    I want the best, but I am realistic.
    I have no plans to be the next guy in a nightvision raid in some sandbox in the middle east, and I'm sure all the nightvision I'll need in the near future will be measured in lumens and candela.

    Holosun has done excellent in giving the gun community the best budget options hands down. I do still believe the high $cost$ red dots are worth investing in....at least one for a primary fighting rifle, just like it may be a good idea everyone own at least one revolver, or one Glock no matter if you like them or not.

    Great review. One other important consideration for some is the combat aspect. Eotech is superior for rugged environments due to it being tried and true in combat and that it can operate even if the glass is broken. This is unlikely for most but it does offer some comfort to those fielding it in extremely austere environments. Eotech is very expensive and I think most users will prefer the holosun. I do dislike the fuzziness that eotech has on very bright settings but as a former combat infantryman I can recommend that all optics should be fired on their lowest brightness setting where the optic is visible otherwise you’re increasing moa thereby reducing accuracy. That is true for all optics. The brighter the reticle the bigger the dot and less precision. The auto on feature is pretty cool also. The optic will always be in the move in tactical environments but long battery life makes it okay. If I grab my weapon the sight comes on. Pretty cool. Hopefully eotech will go that route as well. I do love the solar panel for no battery operation. It would be interesting to know whether or not holosun has configured it to only use battery when in low light pulling from solar first. For military applications batteries are a limitless supply and frequently replaced. For civilians that becomes a huge expense. I imagine that holosun uses solar first and that’s the reason for extreme battery longevity. Additionally you could pack more batteries with less space for holosun. If holosun solar is damaged or the glass is broken users may encounter big problems. Eotech is extremely rugged and ensures that the worst of situations can be prevented. Their engineering is centered around military operations. I might have purchased holosun if I had seen this review first. I just know eotech can take one hell of a beating and maintain zero and is well trusted amongst the most elite fighting forces of the us military. I’ll have to look into magnifiers options for holosun. Maybe I’ll pick it up as well. Great review!!!! Thanks for this.

    • @jpowens2253
      @jpowens2253 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Holosun solar panel runs the optic whenever possible and the battery runs it when solar isn't available. The battery life is only including the battery's life, not in conjunction with solar.
      I should also mention the "hood" that goes around the optic is titanium and only connects at the base so energy from a hard hit does not transfer through the glass.

      I know a couple of operators and they both pooh poohed the eotech saying the preferred the T2. I was surprised about that. I have been around long enough to know your first thought is probably too question my references, but I'd rather hear what you have to say about the Aimpoint T2 if you've ever used it.

    • @Knight_of_the_Old_Code
      @Knight_of_the_Old_Code 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@michaelmappin4425 I know your question wasn't directed towards me, but if I may offer an opinion: I am not an operator, but I do own a T2 and an EXPS3. I prefer my EOTech simply because it rocks at CQB and even out to mid-range distances, is built like a tank, has a large FOV, the reticle is awesome, and it looks/works great using NODS. I was really dismayed when I got my brand new T2 and discovered that in order to see it in bright daylight I have to crank it all the way up to settings 10, 11, or 12. Apparently the new ones are not as bright as the old ones from everything I've read on ar15.com.
      However, even with that being said, my philosophy has always been get what works best for you and train with it a lot in order to become proficient...and carry spare batteries regardless of battery life.

    Holoson is a decent red dot no doubt. Lots to like about them, especially when they first came out. They were affordable and for the most part pretty dependable. For $120.00 it was well worth it. Fast foward to 2021, Holoson is pushing $300.00 or more, where as EOTECH is still $450.00 for a 512. If I'm in my yard shooting targets, either is fine. You can stick a cr123/aa's in your pistol grip or butt stock. It turns off by itself after 4 or 8 hours and last continuously on for over a month, the reticle even flashes when its low. The cr123 batteries will last a whole year even with passive drain, you'd have to have it on 1 to 2 hours a day to go through it in a year. That said, you do see police body cameras of guys forgetting to turn on their eotechs all the time, but they are cops so they fuck up a lot anyways.

And then put a 3x magnifier in front of both on it to try to hit a 10 inch circle out to 300 yards and parallax error of 5-10 MOA on the Holosun means missing the target even with good elevation hold-overs (like on the Eotech XPS 3-4 or 3-2).

