Okay, Sarah. Since you've mentioned this subject twice recently, I have to say something. Please, please, PLEASE make a found footage horror movie someday!!! I think you would really do it justice. I know it would be a major undertaking, but with your meticulous attention to detail, I'm sure it would be epic! Please consider it?

I Saw the TV Glow is my favorite movie of the year. I watched it three times in one week and I don’t even know how to explain how it made me feel. it’s so beautiful and emotional and i need more. i love the artistic choices and the coloring is so fantastic. The dry/flatter dialogue works for me and adds to the whole idea of not really living your own life

@andreaberg1735 The Wailing is amazing and kinda similar to Exhuma. Some other good ones are The Call, Gonjiam, Bedevilled, The Thirst, Train to Busan (a classic) and if you like horror on a bit more psychological/thriller side, i highly recommend the revenge trilogy (Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr Vengance, and Lady Vengance), Memories of Murder, Chaser, I Saw The Devil, Forgotten, some of these are like soul crushing btw lol. If you want to try horror k-dramas, Sweet Home, Beyond Evil and Strangers from Hell are really good, and for Asian Horror movies in general, Noroi the curse, Cure, Pulse, Shutter, As the gods will and Incatation are pretty good

As a gender questioning 34 year old, I Saw the TV Glow was one of the most horrifying movies I've ever seen. I understand it won't be for everyone, but it really left me reeling about whether or not I was being the most authentic version of myself. This idea that there is still time, but it's finite, you do have to act, made me want to cry. I'm so glad you liked it, it was such an important film for me personally!

my favorite type/sub-genre of horror movies is found-footage too. i feel like the reason why i personally love found-footage (horror) movies is the fact that it seems to be more realistic than the non-found-footage horror movies. it feels like we're actually interacting with the characters and experiencing the horrors in the movies. idk how to explain that well lol.

I appreciate I Saw the TV Glow for its originality and aesthetic, but I feel like it misses the typical horror elements. There is some body horror stuff, but overall I was not scared.
I don’t have to be “scared” in order to enjoy a horror movie. I did feel tension and dread in ISTTVG.
Being a very avid horror movie fan, I’d probably classify ISTTVG as an artistic cult film. Horror doesn’t have to fit into categories or classification, and the characters dealt with this very dilemma of classification and living a typical lifestyle.
    Schoenbrun certainly exposits this.
At least they made me think.
Horror movies don’t have to check all the trope boxes, and neither does Schoenbrun. ISTTVG just doesn’t scratch a particular itch for me.

It’s ultimately pretty subjective but for me I Saw the TV Glow is absolutely one of the most effective horror movies I’ve seen in a while. I don’t find myself scared when watching horror movies, pretty much ever, and ISTTG isn’t an exception to that but its much closer than most other horror movies get. Especially during the monologue scene and right after it, it really got to me in an existential way that something terrible was about to happen. And the more overt moments of horror throughout the movie will also stick with me for a long time because of how much I enjoy them conceptually. If anything I’d say ISTTG is what I’ve been craving from horror for a long long time, something enigmatic and dreadful and conceptual rather than a tangible sense of terror. Bit of a ramble but ye I love this movie and I really want more horror like it

    • @AshwynChappell
      @AshwynChappell 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I definitely think it’s a film where the horror is dependent on relating to the experiences of the characters (in this case, being trans or queer in general). I watched it with my cishet dad and he didn’t see what there was in it to be horrified by, but as a trans person I was genuinely shaken to my core by it, and have not been able to get it out of my head since. It’s not a jumpscare/gore/supernatural horror, but one of slow existential dread and the terror of seeing yourself in your worst moments, reflected back from the screen. Definitely not for everyone, but every trans person I know who’s seen it was very deeply effected by it

I'm really glad you like I Saw The TV Glow 😊.
ISTTG is a transgender allegory so I'll say this; it has a lot more horror in it if you're a trans person lol. It's basically an allegory for trans people who don't know they're trans, and when they find out they are trans they repress it and stay in the closet. Sometimes they never come out and thus never live as the true them ever. The horror is that potentially happening to someone. Maddy is so adamant about trying to get Owen to come out and be her true self because she knows how painful staying closeted is. That's why there's the hopeful message written on the street that says "there's still time.". It was a message to Owen but also all closeted trans viewers. Us older trans people are often wrongfully told a lot, (sometimes from other trans people unfortunately.), that we're too old to transition. Like "24 is too old and there's no point in trying to transition because your native puberty has already run it's course.". (Not true btw, I started transitioning at 24 and I'm now 32 and pass as a cis woman.). A lot of trans people feel like they can't transition due to how hostile society is to us (and other factors) so there's this pervasive fear that we'll never be able to live as the true us and we'll die still identifying as a gender that brought us great pain.
Sorry for the wall of text lol 😅 but it's a roundabout way of saying this movie definitely has more horror in it if you're trans.

@@PossessedbyHorror you should check out this band called Chat Pile! They're sludgey but very inspired by Korn, Sepultura, and other Nu-Metal bands. They do a lot of horror themed songs, most of them are original stories, but "Pamela" is written from the perspective of Pamela Voorhees

Both actors in I Saw The Tv glow are great actors. Their characters are technically missing their insides and are buried underground so maybe that’s why their deliveries seemed disconnected. It was a part of the story

Agreed that "I Saw The TV Glow" is an excellent drama (loved the characters) with horror elements. Also agree that it could have used more horror. Exhuma really delivers on being so freaking original and surprising. It also did a great job of exposing US viewers to new cultural horrors. Love that part of it. Will have to give "Mind, Body, Spirit" a look. Was looking forward to "Frogman" and it left me VERY disappointed. I liked what they were doing but it just never got beyond creepy to terrifying the way the best FF movies do.
