I have the Flying Miata Hush O Matic with the Butterfly valve its an active exhaust that will open the valve when you put your foot down giving a great sound. For idling its quieter but still gives a low bass sounding exhaust note that the neighbors won't complain about. Really great design & sound.
Yes! I love these comparison videos when they go through multiple exhaust systems. In my opinion the ISR Circuit Spec sounds the best, has that low gargle at idle, and the revs sound really good....I'd buy that one.
I've had the ISR for a few years and I do think it has the best overall tone, but OH GOD is it LOUD! :-) I have 800 watts of aftermarket sound system in the car too and I can't even hear it... I'm going to swap the rear section out but can't decide what to go with. I think the HKS is my current top choice.

I got the ISR installed today, holy fuck its actually ridiculous. I have to speed more than normal just so it doesn't sound like im going 100 mph when im going 30 lmao. It's only the first day so maybe I'm still shellshocked
The cose-up image of the Goodwin Roadster Sport Race is actually another exhaust, but still made by goodwin racing, though that one is called Goodwin Racing superstreet single tip exhaust. Sounds great as well, quite similar, but less loud when driving the car softly. (hence the race/street differences in the names)

I like the Remark.. My first MX-5 (1995) had a Supertrap on it and it sounds close to it.. My Miata sounded like non other, though. I just bought a 2020. Super excited to make an upgrade!

Found a guy selling a set of sap mufflers (sap was an appearance package you could get that included gm performance mufflers that were actually magnaflows I believe) so I bought those and did a pypes h pipe. The overall loudness was roughly the same, but the sap mufflers made it deeper which was perfect!

Pretty throaty sound I like so I’m leaning towards that. But hard to say from a video where is it actually noticeable if someone is next to you? I was looking at the cobalt too for price but I feel like that’s not much louder than stock, but just a better deeper sound. Any help would be great! Thanks!
roadstersport and isr sound similar. is isr louder? idk if its worth upgrading from roadstersport to isr. 700 but it sounds the same but if its a lot louder then it might be worth it
for the most part these exhausts are for sound improvement I'd say. But sound is important for driving experience! legal..cant confirm, but to be on the safe side any of the exhausts with big oval mufflers (except the ebay special) will probably be quiet enough to be legal.
The Flyin' Miata Hush'O Matic obviously, because it has a valve with different modes (always silent, always open, and a hybrid mode that only opens at WOT / high RPM)
I dont think any valved exhaust stays fully closed. After a certain rpm (usually 4k) or full throttle it opens up. This is to avoid damaging the engine. I have a valved exhaust on my Bmw m3 and it is like this. Porsche and others do the same, even oem. Armytrix used to have it stay closed but they found out that it was dangerous.
Did you ever find one? I’m kind of in the same boat and want an affordable one. I was looking at cobalt but I think that’s too quiet. But then I know someone selling a new HKS that’s on here at the 7min mark and think I’m going to get it. It’s a great deal and to my ears sounds good without being super loud but enough for a noticeable exhaust. And no drone which is big to me. I had one car a while back with horrible drone and still gives me nightmares lol
The Greddy and the Borla sound a lot alike. Can someone help me understand how the Greddy with the wider pipes makes it better? It’s wider by 1/2 an inch
It aint really the ultimate comparison because some of them are just revs, cars sound different under load, n some have the mic in the wrong spot so u cant tell the actual sound. Still good tho n the best one out there probably.
@@HazardGarage @gravity45b its definitely not stock header if you're wondering. That was the OS Giken ND and they have a custom exhaust from Remark and probably some kind of aftermarket header. My Remark cat back does not sound like theirs at all.
The Hush O Matic Flying Miata axle back does not drone on the highway with the intake pressure line installed. 5+ years & its a great setup. You can Buy the Can Buss controller to actually set the open control to however you want. Its another extra cost though. Completely happy with the intake pressure setting the Valve usually about 30 to 35 % throttle will open it. Cleaning the car its the Bypass pipe exhaust that is always dirty 😎but that is the Hooligan in me I can't shake even at my elevated age ! Its not obnoxiously loud to annoy neighbors but with the Can Buss control you can set it to be obnoxious. I used to go to work at 5am in the morning so I wanted a respectful exhaust until I put my foot down. Stainless steel construction too.
Even though its a badass 13:1 compression engine, that makes just under 1.50 hp per cubic inch... Just for comparison that's the same power per cubic inch as an LS1 making 520hp.... Its breathing well believe me, yet... sounds exactly the same as a 92hp honda with a fartcan doing a drive by in a walmart parking lot. None of them impress me really, for the power output of that engine, you'd think it sound insane. But nope, stock 90's Honda.
I'm not sure if it's just the audio quality, but the remark sounds awful. Hands down the worst by a texas sized country mile, whatever that means. And that's pretty bad considering that most of these exhausts sound pretty similar, with a few out liars. Most sound to droney or to raspy. otherwise, a little too honda Civic with a Universal ricer muffler. But there's a couple that give it that decent and proper classic jdm sound.
yup straight pipe will do that for you. Alternatively if you dont like the 'tone' of a straight pipe, exhausts like the manzo or ISR are loud but give you a clean deep sound.

