@@rosskie320 That happened in Germany. And, as I happen to be German, let me explain to you how that works over here. If somebody runs into your car or otherwise damages it (or any other asset you own), you can charge them for the repair (in the case of a rim that would always be a replacement because repairing rims is illegal in Germany and will cause a car to no longer be considered roadworthy by the authorities, which may lead to the car being impounded by the police in a worst case scenario) but you do not need to actually repair it. You are free to do whatever you want with that money. If you don't mind having a fat dent in your car, you can go on a nice holiday or something instead. That does not matter. And rental car companies do not repair cars. They sell them if they can no longer be used for any reason. Therefore, he will never get that wheel and there is absolutely nothing he can do about it. Any second he spends thinking about that is a waste of time.
Based on certain manufacturers position statements, if certain parts/panels are damaged, said parts/panels are not recommended to be repaired. Replacement of said parts are recommended to be replaced. I think Mercedes has a position statement about their wheels requiring them to be replaced if damaged. That includes curb rash. That's just an example. I'm sure some body shops and or adjusters who work on high end cars can chime in to confirm or correct this. Source: am former insurance adjuster
Dude, is that even legal? I mean, at what point is someone stepping in to assess what's reasonable and what isn't. A LOT of what they've replaced is absolutely debatable...wow!
When a car is as new as that one is and has been damaged to that extent then the car owner would have the right to do this - in layman's patch repaired car would have significantly differing monetary value car that has been repaired (hence them wanting replacement). The price has mainly just been inflated due to the carbon fiber. I would also imagine if this went to court that Rob's insurance would only pay a certain percentage of the repair bill as his side would be able to reasonably argue the car was not properly protected (with PPF for example) for the purpose it was being used. An example of this would be Rob needing to pay all the labor and the other party needing to pay for the carbon if they accept they did not do enough to protect it from inevitable damage. But who knows the US court system can be weird haha
They should have informed Rob what was going on, and then Rob I am sure would have hopped on a plane and seen himself what was going on, instead they just did some shady Vegas sh!t.
how on earth are they saying it took nearly like 400 hours in total to replace the wheels, hood, front bumper and windshield?? like is that not an insane amount of hours for that repair? they charged you more money on labour to remove and replace parts then a fucking full respray would cost.
A few questions: 1. If you drove over a nail, or a piece of glass in the road, would you be on the hook for a new tire, too? 2. Why aren't rock chips considered normal wear and tear? 3. Do exotic car rental places offer extra, no-fault insurance like most normal rental car companies do?
As a mechanic boy, growing up working with cars and selling parts and cars. First off it takes awhile to get the parts for the car, one reason is it’s hard to find car parts , second mclaren parts takes awhile to have part’s delivered to the company . Proof of ours he on parts, call the dealer to confirm they were ordered/purchased. You want the old parts to confirm items were replaced. If you can produce items, pay what it cost to refinish them.
With some slim knowledge of mclaren parts here in the U.K., especially for limited run models, those parts haven’t been made yet never mind shipped and fitted.
How would the ceramic coat do for it? Why dont they use ceramic coat for the cars so they dont have to spend and charge that kind of price to buff out spots?
There's no freaking way they fixed that car already. Parts are so back ordered due to Corona that it's impossible to get stuff. I get the strong feeling they are trying to work you over and you won't be getting those parts.
Send someone up there to rent that McLaren. I bet it still has all the rock chips. Even on the glass. No way they replaced a McLaren 620R windscreen without waiting months for it to arrive from overseas, especially on such a limited run car...
I think a couple of companies do make purpose-made temporary clear bra solutions, either as a roll of malleable and lightly adhesive material, or a spray-on/peel-off (kinda like clear plasti-dip or something). Hell though, for $100k you could have just bought a 12C and sold it on the other end and broken even (maybe with a rental-fees worth of taxes assuming no Montana plate).
Diplomatic rentals employs an “influencer” in which they use him to giveaway things to his followers, what the followers have to do is leave a good review as if they use their services
I can understand why rental companies don't get PPF on their cars so they can up-charge for any and all damages and create additional revenue that way, and I know paint protection film won't protect you from ALL rock chips. However, after personally experiencing how much of a difference it makes, I can't imagine why anyone would NOT put PPF on a super car - especially one that's going to be driven, the peace of mind alone is worth it
I mean if they were SO concerned about rock chips, they should take appropriate measures to protect the car (clear bra, coating, etc.). It's like buying a phone that is going to be USED daily, then complaining that the screen has scratch on it.
I would also ask for some pictures of the car with the fully replaced parts as it sits. Even though it's unlikely they did any/all of the work already, it would still be possible for them to do it at a lowered cost with used parts and make money on the difference once they know you'll agree to pay. If they already did the work, there won't be any issues showing you the fully fixed car immediately.
I'm interested to see the update on this video as well as how you would have handled it if it had been your own McLaren. Especially since it's 620r is a more limited production model. Also as to whether you think that these guys are being legit because it doesn't feel that way

