I am a retired emergency department registered nurse. I also had a heart attack at 61. I am now 66. I am constantly seeking out new research and watch hundreds upon hundreds of videos with subjects like ketogenesis, atophagy, decreasing the amount of processed carbohydrates and sugars, fully research the old paradigms regarding cholesterol, have stopped my statins, have gotten away from the SAD diet... and continue to research. I am convinced at this time that I know more than my cardiologists and my primary care physician who all refused to change their belief systems regarding the old paradigms. Trying to find a new cardiologist that isn't stuck in the Dark Ages with the old paradigms has been futile. So at this point I've learned to take care of myself and do what I believe is correct from all the research that I've done. I keep my cardiologists just so that I can schedule an echocardiogram every now and then and get an EKG. This is an example of the sad state of our Healthcare System.

I don't do retirement im still doing 6 and sometimes 7 days at 8 to 12 hrs a day. Heart attack same as you 61.Statins in the bin all other junk in the bin low carb diet, in 6 weeks 45lbs loss arthritis 60 percent improvement energy obviously good. The problem with blood tests and mineral etc tests is they're evaluated by people 20yrs in the past😊

@@ozzyboy290 Hi Sally. There is a TON of new research on the internet (I might suggest for starters podcasts from Dr. Berg and/or Dr. Ekberg...there are countless others) and find their podcasts regarding cholesterol. What I have learned is that cholesterol is not the enemy... I have learned so much. I have stopped my statins because statins do lower cholesterol, but cholesterol, even low-density lipoprotein cholesterol is needed by the brain, by the entire body, it is a necessary hormone for the body to function. Sugar and processed carbohydrates which quickly turn into sugar are the Real Enemy. Cholesterol is found in arteries because it goes in to heal the bleeding sites that are lesions caused by sugar. Cholesterol seals up bleeding lesions in arteries caused by these sugars. I have now watched hundreds upon hundreds of hours regarding the myth of cholesterol and the myths of statins.

January 2022 - Started Keto + OMAD + walked 8 miles every other day + drink 3 liters of filtered water daily infused with Dr. Berg’s Electrolyte powder = October 2022 - Lost 50 lbs, best blood test results ever and stopped 7 meds guided by doctor. My grandfather was a physician, Internist and heart specialist. He was in charge of the Army hospitals in France in WWII. The rest of his life he went to Walter Reed hospital at least once a year. For generations our family ate healthy food and my grandfather was no exceptions. He had a big garden every summer. When he was old he had his beet garden. Best beet greens you can imagine. My mother had no sweets in the house and I followed with my daughter. My point is back in the day 1886-1972 doctors knew how important food was.
Then in the 60's the hippies were all about eating healthy. We experienced new ways to eat even more healthy than our parents. The food industry followed. Then the low fat no fat stuff that everyone got fat on. So now all this sugar stuff. Have a piece of dark chocolate after dinner for your heart. I wish I knew that one decades ago💕🙏
Thank you for your excellent information‼️💪

I have depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia, chronic insomnia and now a pinched nerve in my neck. Probably had anxiety all my life, diagnosed with depression at 54 after going to doctor with what I thought was stress due to having to deal with a mother who has all traits of narcissistic personality disorder. I manage my conditions with a low dose antidepressant, a sedative to help me sleep, I also take a multivitamin b and now magnesium. I try to eat as healthy as possible and do some exercise. I’m 67 now and mother is 90, have been on antidepressants for 11 years and a sedative for 8. I believe my conditions were caused by my NPD mother so what do I do in my case, I have had some counselling but still having to deal with my toxic family.

I also have a NPD mother but I left her home at age 18. I still see her once a month now days but I tried to minimize her influence to me and my kids. I still remember that she would cry and beg when I left home. It was harsh, but I still managed to leave because I know that she would drag me to hell with her if I stay with her any longer. I also realised there was something wrong with her but didn’t get the diagnosis bi proxy from first Counselor I saw, at age 56. She’s 91 now and my 2 brothers have nothing to do with her and me. I’m all she has to help her with anything bc everything has gone online. I think, fingers crossed, I have finally been able to not get mad at her when she’s nasty. Exhaustive research has led to a rock solid, valid observation. That is, the very best doctors are the ones who researched their own life- threatening conditions, and cured themselves. They are cutting edge--not driven by big pharma. They fully understand the body. Finally, and very important, they are humble truth seekers. Once they figure things out, they want to share their knowledge for everyone's benefit. Cleveland Clinic Functional Medicine Department, which I have been to, is very fortunate to have Dr Hyman as Director. In modern society, it is IMPOSSIBLE to achieve good health without a common sense understanding of the role of Functional Medicine.

