  • After using this cam in a lower compression 131ci build sometime ago & being left underwhelmed. I finally have the option to use higher compression pistons to suit the late intake closing time of this cam. The ROCKET Cams 544
    I knew that I was going make a decent amount of power this time around with the compression ratio of the 131ci engine being bumped up to 12.0:1 thanks to the beautiful CP Carrillo Pistons.
    As usual guys, there is some footage that is not shown in the video to help keep the video length comfortable so if you don't see something, please stop & think for just a couple seconds before blurting out your "Ha gotcha" comments.
    All my builds are carried out in the most professional manner I can provided in my environment.
    I would like to thank ALL of my Subscribers for getting us over the 5000 subscriber mark! What an achievement that is! I thought for sure, I thought I would struggle to even get 100 subs when I started this channel.

    Great to see you continually evolving with these builds Tommy. There are so many options for each customers requirements. I love seeing the different variants between the APE Builds and the SE 131 hybrids. For me I like the fact that they're actually rideable as a daily. Your knowledge and experience is an asset to customise individual wants. Needs and expectations. Keep up the great content mate

      The Michelin tyres from back then were responsible for that.
      The Street 500, Lowrider S & Fatboy were well known for having that problem.
      Since going through that batch of tyres the problem has since gone away. Unfortunately for some, they had multiple sets of new tyres fitted without the issues being fixed as they were still getting the tyres from the bad batch.

    The 544 cam is incredibly intriguing. I have a 128 with the 474. I'm not sure how much I would gain without going up from the current 11:1 compression. Springs and the cam can be had pretty reasonably, but not sure what sort of benefit there would be without bumping up the compression.

    I’m just curious… you mentioned something about the 2BR exhaust that seemed like it was limiting the bike somehow… I think you mentioned that about the exhaust on the other 131 you did… what exhaust do you recommend?

    Stock cam plate and oil pump? High lift and 150hp??

    • @MasterTechMiller
      @MasterTechMiller  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Fun fact. The only cam plate & oil pumps I've seen fail are the Fueling Race plate & pump combo & the S&S pump & plate kit.
      The SE pump & plate kit is only new & I've only installed a few so far with no issues. Time will tell.
      The OEM 8 lobe oil pump & factory cam plate is honestly very capable & I have never seen one fail yet. I build these engines & do cam kits on a DAILY basis.
      Everyone's favourite American George Bryce runs the OEM pump & plate in his 180+hp Blue Five-O Road King build.

    Schwing!!! My first Harley was a '97 Fat Boy so this title naturally sparked my interest. The rear tire on it was about a quarter of the width of the modern Fat Boys. Didn't see the primary tensioner on this build. Did you use an after-market? That cam has a nice sound at idle. I would love experience 150 ft. lbs of torque! Thanks for posting this sir!

      The OEM primary chain tension is fine to use. They have come a long way over the last 10years.
      Check out this video of mine, I go into a small amount of detail about the OEM tension & how it works along with the clutch th-cam.com/video/0lFTC8s9sLU/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Tommy did you tune this with Powervision ?

  • @harleydave2316
    @harleydave2316 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question:. I am about done stroking my 88" dyna to a 107. Does it hurt to dyno right away or should I put a few hundred miles on it first with a base map to seat the rings? We don't see everything in your videos but it appears you always go straight to Dyno.

    • @MasterTechMiller
      @MasterTechMiller  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question Dave.
      So all my engine builds are obviously measured & set before & during assembly.
      After the first fire up & check over I let the bike cool off before 'heat cycling' the engine a few times.
      Heat cycles are carried out by letting the engine idle & warm up slowly to operating temperature then letting it cool off again giving the components time to expand & contract in a 'gentle' manner.
      From there, it's onto the dyno for tuning.
      I don't believe in 'running in' engines these days as the machining tolerances of all the components is so accurate, not to mention I check & set all the critical clearances during the build process.
      The term running in comes from (in my opinion) from earlier days when machining was not as accurate & some of the components had to literally 'wear' into other components to actually develop their own wear patterns like the old flat tappets from early V8 engines.
      In short though, No it's not harmful to a properly assembled engine to go straight on the dyno.

    can u tell me the name of the pistons and do they make those for a 114ci? my thought is building better instead of bigger.

    • @MasterTechMiller
      @MasterTechMiller  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pistons are manufactured by CP Carrillo
      There is a high comp option from them for the 114ci I believe. Have a look at the website

    How do you like the tbr exhaust compared to the others you've tested?

    • @MasterTechMiller
      @MasterTechMiller  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a fan of the TBR 2-1 pipes at all. They are far too small the M8 engine and always present that dip in the torque curve. The primary tubes are too short & deffinently too small in diameter to create enough velocity.
      This is the pipe that was already on the bike when it was brought to me. Customer loves the look, size & sound of it so he won't be changing it.
      I never recommend TBR 2-1 pipes.
      Always suggest D&D Fatcat or Lowcat for softails. Or the D&D Billet cat for tourers. .
      The Bassani Road rage HP 2-1 is another great option for a touring pipe.

    What's better mate. 2into1 or a 2 in to 2

    • @MasterTechMiller
      @MasterTechMiller  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All depends on how you like the engine to perform. 2-2 system keep the torque in down low but sacrifice top end HP.
      A good 2-1 system will provide great mid range and on HP.
      Some 2-1 pipes are better than others. The longer the 2-1 pipe the better it is (generally).
      The TBR 2-1 Pipe on this bike is too short for it and is why there is a small dip in the start of the torque curve.

    • @martinXY
      @martinXY ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MasterTechMiller What should the long bit of the 2-1 pipe be for best performance? The 2 pipes or the 1 pipe? Have you seen/used/discussed anti-reversion systems (as made by Thrashin') or lollipops (DK Customs) to overcome the dips?
