as far as i can tell, it was a very polarizing film - and a controversial one at that. but i REALLY liked it, and can even understand what some of the less enthusiastic and critical opinions of the film would argue. but geez, willa fitzgerald puts on the performance of a lifetime. i hope she becomes the next big thing cause she was AMAZING
Willa to get the Oscar win! The way she plays victim and villian was totally convincing and very hard to do. A nuanced and heartfelt performance. The best acting of the year by far.
Strange Darling had the best mid film twist I’ve seen in a movie in a while. I started out really liking the film because it was tense, the performances were captivating, and the filming style was just so cool. But as soon as the reveal happened, I went from really like to love. It really changed the context of everything you had seen up till then and I love when a movie does that.
STRANGE DARLING is a modern classic. Flawless. THE SUBSTANCE is as well. Body horror perfection. ODDITY is a superlative Halloween watch. Spooky and atmospheric.
I need your take on Kyle Gallner rising as a “scream king” in the horror community- I love his horror legacy and he’s doing great things for original horror while still in the mainstream.
Finally! Some appreciation for Apartment 7A. I loved it❤😊 And yeah, The Exorcism was fun!! Strange Darling, my favorite 2024 non-horror... I don't really see it as horror, but that's just me. Watched it at the cinema, perfect!!
Strange Darling really took us on a wild chase literally. But what stands out is how a lead and totally convincing Oscar worthy performance has such a grasp of duality, the victim, and villian. Willa Fitzgerald really stuns and connects to the viewer elevating the film. Just a very memorable film. I'm expecting her to get nominated for horror and non horror awards and win them all. By far the best performance this year.
It's so nice to hear someone else speak positively about Apartment 7A! I also went in with low expectations but ended up giving it 3.5 stars too. Garner was amazing!
I watched Milk and Serial on a Friday night and it was such a good choice to watch something interesting but not overly long or short! Strange Darling is on my list of “must watch.”
I found this found footage movie at a gas station one time and have never been able to find it anywhere since except on a couple of movie sites. It is my favorite movie hands down and I'd love to share it with you if you're interested. I really think you'd enjoy it
A short that flew under the radar is called from.beyond it’s a found footage/ documentary about earths first encounter with alien life. Only like 20 minutes long but terrifying
Willa Fitgerald blew me away in Strange Darling, loved it. I couldn't put my finger on where I had seen her before, then i realized from Fall of the House of Usher. Holy, she has got range. I barely recognized her.
@@chubby_deity3143 no. When he stopped the car, she confused him by going opposite directions. Everyone knows to zigzag when you’re being shot at, but that move was clever imo
Have you watched the Blackwell Ghost? It’s a mocumentary style ghost movie. There’s several, but I’ve only watched the first one and it’s pretty good! Don’t think I’ve ever heard you talk about it and it made me think of you when I watched it and it’s streaming free on Tubi!
Hi, first off love your videos and so many films I wouldn't watch or maybe would of missed if not for your videos. Would you do a film review of micky's mousetrap and winnie the pooh blood and honey 2 please? Many Thanks
I knew I was going to hate Milk & Serial. I KNEW I would. And then I watched it and absolutely LOVED IT! I watched "The Chair" as well, and both are just terrific. Both of these movies were shot in a way that I simply was not expecting. I didn't expect the camera work (found footage), and the Acting, writing... all of it exceeded my expectations. I will be looking for more from everyone involved!
As of right now Strange Darling is my favorite 2024 movie. It's nice to have a good year for horror films. I'm interested in Heretic. I've heard good things about it.
Same, it’s definitely one of my favorite movies, the substance was close to being there too but I feel like the last 10 to 20 minutes ruined the movie & dragged it for too long which is unfortunate because the movie had a beautiful message & was nearly a perfect movie before that ended ruined it.
Great video! I agree completely. First off, I don’t understand all the hate surrounding Apartment 7a? I absolutely loved it. What did people expect/want? It wasn’t an origin story, it was literally the story about the girl who lived in the apartment before Rosemary!? 🙄😂 It’s very well acted, I thought it was very scary at times, and loved the end scene where she’s dancing…if you know what I mean. It’s definitely a great movie and a standalone as well. Strange darling is in my top five of the year, that’s a great movie! Doesn’t beat The Substance or Oddity, as best, but it’s up there! This has been a great year for horror movies. I think Apartment 7A is one of those movies years from now people will come back to and really love. For now, I think people just wantvto hate it. Have a great spooky season. 🎃
I would LOVE a “Least Favorite Stephen King Adaptations” video! Featuring Secret Window possibly? I’m so curious why you don’t like that movie. Most people prefer it over his own short story.
same as you I came across the movie when it was released not knowing what it was about. I'm watching and I'm like this is a rosemary's baby ripoff and then i googled it Then saw what it was. I really liked it.
Strange Darling is such a frustrating film and it’s equally frustrating to critique while prioritizing not spoiling it. I have a lot of feelings about it, and what I will say is that I don’t feel comfortable with the prevailing rhetoric that we should go in blind. To me it’s a really triggering movie, and I don’t feel confident the triggering aspects were handled responsibly.
i feel like it’s on you to do your research for trigger warnings despite critics recommending you to go in blind or not. if you have triggers you should know better and look into a movie for those things before viewing.
@@PhoenixFit2024 It’s goofy how triggered some of you get at the mere mention that something is triggering for anyone. Please read comments critically before responding. I never suggested the movie itself needed to have a trigger warning. Horror movies can be for anyone who enjoys them. Content warnings are thoughtful and make the lives of some of those people better. I consume content about horror movies from creators who are generally really great about providing those warnings. This is simply a movie that gets overlooked as one that could use a content warning around sexual violence because of the way it all plays out.
Big Rosemary's Baby fan here....I had low expectations for apartment 7a but I ended up liking it. But I have questions and no one seems to be talking about like why hwere there 2 devils and why was one bedazzled? I also hated they didn't even out Terry in at least the same.color clothing when they showed Rosemary but also that they didn't meet like in the original. I feel like they should have made that connection. But I do agree it coukd defintly be a stand alone film and it was giving suspiria vibes. The Rosemary books 1 & 2 were good but someone made a sequel in the 70s and it's terrible and dosnt follow the 2nd book which it couldn't cause the author (who's is the creator of Rosemary's baby before the movie came out wrote the 2nd book in 1998- so I'd love to see the 2nd book into the original sequel film).
I won't say much about Strange Darling, only that I had no interest in it bc the Letterboxd page made it look so generic. Went to see it based on my roommates recommendation and it was way better than I expected. If you're like me and thought the poster was a turn-off, it's 100% worth going out of your way to see
Strange darling was amazing. The twist, the score, the acting. One of the best films of the year imo
I just wish it wasn't $20 for a video on demand... I'd rather go to a theater for that price tbh 🙃
@@DonovanPresents that is regular theater price though & is likely how much it’ll be on dvd when it goes on it in a few months 😭

