@@TheLemonFactor I'm not an expert but on exhaust systems, but I know how to weld, I want to count with your honest opinion on it once I finish this project.
Thanks Chad - great video - really looking forward to you doing the sound and power measurements. I have the GWR SSST exhaust and am loving the sound. I use a "mixing baffle" which has 3 holes in it , and I use the middle hole as this sounds best in my opinion. I just want to now see whether I should also get the GWR mid pipe section. I have been told that the mid pipe section is useful if you install a header, but I am keen to see if the mid pipe on its own will improve flow and provide a little bit of extra hp and improved sound. I do not intend doing a header at this stage. Loving your series and hope it wont be too long before the next episode!!
According to Goodwin Racing there is no real reason to switch the mid-pipe if you're not using an aftermarket header. They recommend changing mid-pipe if installing a header, because their mid-pipe has a bung for the 2nd O2 sensor. Also, since the stock Mazda exhaust header contains the catalytic converter, the new mid-pipe has a catalytic converter. With new header and new mid-pipe, there is a lot more sound getting through than stock, so they recommend the single tip Super Q header version to help with the noise. Here is what Brian Goodwin told me about the mid-pipe: Our highflow midpipes are bigger diameter, full 2.5 inches. As a result of that higher flow, even with bigger resonator like we use as compared to stock the sound level is not lower than stock midpipe. Thus, only two reasons to do the midpipe. One is for full flow, most relevant to customers going with supercharger or turbo. Second reason is that midpipe has O2 connection after converter to make install of catless header plug and play (as opposed to having to weld an O2 bung to factory midpipe after converter).
@@cyrusnanavati I am too...Greddy posted dyno results for their catback system and picked up 9HP plus 13FT/lbs of torque "in a couple of areas" then at 5000-5500 RPM, both HP and Torque start to head down on the graph. Right now due to the info Greddy has posted I am leaning toward the Greddy exhaust, it's quiet too. That and a Fab9 Tune just might do it for me! www.miataspeed.com/blogs/news/greddy-supreme-sp-exhaust-review-2016-mazda-mx-5-miata
Thanks for the watch, and comment as usual ; ) I to want to see if a midpipe provides enough performance relative to added sound, as I'm sure many of you do. Also, if we go FI at some point, I think it's good to know what the options are.
I have a Goodwin Supersport single and ended up with the glass pack insert. The regular or glasspack is awesome but I found running no insert had more drone than I liked. Just has a unique high end sound with any combination!
Hi Chad - any update on when you will do the GWR mid pipe and GWR SSST sound and power testing? Im really looking forward to you doing this as I am hanging off buying the midpipe !
I reached out to the dyno shop just yesterday and have not heard back. However, their message is still indicating the same, i.e. no dyno activity. I'll be email the owning this morning as well as I too really want to move this along.
GReddy has an interesting design looks high quality. Nice tips , hope it was worth the wait. I went with the Borla axle back myself. Happy with the sound and little power boost . Only thing I was disappointed about is the tips. Looks exactly like stock except they are cut at an angle. Their axle back I had on my FRS was much nicer with chrome tips that had Borla stamped into them.
Although I've never personally had a Borla, I've heard pretty good reviews with other cars. The Greddy really impressed me - quality product, but of course you're paying for it - not cheap!
Hi, tx for your devotion. About me, i waiting to receiv the next part of my exhaust line "Polished 5" midpipe from GWR ". Now and for a few months, i drive with GWR RACE axleback and i am verry happy, it change greatly the driving experience. I was afraid he would face too much noise but not at all.For this reason, i intend to change other pieces of the line. Louder sound and slight performance gain. i think i was not mistaken in choosing the RACE GWR and not the street, because it's quieter than i thought. Also i not disappointed either because there are enough details (sound). Do you think the street version offers more details in the sound? I don't understand why we turn to the less noisy version except the legislation because the RACE version is not as noisy as that. Thank you and continuous, it's a pleasure to follow you.
We went with the GWR Roadster Sport Super Street as I had hands on experience with it when testing the sound (see previous video) and liked it a lot, AND because GWR recommended not to go with the Race version if your using a mid-pipe. Actually, they recommended going with the SuperQ, but hey, we'll find out how much louder the mid-pipe makes it.
Just in time before I made a decision! Clutch to you guys!
Thanks for the watch and comment. I'm personally very excited to see how all this turns out.
I'm working on unequal length headers for the nd2😉.
For personal use only, or will you be selling them? Regardless, I’d love to hear how they turn out 👍

Awesome videos! Where did you purchase this GReddy SP Catback?
Thank you for the watch and support! I purchased the Greddy SP exhaust from Fab9Tuning.
@@TheLemonFactor Thank you sir!
How did you decide to not put the sound in the same video, that is the most important part dude
There’s videos specifically covering sound measurements for both of these exhausts - checkout the Miata playlist on the channel 👍
Looking forward to seeing the results!

Is this California legal?
Axle back mufflers, yes. Midpipes, no. You'll notice on the websites that they will not ship midpipes to CA.
