever it takes to get Lucy out of NC meaning more chrome. The first time he kills someone is after they murder one of his crew, before then we see he's hesitant to even take a gun. Lucy is is pretty ruthless, but her circumstances are even worse. She's trained to be a weapon from a young age and used in dangerous data mining, and then is hunted by Arasaka for the rest of her life. She only ever kills people coming after her or David, which seems pretty justified to me.
He got to experience real love with lucy that's not something everyone gets to experience . I'm proud of him . If she would of died he would of just went off the edge anyways she kept him grounded . So it had to be him he got her to the moon.
Yeah, but that's like saying, "people are inherently good," or "people are inherently evil." There are inevitably going to be exceptions to either rule.
@@Tantalus010 Sure but have you ever seen an exception in Night City unless you had a DM that made a custom story for the tabletop? I can’t think of a single truly happy ending in any official Cyberpunk story. They are bittersweet at best.

Hey, here's some trauma to go with your trauma. Bout half a year ago when they released the expansion for the game, they also added in an easter egg into the game. In the graveyard where you can find eulogies for various characters that die in the course of the game, you can also find one for David written by Lucy. It says: "you didn't take me to the moon but you were there with me." There's one next to it for David's mom as well that says: "you were right. David made it to the top of Arasaka tower." There's one nearby dedicated to Pilar, Maine and Dorio that says: "you were the only family I ever had." There's one for Rebecca that says: "I regret not finishing our conversation." Finally, there's one for Kiwi hidden away in a corner saying: "you taught me to never trust anyone in NC."
"David Martinez - You didn't take me to the moon, but you were there with me" "Rebecca - I regret not finishing our conversation" "Pilar, Dorio, Maine - You were the only family I ever had" Lucy left head stones for all of them in the cemetary in the game. such a perfect touch
The fact that this show can elicit such strong emotional reactions is a testament to how well it was made and performed. I still tear up when listening to the music from this show…
the OST "I really want to stay at your house" began as just a song you listen to in the world of NC. Now it is synonymous with edgerunners specifically lucy and david. After the update for phantom liberty, the title of the ost is now a sidequest where you can have a date with your love interest at any one of your apartments. This side quest can be repeated as many time as you want.
there's also one "mini episode" that tells small separate story, made as music vid for one of the songs: Let You Down by Dawid Podsiadło . It's amazing as well
Yeah, Cyberpunk 2077 is up there with No Man's Sky as far as gaming redemption stories go. Both titles went from being absolutely shit on to being genuinely treasured by it's fanbases. It just goes to show that you shouldn't give up, and that mistakes can be fixed if you just put a lot of hard work into it.
No man's sky probably still has it beat since it did it through sheer game improvement. While 2077 had the anime to help get people reinvested in the world. But the 2.0 update definitely helped it to not be forced to live in the show's shadow
I think most shows are such bullshit with how their story is told but not this. This show hurts because it's close to reality. No miracles. No plot armor. The city wins.
I love this show. It’s such a good story of a good kid born on the wrong side of the tracks. It’s such a tragic and emotional story about the friends and family and the love that blossomed set against the brightly lit facade of the soulless city. And that’s I love about Cyberpunk. These beautiful characters like David and Lucy, and V and Johnny makes the emotion felt that much more vivid and impactful when set against the dreary and uncaring world of Night City.
When Maine went cyberpsycho, he hurt Kiwi and almost got the whole crew killed. I think that's why she "betrayed" them : she saw David follow the same path and decided to bail out before he went nuts. She didn't knew Lucy was her target before her capture.
Adam Smasher is extremely scary, him being the NC boogyman is well deserved. Now, you will experience the same PTSD we experience whenever you hear that song. If you play the game, you can get revenge for Rebecca and David, though Smasher killing David was actually a mercy. The statement about Daving being turned into a construct is actually a terrible fate that was averted. Still be sure to react to the Cyberpunk AMV "Let you Down" Happy endings? For folks like us, in Night City? Not going to happen.
funny as it is, not really true. Smasher was, well, smashed by a RPG decades before 2077 and he was given the choice of getting borg'd or killed, and he went borg. Later on he was on Arasaka Tower when the nuke went off. There wasn't much left of him afterwards, but enough to "borg him up" even more afterwards. Bottom point, he didn't cut out most of himself". Others did that for him. Not that he had the slightest problem with that, mind you, but still...
The whole point of the show is that there are no happy endings in the Night city. Animes should be more like this: Brutal and honest about how the world is really like!
