APOPHIS : Earth's Awaited Encounter with the Returning Asteroid || JOURNEY TO THE STARS EP - 25 ||

Asteroid Apophis, also known as 99942 Apophis, is a near-Earth asteroid that gained attention due to initial calculations that suggested a small probability of it colliding with Earth in the future. It was discovered on June 19, 2004, by astronomers Roy A. Tucker, David J. Tholen, and Fabrizio Bernardi at the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona.
The initial concerns about a potential impact were later ruled out after more refined observations and calculations. As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, the most recent predictions indicate that Apophis will pass by Earth at a safe distance during its close approach in 2029. The closest approach is expected to be on April 13, 2029, when Apophis will come within approximately 19,000 miles (31,000 kilometers) of Earth's surface, which is closer than some geostationary satellites.
While the 2029 pass is not expected to result in an impact, the encounter will provide a valuable opportunity for astronomers to study the asteroid and refine their understanding of its orbit. Scientists continue to monitor Apophis and other near-Earth objects to assess potential future threats and to develop strategies for planetary defense if necessary.