@@tommymician121 I haven't driven a turbo ND but I have driven the most current ND with the more powerful motor and its pretty awesome. I also owned an S2000 and it was an awesome car too. My opinion is the S2000 was VERY raw and aggressive. The miata seems easier to drive. You really can't go wrong with either. Maybe if you want some more creature comforts the ND would be best. If you want a raw aggressive driving experience and a fast car, S2K. Porsche, I have no experience. Maybe one day 🙏

Absolutely ridiculous.What’s the point of fitting a noisy exhaust and annoying everyone else around? It’s the grownup equivalent of kids putting lollipop sticks in bicycle spokes so it sounds like a motorcycle. Pointless and irritating.
But these are not loud ? You're probably thinking about that civic douchebag with a straight pipe that always rolls up by your house at 3am, waking up your kid. Most of these sound like a regular sports car, fitting because the mx5s stock sound isnt anything special. The hush even has the option to turn on and off eletronically.

FM and HKS are the best for my taste. They're not as obnoxious or droney as most of the others, but aggressive enough to hear a major difference.

Cobalt twin is beautifully manufactured and fits perfectly at a reasonable price, perfect combination of sound with no drone on road 👍
Leaning towards the HKS Legamax. Dont want anything super loud just deeper than stock
Either Greddy, Borla, or Cobalt. They sound the cleanest without the rasp or ricer sound.
Currently have the borla and it’s great for every day use. Not too loud and doesn’t have an annoying drone at freeway speeds.

I did the cobalt axle back on my 2016. It’s pretty good for the money, not loud but there when you want it

muffler will just be the back part (main part) and catback means the pipe going from the catalytic converter all the way to the back.

I dont have actual experience with these but I would say a safe bet would be to stick to the oval muffler type exhausts. eg. Cobalt, FM Hushomatic etc
They're all more thoaty than stock so all worse. The least droning would be the flyin miata when it's set to quiet mode.

@@tommymician121 I haven't driven a turbo ND but I have driven the most current ND with the more powerful motor and its pretty awesome. I also owned an S2000 and it was an awesome car too.
My opinion is the S2000 was VERY raw and aggressive. The miata seems easier to drive. You really can't go wrong with either. Maybe if you want some more creature comforts the ND would be best. If you want a raw aggressive driving experience and a fast car, S2K.

Absolutely ridiculous.What’s the point of fitting a noisy exhaust and annoying everyone else around? It’s the grownup equivalent of kids putting lollipop sticks in bicycle spokes so it sounds like a motorcycle. Pointless and irritating.

You're probably thinking about that civic douchebag with a straight pipe that always rolls up by your house at 3am, waking up your kid. Most of these sound like a regular sports car, fitting because the mx5s stock sound isnt anything special. The hush even has the option to turn on and off eletronically.