I just finished you girls going through this entire series. I was teary eyed, but couldn’t help but laugh at the two of you. Please don’t consider my laughter to be anything other than a compliment. It was a joy to watch the rollercoaster🎢of emotions. You should definitely give the game a chance. I have never replayed a game after I’ve completed all achievements/trophies/challenges. On Cyberpunk 2077 I completed all achievements on my 2nd playthrough, and am going to complete my 4th playthrough this weekend and intend on starting my 5th. Point being the game has a replayability factor that I’ve never experienced with any other game. I really think you would enjoy it.
One of the few shows to actually make me cry like a baby. "I really want to stay at your house" song is what really did it. The song makes you think of so much more as the show goes on.
I loved your reactions. A question I’ve asked myself is why do people watch reactions of people watching shows. The answer I’ve come to is they want to relive the moments of excitement, joy and loss. Cyberpunk edge runners is clearly a modern tragedy with so many important issues of addiction, communication, friendship, love and loss. It’s meant to encompass all the setting of night city has to offer. The trauma of the ending is still one of the most brutal moments I’ve watched in an anime. It’s one of those things where only people who’ve gone through it can truly understand how it made us all feel. Rebecca for me is the hardest thing to watch. A loyal friend with unrequited love for David fighting for him only to be cut down by a monster. Thank you for sharing your trauma and remember your not alone. We close ourselves off from each other far too often but genuine reactions, both of you sharing your vulnerabilities , helps heals that pain overtime. Side note you probably have a patreon I haven’t signed up for but if your looking for a different palette cleanser I would like to recommend two shows. One a hilarious, romantic comedy called Kaguya-Sama Love is War and the other an incredible fantasy adventure filled with action, hilarious writing and based off the events off a dungeons and dragons campaign, the Legend of Vox Machina. Take care.
I love the way you wrote all this! I agree, Rebecca's fate is the hardest to watch for me as well for the reasons you listed. Really wish she could've survived with Falco and Lucy.
10:27 I love the Falco's laugh. Considering he's still mostly organic, that laugh meant "By all logic I was supposed to be dead thirteen minutes ago, I don't understand how or why I'm still alive but I'm certainly glad for it."
The point of the show, if you could boil it down to one thing, is how Night City (and trying to live in its system) ends in ruin for everyone but a few. Doesn't matter who you are really, trying to be "great" or "somebody" in that system is an exercise in futility. The people who make it are the ones who see the cage for what it is and leave. At least, that's my read of it. There's strong commentary on society, particularly a possible future for america, baked into the universe and the stories told in it.
It honestly could happen; if technology advances enough (which is a reasonable assumption considering how fast our species has advanced from harnessing electricity to using AI), plus the mega rich corporations in the U.S., with HUGE influences in our country, government, and their service necessities.
The Game breaks your heart in about 7 to 9 different ways more depending on if you buy the DLC along with the game or not ^^ All the stories in cyberpunk are very emotional and the music is just so fitting every time.
The point was to achieve Lucy’s dream and get her to the moon they manage to accomplish that. Cyberpunk isn’t really about happy endings not in there purest form anyways, it’s usually more bitter Sweet. There is a Point, and they do achieve the objective by the end, but probably not through the most ideal means or even with the most ideal outcome but it’s usually a half good half bad, ending, roughly.
Again the tears. It was so good. Loved your reaction. In the game when I found David’s jacket and Rebecca’s gun, I got all teary eyed again. Definitely a game to think about playing.
How the show wraps up is literally just essence of what the cyberpunk game/series/universe is all about. And unfortunately that message is “Nothing good happens in Night city”
@@in_ravelI see it differently. Good things can happen anywhere despite any circumstance. But not without pain and suffering to boot. Especially in night city
Ah yes, when "I Really Wanna Stay At Your House" turns from a catchy track to instant pain as soon as you hear it. Welcome to Night City. Fun fact: If you play the game, you'll actually catch that song on the in-game radio. ;)
5:00 what happened was Kiwi basically used a weapon glitch or cyberware malfunction quickhack on Faraday, either (most likely) overriding his own arm cyberware motor function and making him shoot himself, or malfunctioning the weapon so it misfires. Either way, the end result is the same: Faraday loses control of the gun and shoots himself in the foot, it looks like. You can see the little red menu holograms appear around his arm right before it happens, indicating that Kiwi is quickhacking. You can see the same thing happen in episode 4, when Lucy short-circuits/overheats the cyberpsycho that killed Pilar.