Pay a friend to go hire the car for the afternoon and get them to meet you somewhere to go over the car and visually in person check to see if new parts were in fact put on
No way they spent $100,000 grand to fix that car. Rob you should def invest in training someone to clear bra your adventure drive cars maybe even your rental cars doesn’t have to be a perfect job but seems like a good investment.
Its plausible IF they went crazy and just replaced everything.

Repaired for a few thousand and they pocketed the $80,000. I’ll take all the parts you “replaced”. Call Larry Casulla at AMMO detailing for clear bras.
I really like how he always says, "fine I'll pay, but you send me the old parts". He is absolutely certain that they just repainted and not replaced most parts. If they are trying to overcharge (one of) the most well known car rental guy, imagine what they are doing to the rest of their customers. Next step, Rob casually mentions that he will drop their name on TH-cam. This looks like it is going to be fun for us.
Opt for that rental insurance!
lol, they did not "already fix it" Who re-builds an entire car in-between rentals for some rock chips?
They are now looking for some second hand parts to buy to send you to justify scamming you for $100k
Sounds like they took you for a ride tbh. Pretty unacceptable they fixed the entire car knowing it would be over $100,000 without even informing you lol. I think this was their end goal. replace all the parts and then sell all the damaged parts themselves to make a quick 20K-30K (or more, I have no idea what those parts would be worth lol)
or just return the new parts if Rob doesnt ask for the old ones
Mclaren is notorious for the time they take to ship parts, there is no way that company got those parts that fast and did all the work. When was this trip not even a month ago.
@@musti7516 Yes, that surprised me, too! Over here in Europe the situation may not be so bad. I guess parts for in production McLarens may arrive within two to eight weeks. But I think it will take considerably longer for these to get to the USA. Yeah, there's no way they got new 620R parts within like a week and also got everything done, you can't even get a Ford Fusion done that fast. LOL. These dudes are scammers.
I call BS that it’s already repaired with “new parts” considering the current state of the world supply chain -
It would be completely impossible to get all these new parts for a brand new low production McLaren in 2 weeks even in 2019, they just don't have $60 grand spares floating around in dealer inventory.
So they get to fix it. If Rob said, "yeah, fix it". Then ok
If they fix it with without asking the driver? Nah, lawsuits

They knew who you were when they rented the cars; they know you have moderately deep pockets they could rummage in.
What a stupid argument. I'm sure they have much wealthier clients, it's not like Rob is a billionaire or something. It's also not like they asked Rob to sand blast the front of their 620R and curb a couple of the wheels.
Ask for parts and materials receipts. It's your right. A legit shop has no problem whatsoever with it
I'm never going to rent an expensive car. I owe 100k on my house and it will be another 15 years till I'm done.
Your only choice is to rent it again and total it. 💯🔥

On today's episode, Mr. Spaghetti tells us why it's not a good idea to eat other people's spaghetti.

