    YES!! A 32 year old friend was just rushed to the hospital with convulsions they discovered type 2 diabetes. He's been vegan for ten years but eats unhealthy vegan food - candy every day while working, lots of oil, it's crazy. It seems like many vegans don't want to kill animals but they don't mind killing themselves. YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT! Thank you 😊

    • @ChoosingMyHealth

      So sorry to hear about your friend. I pray he has a speedy recovery and that his days to come are filled with health and vitality. You’re so right Greg! Sobering observation. Let’s keep pursuing good health!

      Plant based doesn't mean vegan. You can be plant based and still eat animal products. Plant based means eating mostly plant foods. It could be 45% meat products, and 55% plants.
      Also, not all oil is bad.

    I was vegetarian for about 45 years (yeah I said 45) I'm now 70. and vegan for the last 10 years. Cheese was definitely the biggest challenge. I knew it would be and did research on best cheese alternative brands, making my own cheese sauce etc. By the time I made the leap to veganism I was ready and have never looked back. I use cheese slices and shreds sparingly, and make my own nacho style sauce, which is darn good. I'm with you about the oil, use next to none at home, but I don't stress too much when eating out. My sweeteners of choice are dates and maple syrup. My weight is effortlessly down. I love this eating choice!!

    TreeLine cheese can be hard to find and it's not cheap, but it is hands-down the absolute *best* spreadable cheese out there both in texture and flavor imo. SO amazing. Miyoko and Kite Hill, yes, also very good.

      Just be careful because anything in a package means processed which can be very unhealthy. For cheesy, look for recipes including nutritional yeast blended with other natural items like silky tofu, cashews, avocados etc. it wont be cheese slices but it’ll taste good and possibly be even more healthy.

    I am a new plant based person still figuring things out (former calories and macros counter) so I thank you so much for your time, information and beautiful energy. I’m type 1 diabetes, insulin dependent on an insulin pump so I’ve been a decent, conscious eater (not much sugar, no dairy, no cheese). I am truly appreciating the beans (love split peas, lentils, soybeans, garbanzo etc) but for grams of protein in beans and such are equal grams of carbs…CRAZY! When I look at the macros at the end of a day, I’m eating carbs and fat with only 10% protein. Beans that provide let’s say 10g of proteins also are 10 or more grams of carbs. Is that still good for the body’s protein needs? Thank you for all that you’re doing!

    • @ChoosingMyHealth
      @ChoosingMyHealth  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey hey! Welcome to the plant-based lifestyle. I totally see your concern. Foods high in fiber and nutrients can actually boost your metabolism, helping your body actually absorb protein and burn calories more efficiently, while also enhancing your overall energy. Personally, I’ve found freedom in not counting calories and focusing on a variety of nutrient-dense foods, and I’ve actually maintained stability in my weight, am meeting my protein needs, but ultimately, it’s all about what works best for you 💜

    between meant and cheese..hmmm. both lol. I absolutely love both but I'm trying to take small steps toward eating less meat and less dairy. I've heard so many times that the diet for someone who struggles with hypothyroidism is a vegan diet. I'm going to aim for less vs 100% and see where that takes me. The bean thing is a big problem. I know youre supposed to have some sort of protein, but being clueless in this regard the last 2 days ive been so hungry that ive gone off the bandwagon and eaten a huge bag of crisps (potato chips), some nuts😢 and 3 Magnum ice lollies. 🤦 Definitely NOT Choosing My Health! 😢 So if you could give me some suggestions please, or even make a vid on it, 🤗 that would be MUCH appreciated. I looked at miyokos cheese at the store and I'm wondering what makes that on the healthy side for store bought plant based cheese over other brands? It has more saturated fat than actual cheese and it's high in sodium, so I'm wondering if there was some other health benefits compared to other brands?

    • @ChoosingMyHealth
      @ChoosingMyHealth  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Shalyse! There are tons of Miyoko’s cheeses to choose from, so I’m not sure which one you’re referring to. However, I like to stick with the least amount of ingredients as possible and I’ve found them to have a few options with recognizable plant-based ingredients for the vegan newbie. While I personally prefer making my own plant-based cheese, this may be an option for someone trying to go vegan and looking for an alternative. Of course, all things in moderation.

    I've been a vegetarian for many years (using vegetarian products), but trying to do plant based cheese is a struggle! I've found a few nice tasting recipes for cheesy dishes, but still struggling to find a firm cheddar recipe that can be grated. I will check out your cheese recipes.
    I'm struggling with making my own milks (oat & rice blend) as I don't have a very powerful blender - will keep trying though. I have thought of using coconut cream to make milk - can you make buttermilk & yoghurt from coconut milk?
    I'm on a strict budget so I only use nuts for special occassions. Nuts also carry a heavy water usage burden that damages the environment.
    I need to find recipes using mostly beans & lentils, and the cheaper veggies. I simply can't live witbout my peas...
    Store bought tofu is too expensive for me, but I have seen tofu recipes using beans (eg chickpeas).
    Mushrooms can also be quite expensive so I look out for specials, make a basic ragu and freeze it.
    Breads & flatbreads I make myself. I'm also going to start making my own pasta as that's gotten quite expensive lately.
    Spices only bloom in oil, so I was thinking of using a little oil & marg to start the cooking process. Oil is also quite expensive so I do need to use less.
    Thanks for the suggestions re salt alternatives. I do make my own apple cider vinegar so I might try adding a teaspoon for saltiness?
    I do enjoy baking. Thanks for the tips re sugar substitutes. I think I will try the date mush, banana mush & apple sauce alternatives (you can buy these fruits individually).

    • @ChoosingMyHealth
      @ChoosingMyHealth  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey hey! Try 1 cup of coconut milk to 1 tablespoon of lemon juice for buttermilk. And perhaps try toasting your spices if you’d like to try blooming without oil. You seem like you’re on the right track and are definitely putting in the work! It will pay off, and I hope this channel blesses you on the journey 💜

    I only do whole foods, non-white rice, only wheat based flour for bread, corn/rice pasta, no nuts, no dairy, no meat, no fish/seafood. It's a great way to lose 23 pounds in 21 days ;) and it forced me to getting back to more cooking from scratch; which is best anyway. In another few months I'll get a cholesterol test and find out what 6 months of sticking to this diet affected in my vascular system. I'm doing whatever need be, diet wise, to stay away from pharmaceuticals and all the side effects that go along with them. Now if I could just trust that my supposed organic foods actually are devoid of anything chemically toxic.
