  • In preparation for this year's Lynx Brutality, organised by ‪@PolenarTactical‬ in Slovenia, Bloke put a Holosun 503 on his famous Australian International Arms M10A1 "Frankenrifle" in 7.62x39 (a modernized Lee-Enfield based rifle) and took it out to 300m with some unconscionably expensive SAKO ammunition and a Holosun 503 red dot to see what it would do (and how high he had to aim when zeroed at 50m... What happened?

    1.8 MOA...that's better accuracy than any self loading AK, at least from what 9 Hole Reviews found out based on their testing with everything including a quite boujie Galil ACE.

    • @foleymaj
      @foleymaj ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I do wonder if a Valmet, especially some early series ones, could do something around that. The FDF apparently had very strict demands for accuracy, which is why things like chroming the barrels was not done because doing it in a way that would retain the accuracy was too expensive. FDF is shooting Lapua 7.62x39 during peace time, so probably semi-decent just like this SAKO ammunition.
      Obviously, there's only so much you can do with semi-autos and an AK action, but Valmet/Sako and SIG-550 -series do prove that with good production quality you can make that system pretty accurate as well.

    • @eloiseharbeson2483
      @eloiseharbeson2483 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 7.62x39 is a stupidly precise cartridge out a bolt gun. My CZ 527 in that caliber regularly shoots surplus steel-cased ammo to 2moa. That Sako ammo was not as impressive as I had hoped.

    • @BlokeontheRange
      @BlokeontheRange  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The thing is that a cartridge is just an arbitrary-shaped volume to hold a particular bullet. There's no real magic there provided it's not excessively big or too small to drive the bullet you want at the speed you want.

    • @MsTugg
      @MsTugg ปีที่แล้ว

      Cartridge case shape does in fact have a part to play in accuracy, specifically from powder burn and gas flow. Straighter walls, case wall depth, primer pocket depth to cade head web thickeness, shoulder angle all play into powder burn concentricity and brass neck flow. This is why rounds like the 6mm ppc, 7mm BR, WSM/WSSM and PO ackley cartridges are more easy to make accurate than their conventionaly shaped gently angled bottle neck cousins. It is also why straight wall cartridges, especially long (over 2.4") ones, are difficult to extract good accuracy out of. The long narrow powder column has to burn in a different volumetric and time phased release often resulting in less consistent pressure at the bullet base than a wider case body flowing into a smaller caliber neck.

    7.62x39 can be very accurate. I found that out out when i reloaded some with good bullets shot from an AK. The last AK i built i used the FN CHF barrel I got from Palmetto. Good barrel good ammo,funny how that works. Problem is most shoot bad ammo out of not so good barrels and an AK is not free floated. My next gun i wanted a 7.62x39 bolt gun to see how accurate it could be. You just showed us. The only limitation is range. Prob a 300yd and in gun. But we have always known that about the AK.

      high firerate it is nice gun to shoot if it doesnt stop by malfunction which that gun
      is infamous.
      But im willing to give that much of slack to least agree that decades old machines
      used by conscripts will worn out any machinery to not run like engineer intended.
      And least that example what i used in that training day and after training just
      ammo dumping to targets run perfectly fine whitout single malfunction.
      Even with multiple belts with just tracer rounds.

      In my knowledge Lapua stopped making 7.62x39 least for commercial market in while.
      But i guess they started printing them in smaller patches again in last year for some unknown reasons.
      Least in Finland i can find Lapua made stuff in sale. It was totally out of order in while before
      it started to appear again in shelfs.
      But lets be honest all reservist/competion shooters who have any other than Valmet/Sako made
      rifle will shoot cheapest shit you have in store.
      And unfortunately Lapua being closer to 2e at round is definition not cheap.
      Funny thing to have so little market for such good quality ammo in their homeland.
      Kind of strange to Sako or Tikka never release non semi-automatic rifle in that caliber
      where its accuraty potential could actually be used by quality ammo.
      Bit of missed opportunity in my mind.

      Sako is cheaper option if you still want good quality but are not willing to pay 1.5x more for extra precision what Lapua
      offers.
      And like Petri already said imagine couple lmg belts loaded with Lapua fmj and you just
      had to make them disappear because those were already marked as used in training.
      And if that was not enough wastefull then imagine couple extra belts loaded with just
      Lapua made tracer rounds because somene ordered couple boxes too many of them.
