    • @channell11
      @channell11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Just like Range Rovers. Huge hunks of junk, break all the time. But people keep buying them because of the prestige. The company has no incentive to make them reliable. People that buy McClarens buy them because they want to be unique and not have the same Ferrari/Lambo that everyone else has. They may be more tolerant of issues.

    • @RevAlSharptonz
      @RevAlSharptonz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I’m truly baffled at the amount of morons that buy Range Rovers. A mechanic shop that’s right near my office specializes in British cars and there are never less than 5 Land Rovers (majority are Range Rovers) there getting lengthy repairs. There are Minis and Jags regularly too, but he has to make at least 80% of his profits off of the Land Rover brand.
      I will walk over there occasionally when a Bentley appears there for service.

    • @venom5809

      @@channell11 What's bizarre is everyone knows they are junk and yet I have never seen more Range Rovers and Land Rovers in my life than in the last few years, they are selling better than ever. LOL. Just last year I had to talk my aunt out of buying a Velar which by the way I love how it looks and considered one myself but no, just no.

    • @ViolentMLG
      @ViolentMLG 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They stay in business because of a warranty. Just like most luxury brands.
      Could 'prestige' or other things be a part of it? Sure, but its typically not the main concern.
      People come at these vehicles from a practicality standpoint, but you have to realize people who buy these vehicles are not worried about 'practicality', if you have the money to go out and buy a brand new supercar of any type, you're not worried about the 70K+ depreciation hit you'll take within a few years.
      In reality most of their customers have enough money to buy one for 3-5 years and replace it. They might even lease it.
      That means that, in 3-5 years they might rack up 1K-4K miles, do 0 maint on it, and replace it as soon as its out of warranty, rinse and repeat.
      So reliability isn't a concern, so if you just want your best bang for the buck high performance car, or maybe you just want your favorite car, whatever it is, you buy it.
      To some people, losing 100K in a few years isn't a 'bad' investment for fun, or as I said, they lease it, saving them money, but these people are the type who can afford it, IE, not your average person.
      Luxury cars are the same, as a commenter mentioned range rovers, people buy range rovers because they're some of the BEST luxury SUV's out there, if not THE best if we're being honest, however they break down. In warranty, not so much, so its worth dealing with, but outside of warranties, its nightmares, but the people who buy directly from these companies can lease one and deduct it from their taxes. To them a $1500/month rental bill for a brand new range rover that is essentially the best out there isn't allot when they're making 30K-100K+ a month.
      They're paying for the best, newest vehicle.
      Most people out here buy cars for $400/month while making $2000/month. You're spending roughly 1/4th your income on a car, they spend roughly 1/20th, and you wonder why they buy them? Its not a hassle.

    Tyler Hoover bought an "early model" McLaren(like a 2012 or so) for cheap, it was in the shop for 2/3rds of his ownership. I believe his had a warranty, but I mean what sort of freaking value proposition is that?? Spend 100k on a car for it to break about every 3rd time you drive it and have it sit at the dealer waiting on parts/repairs for months at a time.
    I mean I get old cars being temperamental, but this thing was less than 10 years old. I don't expect Toyota levels of reliability/durability, but when you can't just get in the car and drive on any nice weather day, its a turd IMO. I mean especially if you live up north, McLaren breaks in April, it sits in the shop until mid June, you just lost 1/3rd of the time of the year you can drive it.

    McLarens suffer from even worse dealer price inflation for service than Ferrari/Lamborghini. And a lot of them don't seem interested in fixing things that could be easily repaired-they just want to replace an entire assembly at an exorbitant cost. There's been plenty of people that have figured out that if they find a good shop or even work on the cars themselves the repair costs can be plenty reasonable. There's also been evidence to suggest that McLaren has at least been taking customer complaints to heart and working on build quality.

    Jeez, yea it sounds like a terrible value proposition. My guess is they rely on people who have more money than brains andor out of touch and don't really care if they have to spend 30k for a power steering flush because it's not noticeable to them. I think they get a benefit because the people who buy them WANT them, where-as you can buy a Ferrari or Lambo just for the name and not know shit about it, but you have to know a small degree about cars to want a Mclaren, so I think it's harder to substitute when you purchase too (similar to the rental substitution situation you described). So I think the dealers benefit from that because they don't need to give you even a "decent" deal - ANY deal will work for their clients, I reckon.
    .
    PS: I wanna hear more about the rock chip, and also PLEASE explain to us how we can justify renting a McLaren and being on the hook for 100k out of pocket. I can justify 5k on a few day exotic rental, but I can't risk 100k on said rental.

    Mclaren is that super hot high maintenance girl you date that is super fun and exciting at first, then turns toxic 1-2years in and you get rid of it before it burns a hole in your wallet.

    I believe the best Mclaren will be Tavarish's. It has already been crashed beyond repair, repaired beyond the wildest expectations, lost all of its value, and will just be an extremely fun and relatively cheap sports car.