5 most improtant suggestions for us:
    1. Learn about how your brain works, what helps it thrive, and what damages it. Systematically reduce or eliminate things that damage your brain and add in things that help it.
    2. Avoid sugar, starch, processed food, and prioritize a brain-healthy diet. Incorporate good fats and omega-3s.
    3. Manage stress, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep. These are fixable lifestyle factors that can positively impact your brain health.
    4. Understand the threats to your brain by assessing your lifestyle choices and making necessary changes. This understanding can lead to the reversal of certain conditions and improved brain function.
    5. Prioritize brain health alongside other aspects of overall health, such as weight management and heart health. Specific strategies can be implemented to support brain health.

I’ve been dealing with those severe bloating and gas symptoms you mention for YEARS. Also crippling fatigue, brain fog, POTS, Hashimoto’s, and a newly discovered gluten intolerance.
I swear that food sensitivity test I took last month was the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Beginning of this month I cut 100% of gluten out of my diet, and that seemed to prime my brain for a big lifestyle change. Last week I also decided to cut out all added sugar, and a few days ago I cut out all sweeteners. And while it feels overwhelming and confusing, I’m also super excited. So far I think I’m still detoxing from all that crap. My gas and bloating is worse, and I’m getting a lot of nausea and headaches. But I know that it’s gonna start getting SO much better over the coming months.
My naturopath also just started me on a spore based probiotic last week, and I’m eager to see how that helps.

My first meal of the day around noon is a smoothie with ten cups of veggies and fruits and ice. No dairy. My food sensitivity tests showed levels of intolerance for wheat, shrimp, almonds, dairy, and egg whites. Lost 20 lbs without trying or exercising hardly at all. Get your microbiome straight first . This is one of the best interviews between Dr Mark Hyman & Dhru Purohit I've watched. It gets to the root of the meaning and benefits of functional medicine. I have struggled with brain fog for several years ~ my thought processes over this time have been less acute, and it has felt like wading through mud (maybe it should be reclassified as 'brain mud'!). I've had brain scans & blood tests and nothing abnormal has been detected apart from 'pre-diabetes' which I am addressing through improved diet. Even when blood sugars are normalized, the brain fog persists. I need to find alternative diagnosis/treatment pathways to what's on offer from traditional medicine here in the UK, as it's simply not working. Thanks gentlemen ~ you've opened up more options.

Hi Joanna, like yourself, I live in the uk, and unfortunately also experience brain mud, amongst other things! I am trying to address this and definitely find B12 mouth spray a helpful tool (available at Holland & Barrett) I have a long way to go and very hard to find a Dr with this level of understanding, with regard to inflammation which I think maybe at the route of my problems. As my mother suffered from dementia in old age, I particularly want to take steps to avoid this possibility if I can. I wish you well and would be very interested to hear of any success you have. I have terrible brain fog. I’ve never had diabetes, pre diabetes, or even a hint of an abnormal glucose test. However I started packing on abdominal weight and have a list of symptoms. So I tried Keto and the brain fog is noticeably better. It makes me think I have insulin intolerance even though I’m not pre diabetic. I take a lot of supplements and do various things to try and lessen my various symptoms. But maybe you should try Keto for a little while to see if you notice any difference. I think Keto, high doses of vitamin D, enough water, walking, avocado oil, sunshine, and grounding are the things that help me the most with brain fog. Oh and I take a supplement to balance cortisol and melatonin at bedtime.

I knew fried food isn’t healthy but I really didn’t want to get a colonoscopy so I eliminated the only bad thing I was eating . ( already off wheat and dairy and almost all refined sugar ) . I completely underestimated the damage it was doing with consistent consumption . Unhealthy oils are soooo inflammatory! The 2 fast food places I frequented both use peanut oil . Im not sure if that one is in particularly problematic for me but I’ve had such a dramatic improvement I don’t want to try any other fryer oils . Not worth it !

