Love the painters tape idea . When I made one for a wedding I ironed freezer paper on the back to make the fabric more stable to write on . Then paper just peels right off .
Way back in the 70s I had a 4th grade class make a signature Quilt by drawing a picture and signing their name using crayons. I ironed each block between fabric to set the crayon. I liked the tape idea.
Love this episode. I had so smile when I saw your clever painter's tape idea. When my son was in kindergarten, the teacher gave them each a piece of fabric to draw on. She knew I was a quilter, so she asked me to make a quilt of the blocks. Not one was the same size, nor did she mark a seam allowance. That was a tough one to put together. When writing on a piece of fabric with a marker, I slip a piece of very fine sandpaper underneath the fabric. This holds the material steady and makes it a bit easier to write or draw.
I made a signature quilt for my daughter. People signed squares at her wedding shower. Even after instructions they went edge to edge. I took photos of all the squares before sewing the top together.
As promised in the video, here is a list of the names on the quilt in the background: Minnie Harris Brenda McGhee Marie Warren Donna Rosa Medley Doris Gower Alice Gower Regina Medley Nina McDaniels Linda McGhee Mary Weber Hazel Lynch Naomi McGhee Mary E Warren Mary Jo Medley Janie Jones Nellie Gendrick Lydia Medley Nida Lee Davis Ardith Lillie Gladys Skaggs Verna Lee Dewitt Virginia Lillie Vera Buchanan Barbara Medley Marcia Ann Durand Irene Durand Ethel Medley Barbara Ann Buchanan Nida Weber Phyllis Warren Mae Hunt Margaret Mier Lucille Buchanan Hazel Medley Patricia Cain
Thanks for the list of names! If this quilt was purchased off Ebay, do you know if this quilt is from the Utah area or someplace else? If you feel it's from the Utah area maybe there are Quilt quild's in the area that might know some of the names that are listed in this quilt? Without an idea of the area, it would probably be more difficult to try and track down these ladies with only their name. I spend a lot of time in Ancestry tracking down my family history so this type of research fascinates me but without more info it would be really difficult to find these ladies unless you have an idea of the area to look at. Thanks, Janice

Great suggestion with the sandpaper! I will have to try that next time!

I wish I could find out how to do the embroidery signatures.
A lot of the old signature quilts are all done by hand.
I’ll be at the Road to California Show in January. Was just going to ask if that was one.
Did you ever post a list of all the names on the signature quilt that was hanging up behind you?
I just added the list of names in a comment Janice. Please let me know if you do happen to know any of these people. Thanks!
