    Always good to be retrospective on decisions in life, now where all my decisions put me where I am today, there is advice I wished I could tell myself earlier on that would have made this journey easier to this point.

    To me, videos like this are probably going to be ones you're most happy about making. Think about it from the perspective that 12 - 15 years from now you can point your kids to this video and say "this is my message to you, this is what you need to do to be successful in life."

    It is so true, I graduated not long ago with a “hard” degree and I feel like I know nothing. Rob isn’t lying, working hard is the best way to be successful. They will lend you whatever you “need” the college system is a debt system. Only go if college is paid for.

It is the best book I have ever found that explains exactly what calling your own shots is like. If you read it and you're excited then you're probably on the right path. So when I don’t need money, that’s when I start pulling low interest loans. You can always give the money back.

      You can travel (especially domestically within the US) for relatively little money, especially when sharing costs with friends. I would have framed the financial points as "create budgets for yourself...and stick to them!" You can save money while also putting aside a bit for leisure, but you absolutely must know what money you'll be bringing in and what money you'll be spending on a monthly/annual basis. I'm an accountant and even I didn't focus on this until later in my 20s. The earlier you start doing this, the better.

    • @thursdaybird
      @thursdaybird 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bbart609 I agree with your point; however, when Rob expounds on getting your passport and traveling abroad it becomes clear he means the kind of traveling the Mrs & I did for a few years after marriage (which is not conducive to savings).
      It just seemed confounding to my simple mind after hearing his presentation.
      -although, I must say we have had trips to foreign lands for less than $1,000/wk/each; that is quite do-able for anyone that doesnt require 3 star amenities in beautiful locations

    • @bbart609

    The shoveling one is how I bought my first (and technically second) car. Would shovel in Brooklyn since I was 12 or 13, short ass driveways and very wealthy people, and we would go early so we had people when they were leaving for work. Didnt spend my money and when I turned 16 worked part time through school. Bought a miata at 18 ($3k) even though I wanted a BRZ or FRS ($20k) thought it better to learn stick on a car I could beat to death. Bought a corvette at 21 ($25k) and didnt need a loan for either car. Saving money is huge and easy to do, but making it is a bit harder for sure, but possible and obtainable. Friends now are asking me about cars at the age of 23 and im shocked they dont have 8k saved for a down payment with real jobs... Current car is still the Miata as a project and a Lotus Elise and I am 23

    4:26 That $10-15/hr minimum wage guess by Rob made me curious. I knew he must have been guessing NY minimum wage instead of federal, so I looked it up. NY apparently has a $12.50 min for most areas, and $15/hr for Long Island for some reason, with the intent to raise the whole state to $15 over the next couple of years. California has a $14/hr minimum. (NY and CA are two of the most populated and highest cost of living in the US)
    Here in Ohio our minimum wage is $8.80/hr. That's quite a large difference from the above places. US Federal minimum wage is only $7.25. It's pretty wild to consider that there are states that have their minimum wage at basically double what the US Govt requires it to be, meanwhile there are *17* states that follow the federal minimum at $7.25 instead of raising it for their state. Interestingly, Georgia and Wyoming both have state minimum still set at $5.15 (which means they're required to follow federal.)

Also those not interested in the military the Philippines and Malaysia are stupid cheap countries to go you think you're poor in the states you'll be a millionaire in those countries. The average house price in my city is 700k USD. For young people now, they need to save at least $500 p/w to stay at 0 due to house prices increasing by 100% every 10 years. So young people now need to invest or save at least $700 p/w so they can afford to buy at the age of 30. Now the cost of travel has gone up, so a week in many countries would be at least $4k USD. Plus rent and accommodation expenses are so high that a small house in a bad area in my city is $500 USD p/w. So the average young person now needs to earn a minimum of $1500 USD if renting if they want a good future.