This should be the first in a deeper dive into the solution Strategy. Connecting the dots between industry, Pharma and healthcare illustrates how unbelievably systemic this is. If you demonize these three groups you have just about removed all sources of funding for politicians ☹️. Great Job by James Lee in laying this out. Pushing back on Pharma & vaccinations illustrated the the fight we are in store for if we shine a bright light on BigFood, Healthcare (add in insurance and other captured industry segments). It saddens me when health care folks demonstrate a condescending attitude about peoples "choices". Yes we have choices but the doctors and nurses are all but useless in assisting with good choices. Free will is not absolute nor unaffected by outside nefarious influences on biochemistry. In North America, for instance, wheat products are sprayed with cyanide form of b12. This contributes to sugar cravings because not everyone can detox cyanide well and sugar is a mitigating factor in cyanide detox. Which becomes a vicious circle, craving more sweets and eating more cyanide laced pastries and craving more sweets. This may be great for Big Food and Big Pharma economy and the pocketbooks of pretentious healthcare people but helps none of the patients these criticize. People can't fight biochemistry. As a nurse you should know this, otherwise I guess you've made a lifestyle choice to remain blind to the political realities of this world and how shady it is about defrauding people in their choices. Education is far more uplifting than pretentious attitudes about "choices" where the effects of poisonous political decisions made to promote the economy are not known or understood even by the pretentious doctors, and nurses, themselves. It's a sign of a compassion fatigued professional when they start blaming the patient for things that are systemically broken societally in the north american region of the world.

I had mercury poisoning as well. I still have no idea how. I was so dysfunctional I didn’t want to continue to live like that. My ability to function was reduced to about 20%. It ruined my career, my health and made me so depressed.
I was referred to see a functional medicine doctor vs my physician who never tested me for anything … and only than - after a battery of questionaries and tests - we could get a glimpse on why all the sudden I went from type A highly functioning person to a zombie. I did assisted detoxing, switched diet, took probiotics, and treated some issues like overgrowth of bad bacteria and fungi in my system - I regained mental clarity and my energy increased within just few weeks. I did a lot of things over the course of two years to get better.

Love the video. Every couple of months I switch from keto to carnivore and visa versa. It's because I'm unsure which is healthier. The carnivore doctors say, " Plants are poison". The keto doctors say, "We must have plants". No matter how much research I do I'm still not sure. Anyone?

Some parts of what to do for the brain - exercise - there are many illnesses and physical maladies that will stop vital exercise...
Stress is usually caused by other people in your life ... generally... and often uncontrollable.
Food is the one brain requirement that most of us can follow and become better on!!
    Do what you can ...

Interesting❗ I thought the brain controls the body. But it's apparent that the body does control the brain with good nutrition. Thanks. Stress is what I'm dealing with=HBP. Lupus plus actually the worse case of Fibromyalgia in the world 38 years now. I keep trying without Opioids. It's rough but I'm tough.💪 I got my Lupus in remission years ago and it's back. After my Cardiomyopathy ten years ago I mentally made my 💗 go back to normal. So now I'm going to concentrate on my nutrition and exercises I'm able to do. I'm 75 and have to get my brain better than ever. What do you think about Prevagen⁉️ I love your story of how you sought out more than what Medical School taught you and how you keep relative💕🙏 It helps us tremendously‼️

Just discovered this wonderful physician and his podcast. Great to see a doctor on TH-cam grounded in medical science rather than some of the characters providing nutritional advice. Two questions. You mention starch contributing to inflammation and poor brain health, but aren't whole grains and starchy vegetables like beans and lentils a critical element of heart and brain health? Also, there is so much compelling research on saturated fat being the leading cause of high serum cholesterol, atherosclerosis and neurodegenerative disease. Surprised to see the hall pass on saturated fat, but open to hearing your insights.

Thanks for this interview and presentation.
Have you considered the possibility that brain health, at least for many people, could, at least in part, be maintained or even restored by the cautious use of vitamin B supplements or more foods rich in vitamin B, such as nutritional yeast and bee pollen?
Dr. Abram Hoffer, among others, published much on this subject.
You answered this question at the end, thanks.

This guy knows more than most doctors albeit caffeine doesn't deplete adenosine it blocks the adenosine receptors and thus builds up adenosine that eventually when caffeine no longer is bound then adenosine surges their receptors causing a crash a tired response..
Mark is the man and a brilliant show ❤
