Out of all the characters, Rebecca's death broke me the most. She was literally the ultimate ride-or-die. She put everything she wanted to one side, and gave her life for the people she cared about, even putting her love for david aside because she respected his love for Lucy.

This show did SUCH a better job making Adam Smasher the epic antagonist he should have been in the game. Honestly, had the show come out like a week before the game, I feel the game's universe would have felt so much more impactful than it initially felt.
Agreed. Edgerunners portrayed Smasher pretty faithfully to lore, while the game took a pretty good amount of liberties with it. Still liked Smasher in the game, but just because he is an antagonist doesn't mean V had to kill him either.

V is supposed to be stronger than Adam at that point. Unlike David, V is like Adam, canonically special. Meaning that they can implement as much cyberware as they want without them going cyberpsycho. By the end of the game V is supposed to be one of the biggest Night City legends ever.
Its tough to make Adam Smasher that powerful in the game, gotta make it easy for anyone to be able to progress in the game. lol What they should have done is made him show up in different parts of the game as if he is hunting you down and finding you. He should have been a boss fight in several main (and even side) missions and have him progressively get more difficult to beat.

There are no happy endings in Night City, the best you can achieve is to become a legend. David is a legend now and will live on in Night City lore forever, even has a drink named after him in the edgerunner bar The Afterlife.

People think the ending is a sad ending. But look at David's face before he died. He didn't look sad or had any regret. He looked like as if he had lived his life to the fullest.
That's literally an ending (or rather the entire story) typical for polish novels from the 19th century (romanticism). It doesn't really matter what the audience considers a tragic or happy ending, because the character decides for the audience what's tragic or good. And as you said even tho the audience perceives the ending as tragic for the character in question - David - as weird as it may sound, its actually a happy ending. No surprise here. After all the story is written by a Pole in a typical really dark polish manner which is probably why everyone loves Edgerunners so much. Its just so different from what we get normally.
I really was in denial the last 5 episodes. I was not used to this type of story, I waited 'till the end the moment when he overcome the enemy and it ends well but I waited a very long time... I'm still waiting them to say that it's a joke and he survived
I had a bad hunch since David started to spiral with psychosis but even during the last ep I was hoping they were gonna pull up at least but then I went "oh" and cried myself to sleep 🚶🏼

And in the end all of this was Davids fault, he had many chances to leave Night City with Lucy in between the time jump of episode 6 and 7 but instead he stayed to try and become a Legend, which he succeeded in. Its confirmed that this is the only Season for Edgerunners, but in the game there is a DLC coming called Phantom Liberty which I think Lucy will appear in because there is a character called Songbird in it but I cant confirm this.

Watched Edgerunners first and played then 2077... Feeling with ya. I shed a tear everytime i hear "I really wanna stay at your House" when it comes up in the Body Heat Radio Frequence.
I just binged your reactions to this series, and it was a journey following your progress through. This last episode definitely hits me in the feels every time too. If you want an anime to watch that is mostly upbeat, I recommend Symphogear. 5 seasons, 13 episodes each, with between season OVAs. It has some moments that hit you in the feels too, but nothing like this.

This episode hit me deep in the feels and for 3 days after I was searching for a relatible reaction. I guess what I'm saying is...thank you for your honesty, I felt that isht too.
To reopen the wound after so long: in the latest Cyberpunk 2077 update, where if you head on over to North Oak in Westbrook once you get to Night City, you could end up stumbling across a touching memorial to all the gang. And the one that belonged to David says "You didn't take me to the moon, but you were there with me."
It's sad and hard to not see David in the moon with Lucy, but remember, that was HER dream and the sad part is that he didn't have a dream before (conversation with his mother) but he helped Lucy achieve her dream but also his mother, to see him at the top of the tower... it was at that moment that he knew, he can face his mom again knowing he did everything he could in the hell city.
in the end, David got to fulfill his promise that he made to his mom; he made it to the top of Arisaka Tower, and in doing so became a legend in Night City.

