  • Quite busy tourist ride on 14/08/2019. Keeping it safe and fun, taking no risks. The brakes faded at Ex-Mühle downhill in Adenau, thankfully I was breaking early in safe mode.

    Magnifique. Smooth driving. Those Alfa Mitos were annoying. Shingo-san in the EG6 did a good job getting them out of the way!

    I like the moment when the driver turned the heating on, because we all know how much Subies like to overheat 😃 Good skills as well too many cars on the track as Nordschleife is quite narrow

      Hehe yes, the stock 5MT doesn't like too much torque and heat, so I changed it for a 6MT before it breaks!

      I was nervous on that one. It was the evening with the finest weather of the week, therefore everybody rushed to the track. I initially didn't want to even do one single lap that day, seeing how crowdy it was. It eventually became a bit more quiet before the closing, so I went for it and just did this lap :)

      Les combinés ont su se faire oublier, ça veut dire que ce sont de bonnes pièces :) Le roulis a énormément diminué, bon feeling de l'auto, et sur route ça reste vivable même si bien plus ferme que l'origine.

    is the 6-speed STI gearbox worth it? i have an 2007 "hawkeye" WRX and my goal is also around 300/320hp. my main goal is to get the 6 speed first but what are the costs?

      imo it's just worth for reliability reasons when increasing the torque. The horsepower is irrelevant here, only the torque and heat can destroy the stock 5-speed. If you are going for 40mkg (400Nm) and above, you better get the 6-speed if you can afford it.
      Pros :
      - Can take a lot of torque and therefore reliable, most likely will never break on you
      Cons :
      - Heavy
      - Expensive (I cant really tell, depends on what market you are in)
      - Used condition, can be in a not so good shape (my 6-speed has a faulty synchromesh)
      - Might require additionnal parts to fit (clutch, driveshafts etc, can't tell exactly for your model)
      - The gear ratios are made for an STI that takes 7000 rpm, and the WRX has a TD04 that is worth nothing above 6000rpm

      @@milossshhh999 Hey thanks for comment. Indeed in the latest video I have installed the STI rear differential, but in this video from 2019 I had only the STI gearbox at that time, with stock open diff at the rear!

    Hey mate, interested to know what tune they did to get that power figure on a stock 205/td04 set up?
    It seems like an exceptionally aggressive tune for a stock set up on e85

      Hey, basically the stock engine can deliver 280HP on E85, given an appropriate fuel pump and decat exhaust. But I'm talking flywheel HP I guess, not at all fours. My tuner doesn't dyno the car, it's estimated from road pulls using a software that turns out to be accurate enough for those who dynoed their car later. Also the stock injectors are working at their limit of course, but the car has been doing fine with this setup for 5 years now. In my case I added equal length headers, hence the extra HP. But I agree with you, it's maybe a bit overestimated. I have a stock-ish TMIC, intake temps are probably not good and I don't think the car is pulling 300HP consistently.

      Put a Vf35 or 39. That will bring you to 300 fairly easy. But no more than 330

      Well yes it's somewhere around 300HP. Does it feel more or less to you? Probably not super consistent due to the small top mount intercooler of the Subaru and its not very efficient hood scoop.

      @@TurboMaup Looks underpowered to me, the top mount intercooler suffers with temperatures well above 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit), in lower temperatures you should be fine. The Subaru STi GC8 is about 200kg lighter than the later models. I have an STi 2007 with about 400hp (with the origninal top mounted intercooler) and is faster than your car. With 300hp the GC8 in my humble opinion should be faster. Maybe you needs to check your car or put it on a dyno to know if everything is OK with it. MAF sensor check and cleaning is a good idea with older cars. Very nice video. Regards!

      A 400HP STI definitely pulls much harder than a 300HP GC8, the weight difference does not compensate the lack of horse power especially at high speeds, and my GC8 has to carry the weight of the 6-speed transmission...
      I'm also on a stock setup regarding turbo (TD04) and injectors, everything is pretty much at the limit. A slightly bigger turbo with less boost, and an STI TMIC (that I do have on a shelf but just not yet installed) would definitely help with the intake temps and horsepower consistency. But first things first... I need a full front brakes replacement for now, I cracked a disc on that Nürburgring trip. Stock calipers wont do anymore.

    Cool car and fun to watch, but you are blocking the Z4 in the very beginning. Please either move out of the way while you're warming up or drive faster. . . >:[ He paid for that lap too and wants to use all corners.

      I'm just starting easy to let the car warm up a bit, and I then find myself behind the slower GT86/BRZ. I'm just keeping it safe and not tailgating the car I'm following, unlike that BMW. Right after I overtake the Toyobaru, you can see I take the whole turn on the outside to let room for the BMW, because it is acting like it wants to overtake and can go super fast. Turns out it can't.

      @@TurboMaup It's not about you being faster here when you go full throttle. When someone is on your ass while you are warming up: move over, they are trying to pass you. You held him back during your warm up from second 0:40 through 0:52 of the video. Yeah, you let him by at 1:05 but at this point you were not warming up anymore, so he couldn't get by you.

      Firstly, I wasn't even faster than the BMW on a full throttle straight. You don't seem to understand that from 0:40 trough 0:52, I was myself held back by the Toyobaru. Like you say, the BMW was ON MY ASS. I'm smarter than that and wasn't myself ON THE ASS of the Toyobaru, I was just waiting at a fair distance to go full throttle. Having a row of cars tailgating each other is the best way to have a massive accident happen. Are you aware that tourist rides isn't a race event?

      @TurboMaup so were you blocked by the GT86 or were you taking it easy? Either way, if you are leaving 3 car lengths between yourself and the GT86 (0:40 - 0:52) in slow corners, same applies: move over. Clearly it's not a race which is why slower traffic stays to the right and lets others pass just like in normal traffic. You've admitted that you were taking it easy at first; therefore, move over. I count 3 corners between 0:40 - 0:52 where the Z4 was behind "slower traffic" during the warmup. You should have moved over at 0:42 at the latest given your intention to take it easy at first.
