Just stumbled across your videos, looking to coach my 7 year old who has stepped up a few divisions. Your counting steps is such a simple idea but never even thought of it, he struggles with low shots so we need to work on his set position but thanks for the advice!
My 8year old son turned out to be a natural at goalkeeping amongst all the positions that’s the one he excelled at. At first I thought it was a let down until I realized most games were literally decided by his ability to stop the other team from scoring. Goalkeeping is a very specific talent.
Just back into playing after 10+ year’s and great that you are teaching the two main fundamentals good footwork and good handling good footwork will make your game some much better and easier
I played in goal for 16 years, academy level youth at professional clubs in uk and semi professional after that until I got injured. That's the first time I've ever seen/heard the counting steps drill across the goal line and it's brilliant!! I'm 42 now and my 9 and 5 year old boys want to be keepers so I'm going to be coaching them and I'm definitely going to use that drill along with some of your others. There's a lot i remember which you also do so I'll be using that as well. Great video thanks 👍🏻
Never been a keeper, but I’m learning and trying to teach my 13 yr old daughter. This is her first yr as full time keeper in a competitive league. Wish us luck and thank you for sharing your knowledge
Keep up the great work been watching your videos and teaching my son for the past 8 month and he is now in his first cup final this Sunday. Thankyou so much
A much needed video on one of these goalkeeper channels would be teaching dads who didn't play soccer easy and simple ways to strike the ball with pace and consistency. My biggest problem when training my son is I cant put the ball in the same place consistently during our training sessions.
This is great stuff. I've been looking for videos that talk about the basic fundamentals to help my son who is just getting started with goalkeeping. This video is the best I've come across. Thanks for sharing. We have subscribed and look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Great video my friend you've helped me in training my daughter now she has a golie trainer and he does some of the drills you show on this video so that helps to verify shes getting the right fundamental training
Really enjoyed the vid, I am a college level keeper and I have been helping develop some younger keepers and these drills and tips helped a lot in planning sessions.
@@hugothornton8722 I personally save many shots from my legs especially during 1v1s because I'm 6,3. If your tall it's sometimes difficult to get that low that quick
@@krishaangdeep5689 Im 6'2 and I often come across with the same problems, but readjusting your set position makes it easier to get down quicker, as keeping the ball is safer then it bouncing agaisnt your legs or feet. 1vs1 are also a different case, they aren't saves but more of a block.
@@hugothornton8722 ya... I have also been keeping my stance small to enable quick movement and so I've made a few low reflex saves here and there because of that
GT GT he can give u advise on how to jump higher but with getting a stronger goal kick, it’s mostly up to you to change your goal kick. You need to get a right technique when kicking the ball
I love playing goalkeeper, but I tend to make more saves with my legs, do you have any tips that might help going more with hands for the ball than feet and full splits to make a save? Also I appreciate this ive never been properly trained I have had to kind of figure things out myself and this video has helped me a ton so thank you!
Wow Alberto, I know this video is 2 years old, but not so long ago my friend asked me why I use my legs and feet more to save. Never had a thought about it since my coach dont give a damn about it. Turns out my legs is always faster to react when attacking the ball. Might need to work more on this I suppose
Alberto unsure if you've covered this but what is your cool down recovery process? Do you stretch a lot on off days, take ice baths etc? How many days do you personally train a week
One comment on ground shots straight at you. In the start of the video you see the goalies catching those balls in a wide stance. Isn't is better to also use your knee, like bend it inwards, to block the ball if it slips through your hands just in case. There are some videos of goalie fails where the goalkeeper let the ball slip through their legs. But dont put your knee on the ground, this makes you unable to react to deflections etc. as you are stuck on the ground with one knee.
You're talking about the low smother compared with the K stance technique, i personally teach to the low smother technique over the K technique you will see several top level keepers use both styles
In during game positioning do you prefere to bounce and set before the shot is taken or just set when the play is in your 18 box ? Couse i see u bounce in highlight vidoes but you set in matches videos without bouncing so i got confused ,please help 😃
the bounce comes out randomly for me sometimes, but I do it less in games mostly because of the energy it costs to always bounce whenever they get near the goal
Hi Alberto! First of all amazing videos dude..great tips..i need help..im 33 years old, maybe not very much in shape to perform at a high level..i need some advice about wich part of my body should training first..second problem..some time am scared to get hurt when i should dive high and sometimes i got goals for it..can you help me out!?need some tips
Facundo! Thanks for the message, first I always recommend starting with footwork and movement across goal because sometimes just being in the right position is enough to force the shot wide or straight at you, then I would recommend working on handling and collapse dives which you will do many more times than having to do those big flying diving saves. getting over the fear is something we all still have to do! I personally get over the fear of high dives by practicing jumping onto a bed or pool! I would recommend it as well !!
Would you teach the crossover step to a 9 year old, or wait until he's more developed? My concern is he also plays football, and we teach them to not use a crossover step as linemen, I'm afraid it might develop a bad habit if he can't differentiate the two.
It’s something I would consider as an advanced tactic and not something necessary for a 9 year old to think about, as the footwork improves and he/she deals with more crossed balls I would begin slowly introducing the cross step
Can we get a tutorial on predicting where the ball is going? That's probably one of my worst weaknesses I need to improve on, I near enough always go the wrong way.
Hey alberto, I don't know if you'll see this, but I have a quick question for you. I recently ordered the adidas predator pro model in a size 9, but de palm is a bit too tight as in it nearly hurts my hand. The fingers however are perfect lenght. So my question is; if I order a size 9,5 , are the fingers also bigger or only the palm?
First go to a physiotherapist and make sure you are cleared to get in goal, then start slow work up muscle by using a balancing board, PT(physical therapy) and bike riding. Then slowly get back into the game
This is a fundamental session, there are several "buts" and "ifs" in goalkeeping but attacking ball at a forward angle is literally the most important when starting to learn the position. There are specific situations that this changes but that's losing the forest for the tree.
I notice a lot of your videos u don’t use finger protection gloves. What do u do to keep your fingers strong. And do U have a video on taping and preventing finger injuries?
Good eye! I dont tape or use finger saves, simple push ups, pull ups and volley to hands work with different weighted balls. A huge favorite is using medicine balls