the 2nd season is basically the game. this anime is a good prequal to the game as well for anyone that wants more story of the world of cyberpunk and they just got into it from starting edgerunners before knowing or playing the game
I feel like Lucy took her helmet off at the end, Kiwi is a traitor, but you have to see it as Night City traumatizes and breaks everyone and makes them not trust each other, Kiwi didn't realize the family she got because of the brutality of night city clouds all perspective. It pretty much was a limited series so no more, though Adam Smasher did say he would make an interesting construct which is a secret archive of digitized. In the game of Cyberpunk 2077 you can avenge David and Becca :) A lot of symbolism like the moon in the sky with Lucy and David. Lucy was David Moon, and he was the Sun, and with Maine and Dorio it is like alternative what if symbolism of Lucy and David. She did manage to bring him back and stop him from just being a blood drunk monster that couldn't tell between friend or foe like Maine ended up.
It's a tragedy set in the unforgiving Night City. It's amazing how the show achieves immersion to a point where we forget that Night City is the true enemy, a place where no happy endings can exist, where what we should care about is deeply twisted and a place where a vending machine gives you the ashes of the person you love the most in the world with a souless machine voice while no one bats an eye. Even if we know that it can't end well, the tale of Lucy x David is what gives this show its masterpiece status. They feel like real people in this merciless environment and they are there for each other. It can be summed up in ''Her dream became more important to him than his life, and his life became more important to her than her dream''. It breaks your heart and makes you wish they had a different ending, one they deserved. But in the game there is a quote that resonates with every story set in NC, ''A happy ending? For folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people'' A heartbreaking detail, when Lucy is on the shuttle in the moon the announcer says ''Experience the moon like no braindance can simulate'' hinting at the fact that Lucy was truly happy with David in that moment during the braindance and her dream falls short in comparison once again showing us that all she wanted was for him to live and to experience it together. Tragedies hurt a lot and this one packed a punch but they make us cherish what's beautiful in our lives. IMO

I was surprised at how much it made me feel for these characters and the story and how much they pulled from the game itself. It made me want to run around Night City again with a new perspective.

Im surprised no one ever makes this reference but its like experiencing a bd but in our time emotional wise. Without hat ending you would've never had yr emotions heightened and had a scar left on your soul. Love you're tattoos and fun fact, because lucy and David did a bp on the moon she can display the image of David on the actual moon. Explaining why he's younger when She see's him. She can display that whenever she wants. But her dream wont ever actually come true, it was for David to live and be there with her.
It’s gonna be an anthology series if they do make a new season, new characters new story, but as far as we know right now Trigger studios has no further plans for edgerunners
I just want to know what happens to Lucy after.. how does she cope? Will she be okay? How does she live out the rest of her life? 😢 Also, seeing how her original dream was to get to the moon because that’s where she thought she’d be the safest.. but later finding it was with David where she felt safe.. and then David dying.. dang it man.
After seeing David she moves her arms out like she is welcoming the new phase of her life.. I'd take it as she is doing fine but that's just so I can cope with the depression this anime has laid on me 😢
I hope they don't... This show is a labour of love and they delivered. Any follow up shows will have the same general plot... Cyberpunks have to run in with arisaka and blow up their hq... Seems overdone by the game and this anime, unless they find a fresh city or faction to cover
i think a person's reaction to this show can tell you a lot about their life. this was my life when i was a teenager growing up in the 90's and 2000's in so cal, or at least our worlds example of it. i made it out obviously but looking back it wasn't because i was trying to. i'm sure there's plenty of other experiences people could have that would also lead to them being moved, i just know you couldn't have lived the life i did and not be brought to tears, it's not humanly possible.
I watched the first couple episodes and thought oh this is gonna be fun and then I noticed in the credits it was made by studio trigger... I knew what was coming.
Happy endings? Everyone say they deserve happy endings, and I quote Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) from the Cyberpunk game each time: "Happy endings, for folks like us? Wrong city. Wrong people."
That's the world of Cyberpunk for you. Any happy ending is very bittersweet. The world has gone to shit in terms of a corporate controlled dystopia. Either you live as a nobody and don't amount to anything by apathy and inaction or you pursue that blaze of glory to leave a mark in the world as a Rebel going against the system, Which will only ever taste bittersweet. That is what makes cyberpunk amazing and thought-provoking.
I just finished the show today and had a similar reaction omfg. I try to find the reason why they always choose tragedy for Cyberpunk and what i think the whole story conveyed perfectly is that we should all hold onto our emotions or we'll become robots who think in the binary good vs bad. This is already happening in the form of cellphones, they already have a psychological effect on us. This is sort of what Ghost in the Shell tried to do too but I found it ambiguous until I watched commentary

