Nice car and nice lap :) I'm thinking about buying the ST XTA for my STI Type R too. How do you like them, not too soft for the track I guess? Also did they fit without any wheel spacers? It seems like it could be tight for the rear wheels, what wheels, ET and width do you have for 225/45/17 to clear the coilover? I have 18x7.5 ET53 so not sure if I would need spacers? Thanks!
Thanks :) I totally forgot about the ST XTA when driving on the track... and in my book, a part that you can forget about is a great part that does its job! It felt good and not too soft, not too hard either. I had Kayaba AGX dampers with Eibach springs before, and with the ST XTA I have now much less body roll obviously. If you have instagram, you can check my profile (turbomaup) to see some pictures of the car in action on the Ring and have a look at the roll by yourself. You can also see appearances of my GC8 in this video th-cam.com/video/B0HSBwz0QAg/w-d-xo.html at 9'02 & 13'02... looks pretty planted to me! In addition, you can find an unboxing video of the ST XTA here on my channel if you want to have a closer look at what they look like for the GC8 (I'm speaking french in it though). They are nice coilovers in my opinion, the quality/price ratio has to be insane on these. Very affordable and yet it's the KW quality, with front top mounts included... hard to beat that. On the street, comfort wise, they do a great job at the front. At the rear they feel a bit stiff though, I wouldn't totally recommend them for a daily driver road car only, but the compromise is very nice if you track the car. After year 2000 Subaru models, the ST XTA are provided with progressive springs at the rear (instead of linear ones for GC8), which might give more comfort. Also, I have a stiffer sway bar than stock at the rear, it could explain why I find it not super comfortable back there. But really, I got used to it and I'm very happy with this upgrade.
Fitment can be tight at the rear depending on your wheels indeed. My biggest ones are STI wheels, so 17x7.5 ET53 (and 225/45R17 tires as you read in the description). It's pretty close to the strut's body, I'm quite at the minimal clearance recommended by ST in their manual : 5mm. Moreover, the bottom adjustable perch that supports the spring is obviously wider that the strut's body, and if you are set too low, it will be very close to (or touch) the tire. Your wheels have similar specs to mine, except it's 18". If your tires are low profile and 225 wide, it might fit. Otherwise, you might need spacers (but then, the fenders wont like it lol). Wheels fitment is a nightmare on Subaru, especially GC8!
@@TurboMaup Thanks for a very thorough reply :) You car looks great and doesn't seem to roll that much at all. At the moment I have some rock hard D2 coilovers from 2006 or so. These would be an improvement for ride comfort for sure. I have used KW coilovers or KW made stuff on my BMW's with good result. I felt the KW V1 were a bit on the soft side on my E36 M3 3.2 but I think they have progressive springs in the rear at least. Looking at you pics I'm pretty sure I would have to use spacers though. My ride height is a bit lower than yours and would be on the lower half of what the ST XTA are specified to. I only have 215/35/18 at the moment but the wheel itself would probably rub. The D2 coilovers just clear the wheel, but the spring perch on KW coilovers with helper springs sit further down on the strut housing. I think I could get away with 5mm spacers without rubbing the wheel arch but I'm not sure if it's enough to clear the wheel. Anyway some great info, you don't hear much about people using KW stuff on GC8's, I'll have to think about it for a while :)
@@turbovin I think the ST XTA can be compared to KW V2, in terms of possible settings and spring rates. For GC8, it's 60N/mm front and 40N/mm rear, in case you didn't have the info. The hydraulics in the strut allow for a decent comfort, much better than D2 coilovers I suppose, but still much firmer than OEM of course. If you really use 215/35R18 tires, then you will have more clearance than I do, you actually are very very close to the factory 205/50R16. My 225/45R17 = 317mm of radius Your 215/35R18 = 304mm of radius, and less width Your rims have the same offset and width than mine so they will clear the coilovers, and your tires present less sidewall. At an equivalent coilovers setting to my car, you would have a gap at least 10mm bigger than me between the tire and the spring perch, so you could lower your car 10mm more than mine. This is only theory, but it doesn't sound too bad for your fitment, unless you want to go much lower or mount bigger tires. About the wheel arch rubbing, I had the issue with ET45 rims (and a tire diameter similar to yours). The inner lip of my arch wasn't yet folded up, and scratched the sidewall of the tire. Didn't stop me from tracking the car though, it wasn't extremely bad. Now I've used a fender roller on the inside lips just to bend them up, and it's much better. So I think if you ever need 5mm spacers (so ET48 equivalent), you will be fine but might just need to take care of those lips if some rubbing happens.
@@TurboMaup How much camber do you run with these? The rear coilovers are slotted so that the hubs can be adjusted right? Is there some adjustment in the front also, are you supposed to use camber bolts there? I think I'll order a set and see what needs to be done to my car. 5mm spacers are perfectly fine to clear my arches, I think they are rolled from a previous owner.

Great driving
Superb. Out having fun, keep it up. From a fellow Scooby owner :)
Thanks :) Cheers!
Perfect car with perfect driver !!
This model with open diffs, without dccd ECC does it slide a little bit under throttle or it is just grip and understeer?
It understeers, no rear sliding from throttle action.
did u try to make rear sway bar stiffer and some camber up front like 2 deg