“Sorry, I wish we could go to the moon together” and then a flashback of all the innocent times with that song in the background was absolutely criminal, just hurts every time. The more I think about this show the more I think the writer went through some real shit and wanted us to feel that pain too, and it worked depressingly well.
Hi there. Just binged this playlist of this and really loved just how genuine your reactions were. I had played the game at launch and watched the series when it was released and still can't make it through a year later without tearing up over the storytelling and just how masterfully this hits. I hope you are doing amazing, and if you haven't yet, highly recommend the 2 music videos they put out for it as well for "I Really Want to Stay At Your House" and "Let You Down". As a warning, both are expectedly emotional. "Let You Down" also serves as a mini prequel short story. But again, thank you for an amazing reaction and welcome to the support group of the shows fans.
I feel like Davids story just goes to show you how special the main character of the video game is. I think Lucy even talks to the video game character so if they link up V is strong enough to keep Lucy safe but i think Lucy moved on to live a Low key life while stayig in tune with the Hell V raises in night city.
Y'know what makes it even more sad? Lucy told David that Cyberpunks are remembered for how they die, but at the end, she only remembers him for how he was before everything happened.
Was great watching your reaction to this. Endings like this where you feel happy and sad are standard for the Cyberpunk universe, the game will leave you feeling the same. " Guess I meant, I dunno... a happier ending... for everyone involved. Johnny Silverhand : Here, for folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people." Probably my favorite quote from the game. If you haven't already, theres a "music video" of sorts for the end credits song that worth checking out.
"A happy ending? For folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people." I really hope you two try out the game sometime. The story is every bit as amazing as this one.
I could not wait until you guys got to the end. Although I did follow your journey, I knew you guys would understand everything till the end. Great reaction as always
Sometimes we forget that thanks to the sacrifice of many people we can enjoy the benefits that we experience today. For me, Rebeca is the one who most promotes this idea, that although her love was not reciprocated, she did not hesitate to sacrifice her life for what she loved, even knowing that she could never be with David.
You girls must watch the music video clip for the ending song of the show. It expands a little bit the story, and if you girls want to pause it to read all that is showed, do it, it makes it better! After that I really think you two should play the game and record your reactions of it. Maybe alternate who plays to each part. If you enjoyed the show, you'll love the game!
You don't make a name as a cyberpunk by how you live, you make a name how you die, rest easy David, eulogies aside there's actually a drink in the game to memorialize David and a grave you can find for him
The saddest part is that Lucy’s goal wasn’t to to the moon. Her goal was to choose her own path and the moon is allways portrayed as the most free place. Her goal changed to include Martinez but he didn’t understand that she wanted to be with him more than to travel to a superficial place
There is a character in the game who once asked, if they want to go out the "quiet life ? or blaze of glory?". and it just solidifies that in night city, you are just a spec of dust in the sea of people. nothing you do would make an impact. So the best thing to do is to choose how you wanted to go out.
There is a line you cross when you realize that this is going to be a one way trip. After this the question becomes "how are you going to go out?" and glory lies in going out with a bang... There was no future for David, he was done. There was no "happily ever after" option for him...
The ugly cry episode. This show won anime of the year when it came out. The show doesn't have a 'point' other to show the dystopian future of people living in the moment. It's a gorgeous story imo of how the meaning of life, even as futuristic as they are, is still the same. David was an example of someone who was screwed from the getgo and lived a great life and was a happy dude either way. He died happy knowing what he wanted came to life. Cyberpunk isn't a traditional 'happy ending' kind of show, and I've been screaming this for my whole life about anime that they need to stop letting every single story have a nice ending where no one dies and everyone lives happily ever after. These kind of shows are also important to drag you back down to reality and remind us who we are. As much as I hate league of legends, arcane did a great job of leaving the pain in the story as well. It's essential to make things more threatening. That there's an actual threat in the show. Same with attack on titan.
10 episodes it all it took to tell an amazing story, get people interested in an entire genre, and essentially revive a game and catapult it into massive popularity for a time.
First things first, great reaction, guys. Keep up the great work much, love. Secondly, I love this ending. She gets her dream thanks to David, but he ends up dying, which is so sad. Also, I agree. I love Rebecca! She's my favorite character! : ( What a ride! I love this series!