They came up with this as soon as they saw the video. Easiest 100k they've ever made.
I would ask for confirmation from
Mclaren for those parts they ordered, to the serial numbers, then lets see if they have it.
“Impossible to prevent”
Rob let me introduce you to the world of PPF film.
Next time you’re renting and get some rock chips, just have the car sand blasted bare, drive it in, return it, and pay for the respray. Save 80 grand?
at this point, anything mclaren related is going to come with large expenses and headaches
And also lose value
Used to work at a dealership would be common to charge “new parts” and get them refinish and “oem” parts would body filler over the off brand stamps and refinish them. Good call on asking for the old parts.
i think Diplomat Exotic Rental out of Nevada would appreciate several "reviews" came from us on their page..
For those who want to know: Rob said they rented the cars from Diplomat Exotic Rentals in Las Vegas in a previous video.
Jesus, thats more than a few rock chips. It looks like you took it down a gravel rally stage... for a week. I have literally never seen this type of damage. The headlamps look like they have been sand blasted!
Gee, let me guess, Royal Exotics? I asked one time before I considered renting from them about what happens if the car gets damaged while I'm driving. The answer I got was like, we take your first born. I'm not that hard up to drive a Ferrari or McClaren if it is not mine.
I mean that brand new car was absolutely destroyed 😂 stevie wonder must have been driving to curb wheels like that
Well that answered the question I asked in the last video and that was why would they let the car out on any rentals without PPF made literally no sense whatsoever, now I know why, ........hard to get $100k claims paid for rock chips when the PPF can just be pulled off and replaced for a fraction of the cost
How did they even get the parts that fast. I know the paint only comes from the manufacture and it’s around $800 a quart.
It's not impossible to prevent rock chips lol. Get some proper PPF like xpel. I did my whole C7 when I bought it new. Zero rock chips/scratches...

Did you ever get the Germany rental damage rim?
Why would he? This has never been replaced.
@@englyn1 he was going to ask for the rim back since they charged him for a replacement. way back when. He said he would update us but never has, unless I missed it somehow.

@@Joelda23 Really? I'm genuinely surprised.
There are only 70 620Rs in north America. Zero chance any body panels were replaced. It hasn't even been enough time to get an order approved.

Yea but at least he was going to repair it until they came up with the 100k invoice bs
How did you fawk up the car that bad? Rock chip situation lol, those wheels? Damn bro Stevie wonder driving that brand new 1000 mile McLaren?
how on earth are they saying it took nearly like 400 hours in total to replace the wheels, hood, front bumper and windshield?? like is that not an insane amount of hours for that repair? they charged you more money on labour to remove and replace parts then a fucking full respray would cost.
Not to mention original paint on mclarens is known to be fucking terrible lol
Rock chips should count as general wear tear as long as not excessively big

A few questions:
1. If you drove over a nail, or a piece of glass in the road, would you be on the hook for a new tire, too?
2. Why aren't rock chips considered normal wear and tear?
3. Do exotic car rental places offer extra, no-fault insurance like most normal rental car companies do?
Did they never hear of PPF?
As a mechanic boy, growing up working with cars and selling parts and cars.

However, after personally experiencing how much of a difference it makes, I can't imagine why anyone would NOT put PPF on a super car - especially one that's going to be driven, the peace of mind alone is worth it
Imagine being able to just piss away $100k like that?
I mean if they were SO concerned about rock chips, they should take appropriate measures to protect the car (clear bra, coating, etc.).
It's like buying a phone that is going to be USED daily, then complaining that the screen has scratch on it.
Today, Mr. Spaghetti pays a very pasta rich price of $100,000 for some extra spicy cheesy orange decorum.
Nope need a lawyer for that one.... wouldn’t be paying that bill
Imagine paying $100,000 for spaghetti and they don't even give you the meatballs
I'm interested to see the update on this video as well as how you would have handled it if it had been your own McLaren. Especially since it's 620r is a more limited production model.