Agreed
So glad you included strange darling! 1 of the best this year by far.
I just saw Strange Darling yesterday and it was a really crazy movie! It had me constantly on my toes and the twist was a great one!
I'm watching Milk & Serial tonight.
Only 62 minutes long ? Nice.
I can squeeze in an episode of From right afterwards.
Julia Garner is amazing! I first saw her on The Ozarks, and I love Rosemary's Baby, I definitely have to watch Apartment 7a!

Milk and Serial was an achievement for sure. ps thank you by the way, as I’ve enjoyed your reviews for years now !
milk and serial was so good, disturbing and hilarious too!
Agreed.
agreed. ^^ would love to see a list of good short films because there's so much of them and I don't have the energy to go through them.
I watched Apt 7A last night and loved it. Far better than I was prepared for. 2024 has been THE year for religious/religious-adjacent movies!
And I’m not even mad at it! I keep saying it’s gonna get old but then I like each new religious horror lol
I liked it, too. Loved the theatrical/musical scenes!
STRANGE DARLING gaggeddd me so bad
Ooh, Milk & Serial is by some folks I've watched before, gonna head over there and watch that right after this vid, thanks for the heads up!
Found is a good " found " footage movie. It's about a young man finding out his older brother is a serial killer. Excellent movie.
I think you'll like VHS Beyond because of the sci fi theme. I watched it last night and all the segments were enjoyable
Yes really good!!
Love sci fi horror… honestly my favorite genre of movie under the horror umbrella. Do you need to have watched the other VHS movies?
It was surprisingly solid across all of the segments! Loved the sky diving one the most!
My daughter just told me to watch Strange Darlings, and i thought you had spoken about it. She said it was very twisty and very good.

Never even heard of "Milk & Serial." Going to have to check it out!
Just watched Strange Darling on Monday. Absolutely loved it. So good!!!!
Apartment 7A is a decent movie with huge re-watch potential! Also I could watch Julia in anything.
I wasn’t that impressed with 7A until the end, and actually really liked what they did there and how it connected to Rosemary’s Baby.
I absolutely agree that Strange Darling is one of the best horror films of the year. Very unique. So good. Loved it!
The music/score was TERRIBLE, tho
Strange Darling is my favorite 2024 movie so far
Dianne Wiest was fantastic as Minnie Castevet.
I would recommend “it’s what’s inside”. it just released on Netflix but I havent seen many people talk about it
Strange Darling is my favorite film of the year so far, followed closely by The Substance. Some truly special movies this year.
Thank you for bringing attention to Strange Darling- absolutely insane! My husband and I loved it. Didn’t guess a thing!
You actually sold me on Milk and Serial 😅 going to watch tonight.
just watched strange darling a few days ago and omg one of my favs of the whole year for sure!!
Paused to go watch Milk & Serial. Pretty fun time. Thanks for the recommendation!
Saw Strange Darling on Friday. It was sooo good! I really enjoyed it

Nice to hear you name The Exorcism! I totally enjoyed that film! Kept my attention the entire time.
I don't know if you've seen Life of Belle, a shorter found-footage horror movie from this year, but it's pretty effective and quite chilling.
Just watched Strange Darling and loved it! One of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time , and I knew the plot ahead of time.
I'm always looking forward to those videos !!
Apartment 7A surprised me cause people says its bad i gave it 3.5/5 on letterboxd
Two movies really threw me for a loop this year.. Strange Darling and Love Lies Bleeding
