I’m so frustrated with Blumhouse. They had such a great streak going in the 2010s, and now they’re clearly just making cheap bad movies for quick money. How did they go from Paranormal Activity, Sinister, Insidious, The Purge, Oculus, Unfriended, Origin of Evil, Split, GET OUT, Us, Creep, Halloween, The Invisible Man ... to this and Imaginary and Night Swim and The Exorcise Believer. I genuinely can’t remember the last good Blumhouse movie I watched. The Black Phone was pretty good I guess.
Oh and speaking of which movie I hated the most. I can only speak on Nightswim bc I haven’t seen Imaginary or Afraid. But that movie was truly terrible. It was blatantly obvious the director didn’t know what to do to build the haunted swimming pool concept to a full film, which is admittedly a pretty cool concept, so he filled it with uninteresting characters, boring filler scenes where nothing happens, and a few mildly creepy pool scenes. Oh and Wyatt Russel’s terrible acting. There’s that too. How Kerry Condon went from an Oscar nominated film to a shitty waste of time like Nightswim is beyond me. I guess that Paycheck must’ve been nice.
Can't wait for the dvd extras, where the actors say the script "felt really organic" and "the house was like a character" and the kid actor was "a force of nature" 😄
So on point. If I have to hear one more time that * insert anything except an actor * is a "character" in a movie... "You know, New York is really another character in this film..." No it's fucking not! Stop it! lol
@@daniboy4153 Personally, I can do without the DVD menus/autoplay crap. Something I’m noticing with a lot of things lately, including these bigger budget horror movies, is that they feel soulless, like there was no passion behind the projects at all and it shows. It’s such a shame because horror is so visceral and can go where other genres cannot a lot of the time. Idk if I articulated that correctly but I’m right there with you 😭

There can’t be a reason for a Speak No Evil remake. It was good at it was. It’s important that the victim family is Scandinavian. (The cultural shyness )
If there was ever a movie that should not get the remake treatment, it would be Speak No Evil. It's a disturbing and indelible film, and not some conventional movie from decades ago that needs an English language 'reimagining.'
Based off of the trailer, it’s clearly going to go in a different direction. My mom and I kept saying when we were watching the orginal movie: “Americans wouldn’t do this. This wouldn’t happen with Americans”. It’s just a different culture (no judgement!). Based on the remake’s trailer, it already shows how different it’ll be. In the original, the family never communicated and were hardly ever on the same page, but this shows how the whole family knows that something is wrong and is on the same page. Idk. It could work. But I don’t see any reason why we needed a remake. It’s completely unnecessary.
"M3gan" worked for me thanks to the satirical elements, otherwise it would be the forgettable "Chucky" remake. I can't believe that anyone didn't mention how similar they were.
@@RavingMadStudios I know the video is about afraid but I wanted to point out how similar m3gan was to the Chucky remake, the one with Aubrey plaza. I know I got sidetracked.
I interpreted the ending very differently. *Spoilers* Although the family did get into the car provided by Aia, I didn't view it as the family trusting Aia again. Instead, Aia basically blackmailed the family of a threat to destroy their lives unless they go along with things. It's been over a week since I've seen the movie, so I can't remember the exact line, but I do remember Aia threatening the father outside of the ambulance. So for me, this wasn't a happy ending. It's a bleak ending where the family has accepted that they've lost and Aia won. Their futures are going to be at the complete mercy of Aia as Aia's puppets, just like so many of the other characters of the movie.
Granted it's been over two decades since I've last seen Smart House so can't say whether it holds up, but as a kid I loved rewatching it over and over.

Even tho the movie was so bad and annoying, I do have to say that I appreciated its intentions ( which I hope they had ) about how lifeless & colourless life looks with so much technology involved, we saw kids being outside but with phones, we saw a family living together but everyone with their devices. Love your hair and makeup. Y2K girlie❤
I really like your take on this movie (I haven’t watched it yet, probably never will) but the thing that I don’t see people talking about was the marketing. The marketing was genius and terrifying. I remember I got one ad for it on TH-cam and skipped it, then a day later got an ad on Spotify for it and it said “I know you’ve been skipping this ads.” And it generally terrified me. It’s sad they couldn’t have gotten that level of genius with the movie.
Immediately thought of Smarthouse when i saw the trailer for this movie and hes it was totally ahead of its time. Also LOVE the new set up v cute
The bar was on the floor for me so I didn't think it was as bad as it could have been. I love the new set up though.

Based on your review Smart House is better. The AI takes control of the family because she “thinks” she’s helping them.
