    I like the way the blocks are on an angle that would make it easy for a right handed person to sign. If it were hung up at an event like a wedding or retirement reception, folks could easily sign in the blocks.

      Oh! Being left-handed, I am surprised I didn't think of that! I usually notice that stuff. Great point! It would certainly work for most people and lefties like me could figure it out. 😃 That makes this even more well-thought out. Thank you!

    Learned something new-signature quilt. Never heard of it before. I know, I know…I live under a rock! Still, what a great idea. Thanks!

      You can't be expected to know all of the stuff! LOL! I am trying to remember when I first saw one of these types of quilts. I am sure I had been quilting for a while before I saw one. Anyway, I am so happy you learned about these. They are cool!

    It saddens me this was found in a thrift store 😢 But it found a good home to be cherished! TY for sharing! I’m loving the pattern and I love this idea of the purpose.

    What a nice pattern. I would like it even without signatures. I hope you are able to freshen it up and bring it back to life. It really is pretty. Interesting story.

      I hope so too! It is a great quilt. I am going to give an update on this one.

    It would be a great group project! Everyone makes their own signature square! That would be so cool! Sadly I do not have that many friends who quilt.

      Isn't it great? I love it, too! It would be fun to make for a party or special event.

    Super interesting! Such a mystery what the intention was and what happened about the signatures! Really enjoying your videos!

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you like them! Someone said in the comments that they don't sign them in the south. Maybe it is just a block? I feel like it is screaming for signatures. LOL! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

  • @romantictangle
    @romantictangle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I wonder if someone just liked the block and wanted to use it in a quilt? New signatures would definitely be a fun idea!

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That could be! My mom was contacted from someone in her church who watches my videos. The woman said it is a Cracker Box Quilt and they are popular in the southern parts of the United States. She said they don't sign them. I had no idea, even though I did some research before this video! Who knew!? I will be talking a little more about this next week in my monthly update video. Thank you for pointing this out and thank you for watching and commenting. ❤️

    What a lovely find! Looking at the fabric used makes me wonder if some of them came from old clothing. I have a couple of old quilts made by my husband's great aunt and she had used her families old clothes.

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They could be, although they are all cottons. Still, the maker could have used old cotton clothing. Great point! It makes it even more special! I love that you have some old family quilts. Love that! Thanks so much for watching and sharing!

      I think you are right about this theory. I think if the blocks had ever been signed, there would be some evidence somewhere on the quilt.

    Nice, my sister just scored a signature quilt for me with dates of 1957, and several were local names and place in Nova Scotia, Canada, posted it in some quilt FB sites and turns out maybe it was a family signature quilt, still waiting and gathering info. looks like I cannot post a pic here. Cheers.

      I haven't! Someone called it a Firecracker Block, so maybe it is that? This would make a great signature quilt! I love that you are making one! I have more lessons from an old quilt in the works. So happy you enjoy them!

    Hi Kris! I really like the quilt, just the way it is. Who’ve r made it did such a great job. Looking at the stripes etc. a lot of thought gone into it. And such interesting blocks. The colours are really pretty together. Thanks for sharing. I believe you’re a teacher? Can see endless possibilities, having your students write, or draw, on the blocks. 🥰🇦🇺

    I love the pattern and the quilt. For some reason though, that I cannot quite pinpoint, I find signature quilts kind of creepy. Is that weird? It is a pretty quilt, and well loved.

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A good friend of mine feels the same way, so I don't think it is that uncommon. If you really think about it, it is an odd concept, especially when they were popular during wartime. It's like, "I know you may die and I want your signature on this blanket." Very odd. 😀 It is a great pattern, isn't it?

    This is a fun pattern and i enjoyed the video. I hadnt heard of a signature quilt until i saw this. I have enjoyed watching this series as it gives you different things to think about. I often use the same fabric as the backing for my binding as like you said it matches and blends in.

    What are the dimensions of the pieces of the block?

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I believe the blocks are 6.5" square. I currently have this quilt in storage. I can look when I get a chance. This block can be made in different sizes, however. The block is the cracker block. Hope this helps!