    They’re both great. The eotech is hands down better and has been proven in battlefields. The thing is that I don’t need those areas of better. I don’t use NV nor do I plan on being shot at. The holosun is better in other areas that suit my needs. I want long battery life, small package, crisp reticle (I have an astigmatism), solar power, lightweight, and shake n wake, baby. I just tested a 507k, which I plan on getting for my p365, and that reticle was so crispy that I thought they deep fried it lol. I personally thought that all reticles would look like crap to me since my two sig sauer red dots look like trash compared to the holosun. Turns out that sig sauer is just trash when it comes to reticle quality with my eyes. I love sig but their red dots don’t play nice with an astigmatism. Both my Romeo 5 and Romeo zero look like stars (they look okay outside in the sun though). Holosun is putting out some good shit lately that’s giving eotech a run for their money. Yes I know eotech is better but they might need to hit the drawing board soon.

    Some additional things I believe the Eotech has over the holosun are 1) if the glass breaks it still works 2) The center dot stays 1 MOA when magnified, shooting out farther is easier, because the dot doesn’t cover the target. 3x on a 2 MOA holosun is now a 6 MOA dot. 3) holographic has little parallax, so if you do use nods there is some flexibility on eye positions. LED’s typically are not parallax free although holosun seems to imply it maybe is on this optic.

    • @TacticalAccountants
      @TacticalAccountants  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's entirely possible my brain is too simple to understand the magnified 1 MOA thing but I honestly don't. At 1x the dot has a size, which is roughly 1 inch at 100 yards. At 3x the dot has the same size relative to the target, and will appear roughly 3x bigger through the magnifier. The same applies for 2 MOA dot. 1x3 = 3, not 1. I actually did the Lego figure thing to see this for myself. It's not clear to me that the EOTech dot looks much smaller magnified.

    I have a couple XPS2-0s and recently picked up a 510c in red. The 510c lives on an indoor home defense rig, due to its open emitter design. I just don't like how easy it is to block the emitter in the field rendering it useless untill it's cleaned out. The XPS-2, on the other hand, easily overcomes field grime with it's sealed system. Simply wipe off the glass and your back in business. Just my 2 cents.

    couple of points. The Holosun performs better in NVG environment with just the dot. it removes a lot of the bloom. secondly, the 1MOA of the Eotech doesnt come into its own until you are magnifying targets beyond 100 yards. at 200+ yards, the 2moa of the holosun is covering and obscuring the entire target. finally, the EOtech optic will still operated should the front lense of the unit get damaged or broken since it doesnt require the optic to reflect off of it. Thats why you see so many airsofters with that little plastic shield in front of their optic. one errant 6mm bb and that 400 dollar optic is now a paperweight.

    Strictly speaking on Night Vision performance here. I was pleasantly surprised that the 510c performed nearly as well just using the single dot reticle, if not a little better, in certain areas than the Eotech. No blooming or distortion of the reticle.
    Where the 510c beats Eotech is the housing profile. The reticle truly looks like a dot floating in space since the housing is almost completely blurred out. Can't say the same for the Eotech, as its housing is very noticeable under Night Vision.
    The glass clarity is negligible in near pitch black environments and only improves with more ambient light. Where the 510c falters is glass warpage, whereas the Eotech virtually has none. If that's more important to you, then I understand why you'd pick the Eotech over the Holosun. All in all, from my personal experience, the 510c is an excellent alternative for NV use.

  • @rmp5s

    I went EOTech because of the NV performance and because holographic sights don't change when used through a magnifier like RDS reticles do. I have a 3X magnifier on a QD/swivel mount behind mine. This means, no matter what...close range, slight distance, NV, etc...I'm good to go. I can use the 3X, push it out of the way temporarily or quickly take it off completely. Versatility ftw.
    I had a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 LPVO for a bit before this and, not only was it huge and heavy, I could NOT get used to the eye box. At all. I hated it. I would like to try a high(er?) end LPVO at some point but honestly, I could keep my current setup forever and be happy.

    One advantage of a true holographic sight vs a red dot is if the glass gets broken, and a big enough piece remains, the reticle and dot will still be projected and usable. A red dot is done.
    Another is the red dot requires your eye to focus on the red dot focal plane then to the targets focal plane. You can't keep the both in focus. The holographic sight allows for this, reducing parallax. The laser and mirrors make your eye believe the reticle is in the same plane as the target. A very simplistic explanation.
    I use an EOTECH on my Tavor and love it. My only issue is the EOTECH sits high with the quick release, I need to find a cheek weld pad to help with that, no joy. Anyone have any good ideas?

    The Holosun has an LED emitter, whereas the Eotech uses a true laser emitter. Accordingly, there will be differences in rate of battery usage between the two devices. As far as I understand, the use of a holographic laser makes the Eotech a true passive IR source (it can't be seen by other IR devieces) and fully compatible with all NV equipment. I don't think the same can be said of the Holosun.
