    This reminds me that I still need to get a Litens/Gates OAD pulley to swap out the solid one on my vehicle. The OAD pulleys do fail sometimes but they also let the alternator freewheel faster than the engine so it slows down faster during upshifts maybe making shifts faster and less harsh with less clutch wear and of course making the belt tensioner last longer.

It might have to be a video series haha :D Keep up the great work! best rgds.

    i would get the Bergstrom solar panels as well as the two Bergstrom fans as they are heavy duty and should replace the ones you have for you and your copilot. as Doc's friends used these Bergstrom fans when the B-29 Doc was restored there is one for the pilot, copilot, flight engineer, and the left and right scanners. as the fans are 6 1/2 inch 2 speed and are either 12 or 24 volt. or you can find them used in that wrecking yard, as you should scrounge up parts there for your planned turbo conversion, get some wheels and other parts to take care of your clients.

    The old Downtown power plant....I've hauled furnace dust out of there to the landfill when it was still coal-fired. Nasty stuff, you could "roll coal" with Lenny all day long and not produce as much soot. As far as the air filter housing goes, are you planning on running a heat shield or will it be far enough from the eventual turbo where excessive heat won't be a concern?

  • @jamesshanks2614

    If I recall a 50 DN alternator on a 6-71 or 8-v71 produces 275 amps but at 24 volts. Might be interesting to see who there can build a 50 DN style alternator at 12 volts 275 amps output.
    Or simply add a second alternator to your bus, my Chrysler Sebring convertible uses a 120 amp alternator as a standard alternator and can usually be found in most junkyards. Don't know how many house batteries you have in Lenny but a minimum of 4 or preferably 6 would give you good service running one ac unit on the batteries. The alternator generally uses a poly-V belt which uses an idler you can use a 1/2 inch breaker bar to tension the belt properly. The tensioner is made out of aluminium. I'd keep the other ac unit on 120 volt power for when campground power is available.
    A gear drive alternator would be preferable to not having to constantly adjust the alternator belt. Someone must make a 50's style 12 volt alternator. Did the 3751 originally come with a generator or alternator?
    Cheers!

    Scott you need to aware of your engine cfm requirements of your engine as it is a blown 2 stroke plus you are planning to add a turbo which equals more air post your engine size & I will help you size the housing. Also each 90 degree costs air flow.

    • @markphilpott8735
      @markphilpott8735 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct regarding airflow considerations. However; a 6-71 is a mere 426 cubic inches displacement. And even though it's a two-cycle engine, with intake and combustion with every rotation of the crankshaft, his maximum no-load RPM is probably somewhere around 2400. Almost any of those filter assemblies off of a modern diesel 10 liters or larger will be more than ample for his antique bus engine. I worked on those old engines for many years, in a lot of different applications, none of the had very big or elaborate air filters on them. I think he should get one of those big chrome filters off a Pete or KW and mount it on the outside rear of the bus😉

    • @craigread179

    • @MrMauserb

      In referance to your GMC : If you are still running the original air cond compressor, the A6 you can up grade that to the new style and save lots of horsepower .... Also with your motor home you would benifite from a turbo charger installl. It really is worth looking into.

Mainly in the 80's... Installed in a Custom Cold Molded 70: Sportfish Yacht... built by the famous boatbuilding co. Pettygrew... Originally owned by William Gannet... of newspaper fame, and was a friend of Penske... so they say.. I was Captain of the vessel in 2013-2015 With the new owner. We were based and fished out of Cap Cana in the DR... Near the last of my tenure we took the boat to Puerto Rico.. Now she has come back to the US and is for sale in Fort Lauderdale...

    I love and hate wrecking yards. I could never afford the stuff cause it is not that big of saving and if they have one, then they have a hundred of the same item and they just set there waiting for someone wealthy enough to buy then convert it to their application. So many variables when buying used just to find it would long run been cheaper to buy new. If they would just make the stuff more affordable then it would move like a motor for your rig or trans that is a spare in case of or could be switched out on a lay over. People can't afford most of it and some of it still needs repair to be of service.... I still love wrecking yards thou as a kid I would buy good cabs or doors and fix wrecks around the place as my dad was a logger and there were trucks that either needed fenders or cab... etc, and dad would sell cheap to me cause he was getting his money back from working for him just for him to see me roll out on my own time at my place a dozer or truck he just knew was dead then all the sudden nice paint and good running rig. I tripled my money off my dad selling at steep discount. He would find out he bought his own rig that he had told me to scrap and I would make nice with a JC Higgins paint gun and tools plus parts he never missed cause he walked over it. I made my start off my dad without him ever knowing cause he pretty much despised me. I was emancipated at fifteen.

    Just remember Dayton, Ohio has had emissions free bus transportation for over 80 years, trollybuses. 550 volt over head trolley wires. Someone there must build trolley buses.

      Back in the day of AM radios in cars if you were close to one of the Dayton trolleys when it did a line switch you could watch the arc and hear it in your radio.