It's sad and hard to not see David in the moon with Lucy, but remember, that was HER dream and the sad part is that he didn't have a dream before (conversation with his mother) but he helped Lucy achieve her dream but also his mother, to see him at the top of the tower... it was at that moment that he knew, he can face his mom again knowing he did everything he could in the hell city.
in the end, David got to fulfill his promise that he made to his mom; he made it to the top of Arisaka Tower, and in doing so became a legend in Night City.
"Would you rather live in peace as Mr. Nobody, die ripe, old and smelling slightly of urine? Or go down for all times in a blaze of glory, smelling near like posies, without seeing your thirtieth?"
the 2nd season is basically the game. this anime is a good prequal to the game as well for anyone that wants more story of the world of cyberpunk and they just got into it from starting edgerunners before knowing or playing the game
I feel like Lucy took her helmet off at the end, Kiwi is a traitor, but you have to see it as Night City traumatizes and breaks everyone and makes them not trust each other, Kiwi didn't realize the family she got because of the brutality of night city clouds all perspective. It pretty much was a limited series so no more, though Adam Smasher did say he would make an interesting construct which is a secret archive of digitized. In the game of Cyberpunk 2077 you can avenge David and Becca :)
A lot of symbolism like the moon in the sky with Lucy and David. Lucy was David Moon, and he was the Sun, and with Maine and Dorio it is like alternative what if symbolism of Lucy and David. She did manage to bring him back and stop him from just being a blood drunk monster that couldn't tell between friend or foe like Maine ended up.
It's a tragedy set in the unforgiving Night City. It's amazing how the show achieves immersion to a point where we forget that Night City is the true enemy, a place where no happy endings can exist, where what we should care about is deeply twisted and a place where a vending machine gives you the ashes of the person you love the most in the world with a souless machine voice while no one bats an eye.
Even if we know that it can't end well, the tale of Lucy x David is what gives this show its masterpiece status. They feel like real people in this merciless environment and they are there for each other. It can be summed up in ''Her dream became more important to him than his life, and his life became more important to her than her dream''. It breaks your heart and makes you wish they had a different ending, one they deserved. But in the game there is a quote that resonates with every story set in NC, ''A happy ending? For folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people''
A heartbreaking detail, when Lucy is on the shuttle in the moon the announcer says ''Experience the moon like no braindance can simulate'' hinting at the fact that Lucy was truly happy with David in that moment during the braindance and her dream falls short in comparison once again showing us that all she wanted was for him to live and to experience it together.
Tragedies hurt a lot and this one packed a punch but they make us cherish what's beautiful in our lives. IMO

Great video. Thank you for posting 😊Unfortunately, there are no happy endings in Night City. It’s very fitting, for people who have played the game. I was surprised at how much it made me feel for these characters and the story and how much they pulled from the game itself. It made me want to run around Night City again with a new perspective.

Im surprised no one ever makes this reference but its like experiencing a bd but in our time emotional wise. Without hat ending you would've never had yr emotions heightened and had a scar left on your soul. Love you're tattoos and fun fact, because lucy and David did a bp on the moon she can display the image of David on the actual moon. Explaining why he's younger when She see's him. She can display that whenever she wants. But her dream wont ever actually come true, it was for David to live and be there with her.

It’s gonna be an anthology series if they do make a new season, new characters new story, but as far as we know right now Trigger studios has no further plans for edgerunners

Also, seeing how her original dream was to get to the moon because that’s where she thought she’d be the safest.. but later finding it was with David where she felt safe.. and then David dying.. dang it man.
After seeing David she moves her arms out like she is welcoming the new phase of her life.. I'd take it as she is doing fine but that's just so I can cope with the depression this anime has laid on me 😢

If they did a season 2 it would probably with a brand new story and cast.
I hope they don't... This show is a labour of love and they delivered. Any follow up shows will have the same general plot... Cyberpunks have to run in with arisaka and blow up their hq... Seems overdone by the game and this anime, unless they find a fresh city or faction to cover

i think a person's reaction to this show can tell you a lot about their life. this was my life when i was a teenager growing up in the 90's and 2000's in so cal, or at least our worlds example of it. i made it out obviously but looking back it wasn't because i was trying to. i'm sure there's plenty of other experiences people could have that would also lead to them being moved, i just know you couldn't have lived the life i did and not be brought to tears, it's not humanly possible.

The writer makes us love the character and kills them off to make us realize how much we love them.

I watched the first couple episodes and thought oh this is gonna be fun and then I noticed in the credits it was made by studio trigger... I knew what was coming.
Happy endings? Everyone say they deserve happy endings, and I quote Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) from the Cyberpunk game each time:
"Happy endings, for folks like us? Wrong city. Wrong people."
It hurts because fulllfilling dreams without family or friends is hollow
That's the world of Cyberpunk for you. Any happy ending is very bittersweet. The world has gone to shit in terms of a corporate controlled dystopia. Either you live as a nobody and don't amount to anything by apathy and inaction or you pursue that blaze of glory to leave a mark in the world as a Rebel going against the system, Which will only ever taste bittersweet. That is what makes cyberpunk amazing and thought-provoking.
I just finished the show today and had a similar reaction omfg. I try to find the reason why they always choose tragedy for Cyberpunk and what i think the whole story conveyed perfectly is that we should all hold onto our emotions or we'll become robots who think in the binary good vs bad. This is already happening in the form of cellphones, they already have a psychological effect on us. This is sort of what Ghost in the Shell tried to do too but I found it ambiguous until I watched commentary

This was the first show ever to make me cry. I became so attached to all of the characters and felt so empty with the ending. I loved it.
Thats the life in nightcity. nothing ever lasts besides corporations.
This show messed me up so much...David was going crazy after he put that on made me go back and beat the game and the song they always play in this show makes me and my friend cry cause we lost two friends...