If yall do end up playing the game, remember that Adamsmasher told david hed make an interesting "construct". That plays a huge part in the game and in Davids case its a really cool thought
Wiped out an army of Militech and Arasaka goons. Broke into Arasaka Tower's top floor and made their counterintelligence operatives piss themselves. Went toe to toe with Adam Smasher who's been killing and chroming since the 2010's and actually lasted longer than a second! Stared death in the face with a smirk and a "fuck you" when the end came. Yeah, he earned his legend status.
I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried at the ending too. I lost somebody close to me too and our dream was to go on holiday together, after she passed i still went for the both of us.
Normally after I finish a TV show I'm down for a week max 2 weeks, but this one gives me depression for a 3 months... shesh I was so in to it. The only one that hit me so hard, that I remember, Your Lie in April.
13:39 the whole plot of the show is showing that the main character is night city. That’s exactly why the anime worked because they didn’t adapted the story of the game any story works in that city.
I remember crying multiple times during that last episode. To be fair, in the world of Night City, Lucy had the happiest ending anyone could possibly get.

It's been like a slogan since Cyberpunk was a board game way back: "There are no happy endings in Night City".
@@Tantalus010 Your observation made me think about something else, just like in The Witcher world, main stories ain't inherently good or evil, they're just totally gray, Night City is pretty much the same, even the 'happiest' endings are bittersweet.
@@Tantalus010Of course there are exceptions, they’re called Adam Smasher and Morgan Blackhand.
If you’re anyone else but them, good luck, maybe you’ll have some fun before the end.
@@tiringsarcasm I don't know if I'd call Smasher's ending "happy" considering what happened to him in CP2077. As for Morgan Blackhand, no one knows where he is or what happened to him, or if he's even alive. There's rumours of him popping up here and there, but nothing concrete.
"David Martinez - You didn't take me to the moon, but you were there with me"
"Rebecca - I regret not finishing our conversation"
"Pilar, Dorio, Maine - You were the only family I ever had"
Lucy left head stones for all of them in the cemetary in the game. such a perfect touch
"The candle that burns twice as bright, but lasts half as long." And David Martinez has burned so very very brightly.
Especially with only ten 24-ish minute episodes. Some shows fail to do that with way more time investment.
there's also one "mini episode" that tells small separate story, made as music vid for one of the songs: Let You Down by Dawid Podsiadło . It's amazing as well
Cyberpunk 2077 redemption should be on no 1 greatest comeback on the gaming history
From meme Cyberbug 2077 to a masterpiece
honestly yes
Probably not as big a comeback as, say, Final Fantasy 14... but I get your point, pretty amazing turnaround for what we had 2 years ago.
Along with No Man's Sky, I agree.
Becca best girl til the end 🥲
This and blue eye samurai are just perfection. Netflix really do great anime.
Fantastic reaction channel. ❤The song “I really want to stay at your house” will forever make me emotional now. 😢
When Maine went cyberpsycho, he hurt Kiwi and almost got the whole crew killed. I think that's why she "betrayed" them : she saw David follow the same path and decided to bail out before he went nuts. She didn't knew Lucy was her target before her capture.
trust me, when Rebecca got killed, we ALL screamed
Adam Smasher is extremely scary, him being the NC boogyman is well deserved.
Now, you will experience the same PTSD we experience whenever you hear that song.
If you play the game, you can get revenge for Rebecca and David, though Smasher killing David was actually a mercy. The statement about Daving being turned into a construct is actually a terrible fate that was averted.
Still be sure to react to the Cyberpunk AMV "Let you Down"
Happy endings? For folks like us, in Night City? Not going to happen.
In the words of Stupendium, from their song “The Data Stream”: “It’s easy to cut out the middleman,
When he’s cut out most of himself.”
funny as it is, not really true.
Now go listen to that song in repeat and cry like the rest of us
The whole point of the show is that there are no happy endings in the Night city. Animes should be more like this: Brutal and honest about how the world is really like!
I watched this episode as a 23 years old boy but actually I cried the same way😅
So are you a girl now?
Show is a real masterpiece. 10 episodes and they make make you love these characters then tear then away from you. hits deep, and leaves a wound.
