The Udawatta Kele Forest Reserve is a beautiful sanctuary home to many fauna & flora. The tranquility of the place adds to the beauty of the city. The ancient history of the Kandyan kingdom is closely connected with the reserve. In one end we have the Udawatta Thapowanaya Hermitage. There are close to 20 monastics, who live here and their daily routine include giving, virtue & meditation practices. This breathtakingly beautiful, tranquil place closer to the temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic opens the path to liberate oneself from worldly things.
මහනුවර උඩවත්ත වන රක්ෂිතය පරිසරක අලංකාරය අතින් අනූන වුවකි. එහි ඇති නිස්කලංක බව මහනුවර නගරය රමණීය පරිසරයක් කිරීමටත් සෙන්කඩගල ඉතිහාසය උඩවත්ත කැලය වටා ගෙතුණු බවත් අතීත පොත පතෙහි සදහන් වෙයි. මෙහි එක් පසෙක පිහිටා ඇත්තේ උඩවත්ත තපෝවනය ආරණ්‍ය සේනාසනය වේ. එහි භික්ෂුන් වහන්සේ විසි නමකට ආසන්න ප්‍රමාණයක් වර්තමානයේ වැඩ සිටින අතර, එහි දාන, ශිල, භාවනා යන විවිධ පුණ්‍ය ක්‍රියා දිනපතා සිදු කරයි. අති රමණිය පරිසරයක් තුල සහ ශ්‍රී දළදා හාමුදුරුවන් වැඩ සිටිනා අභියස බුදු දහමෙහි යතානුරුපි දැක්ම තුලින් නිවන් මග පසක් කර ගන්නට මෙම ආරණ්‍ය සෙනසුණ මං පෙත් පාදයි.
