Great technique! I appreciate the caution not to sew on the horizontal and vertical lines. I think if I try this method I will draw those lines in a different color to help me remember. I need all the help I can get!

I ❤ this method, it saves sooo much time! I have found it easier to draw the cutting lines in RED so they stand out to me as a "DO NOT SEW" Line. This keeps me from getting confused whilst I quickly sew the sections, or quadrants together. Ty for this great tip! 😊👍

Nice clear tutorial. It looks to me like you starched the fabric rather heavily, and that's a good idea, because it holds the threads still and reduces stretching when sewing. If you did in fact use starch, you might want to mention that. And if you didn't starch, try it, because it makes the fabric behave!
Yes, I do starch my fabrics which helps with bias! I have a video that covers that and have another one coming on fabric preparation 👍 all makes a difference, thanks for your comment! Good luck!

This is a great tutorial and great idea. As a high school math teacher, I loved that you called the sections "quadrants." I would like it better though if you had the top right as Quadrant 1 and the top left as Quadrant 2, going around the square counterclockwise as we all learned in our Algebra classes. But that's just me.

I loved this method. As you were demonstrating I was wondering how big the fabric needed to be to make the size 1/2 sq needed. Thank you for the chart also. As for your instructions…..you are very easy to listen to and understand. Your calm demeanor and clear demonstration makes this method very easy to understand and I am wanting to give it a try, regardless of not having a project…..haha
Great video! Now I just need a pattern that needs that many! One suggestion...draw the first two lines (horizontal and vertical) with a different colored pen than the diagonals. Easier to remember to NOT sew on these!

Omg, I love this method. Was just shying away from a quilt pattern because of the number of HST I would have to cut. New subscriber here and recommending you to my quilter friends. Binge watching all your videos. TFS and your measurements guide.
One thing. When you've cut the big square down to the 4 squares and started using rotating mat cut your perpendicular and horizontal lines (middles), you should then rotate mat again, without lifting up material or shifting material, then cut the diagonal seams. Saves a ton of time.

I can’t thank you enough for the terrific chart!!! I’m making a pattern that has a double whammy: complicated blocks AND the instructions are in “old timey” terms like “2 7/8 squares cut in half.” Omigosh. So each block I’ve kind of redesigned so it’s manageable. And I needed 32 HST’s, 16 in one combination, 16 in another. I remembered that I had downloaded your guide so I can make these FAST , ACCURATELY, and EASILY!!! I’m just so pleased!! THANK YOU for all the pre-planning and arithmetic!! There's "Triangles on a roll". So you cannot make as many as you want.

Using scissors to cut the final pairs in half is also faster than using a ruler and rotary cutter. Good tutorial!

I like the way you drew the lines on the fabric and then sewing 1/4" thru the two layers of fabric and much easier to cut out the triangles.

You could draw the vertical and horizontal lines a different colour from the diagonal as a reminder.

I can’t thank you enough for the terrific chart!!! I’m making a pattern that has a double whammy: complicated blocks AND the instructions are in “old timey” terms like “2 7/8 squares cut in half.” Omigosh. So each block I’ve kind of redesigned so it’s manageable. And I needed 32 HST’s, 16 in one combination, 16 in another. I remembered that I had downloaded your guide so I can make these FAST , ACCURATELY, and EASILY!!! I’m just so pleased!! THANK YOU for all the pre-planning and arithmetic!! My squares are cut out and I’m ready to roll. Again, I can’t say it enough: Thank you!!!
I'll definitely be using this! I've done the 8 at a time, and this is brilliant to quadruple that method and easily get 32!