Really wish she could've survived with Falco and Lucy.
would love to see a playthrough of the game next, it's amazing
Its easily the best piece of tragic media in my eyes. And i cant listen to that damn song without starting to tear up
watch ylia
Watch akame ga kill
Love how they added content in the game to coincide with Edgerunners and the memorials in the game
I’ve waited so long for this one. This show changed the game for me
“They weren’t even gonna like- …he wasn’t- waait…” 😂😂😂
The Game breaks your heart in about 7 to 9 different ways more depending on if you buy the DLC along with the game or not ^^ All the stories in cyberpunk are very emotional and the music is just so fitting every time.
i think this is one of the best anime i have seen in quite a while, the ending is sad but great.... this is the type of anime i have been waitng for.
You two are so sweet, I love your reactions so much 😆
"I'm not okay... I'm sorry "
Same 🥺
Again the tears. It was so good. Loved your reaction. In the game when I found David’s jacket and Rebecca’s gun, I got all teary eyed again. Definitely a game to think about playing.
This episode made me cry too, then the song ended up on my Spotify wrapped top 5 the next year. Rip Becca
You’ve officially been broken by this show like the rest of us
the game is like 2 years after all of this happened and you can even find rebeccas shotgun in game in the middle of the city close to where she died
David’s dream was for Lucy to get out of NC and to the moon and be safe, his dream came true it just cost him everything. Worth it.
How the show wraps up is literally just essence of what the cyberpunk game/series/universe is all about. And unfortunately that message is “Nothing good happens in Night city”
Good things happen, here and there
But it never have a happy ending
@@in_ravelI see it differently. Good things can happen anywhere despite any circumstance. But not without pain and suffering to boot. Especially in night city
I always amazed by anime that just has 10-12 eps but can make you cry
"Why are they playing this song?". Easy, to wound you on a spiritual level.
I feel like Davids story just goes to show you how special the main character of the video game is. I think Lucy even talks to the video game character so if they link up V is strong enough to keep Lucy safe but i think Lucy moved on to live a Low key life while stayig in tune with the Hell V raises in night city.
I loved your guy's reactions! I hope you enjoyed the story and always remember, no one has a happy ending in night city. Goes for the crew even David.
Wrong city, wrong people."
I really hope you two try out the game sometime.
Emotional damage all over again. Great reactions. Thanks for sharing them. Now for the Let You Down MV!
What a wholesome ending ! Just how I expected the show to end !
If anyone wasn't mentioned it, the music video "Let Me Down" is sort of a prequel to Maines crew before David joins.
There is a character in the game who once asked, if they want to go out the "quiet life ? or blaze of glory?". and it just solidifies that in night city, you are just a spec of dust in the sea of people. nothing you do would make an impact. So the best thing to do is to choose how you wanted to go out.
This episode really showed why Falco was on the team. My dude is a top notch wheelman.
This is by far the most emotional show in decades, it's so incredibly painful and hearing that song made me tear up for weeks after
There is a line you cross when you realize that this is going to be a one way trip.
Same with attack on titan.
just in case no one mentioned it before, this was 'Anime of the Year 2023' on Crunchyroll Anime Awards... and one of the best English Dubs too.
A small cherry on top of this show is a short story told as a music video, animated by the same studio.
"Let You Down" by Dawid Podsiadło.
I Really Wanna Stay At Your House plays all the time on the radio in the game, and it hit sooooo different after Edgerunners came out.
that song makes me cry every time now
There are no happy endings in Night City. Now go play the game, read the books, and check out the comics!
If yall do end up playing the game, remember that Adamsmasher told david hed make an interesting "construct". That plays a huge part in the game and in Davids case its a really cool thought
This was the best reaction for this show ive ever seen lmao, yall are great
The point was: "you don't make a name as a cyberpunk by how you live, you're remembered by how you die."
David became a real legend.
Rebecca is the GOAT of this show
When the girl in the green shirt actually starts crying, its actually emotional haha
15:00 Agreed...... but there was a little too much red in this episode. ☹️
I remember crying multiple times during that last episode.
To be fair, in the world of Night City, Lucy had the happiest ending anyone could possibly get.
Playing the game and having the song start playing at random times is absolutely brutal.
There was every need for all of it, the whole show is the essence of of what Cyberpunk is. It’s the wrong city and the wrong people for happy endings
Definitely recommend watching ending theme song "Let you down" on Cyberpunk yt channel.. maybe some game trailers if you want more of this world (the game is good too).
They basically copy-pasted all the loactions from the game into the anime.

Really enjoy y’all’s reactions and when I saw edgerunners I knew this episode was coming so it finally being reacted to was very bittersweet!
Before the show, the song was a catchy pop song that would come on the radio now and then.
After the show, instant PTSD.
