      Glad you did this video. Just picked up some Hornady Black .308 ammo. Anxious to try it myself. Just put a new Athlon Talos BDC 600 IR scope on the .308, so I hope the combo works good.

    I bought this rifle, and used that hornady black and drilled both deer this last season with it at around 150yds and it absolutely demolished the heart and was super impressed. Also shoots very accurate on paper. Love it. If any of y’all are lookin for other cheaper steel. Barnaul 123gr fmj has been supremely accurate in the rifle as well. Happy shooting fellas

    7.62x39 is one of my favorite cartridges. See if you can track down the 154gr soft points, they're real eye openers. Out of my AR they'll go half moa to 300yds

    I have a Mini-30 and for a long time, I used the Hornady SST that had a coated steel case. They quit making them and came out with the Hornady Black, which is the same thing, but with a brass case. I later bought the Ruger American Ranch and use the Hornady Black most of the time. However, I have also gotten very good results from the Winchester Power-Points and use them when deer hunting. The 1" grouping of the Ruger Ranch is not unusual. Great light weight, low recoil, dependable and accurate rifle.

    I'm an eye witness! That was a great group considering how much the target was jumping around... I hate when that happens. LOL The 7.62 x 39 is designed to wound man-sized targets, it is an excellent meat hunters tool. Never handled it in a bolt action. Is it just me or does the bucket list keep growing the older you get?

    My Ranch is an earlier model in 5.56 with rotary 5 round mag. I changed a load and was testing 2 powder charges 3gr apart. 5 rounds each over a chronograph. The entire 10 round group measured a hair under .9”. That was outstanding considering my rests front and back weren’t the best. I’ve since had a visit from a coyote in the snow and nailed it at 220+ from my deck rail! Ruger nailed it with the Ranch!!! Thanks for the video! That 7.62x39 is a heck of a shooter!

    The Com-Bloc rimless 30/30
    is a very capable hunting round
    and IIRC is the basis for the
    very accurate PPC target rounds.
    I can only imagine the boo-hoos from those seeing
    the accuracy of that short
    barreled relatively inexpensive
    rifle

    Ive got a few friends that have this rifle and I love it! They consistently shoot 1 inch or less groups with wolf and other steel cased ammo. The first time one of my friends brought one on a ram he trip right after he got it to sight it in. We both were so surprised how accurate it was. He had his rifle bore sighted so he just had to adjust it by like less than in inch up and to the right. But that first 5 shot group we were thinking was a fluke. He made his adjustments, shot another 5 shot group and the same thing! Freaking .75” group!! After that two of our other friends that were there went and bought themselves one that day! Unfortunately because of covid I don’t have the cash to buy one yet. But I plan on it. I was selling cars and Covid hit my pocket book HARD! No sales no income, thats commission. I was already getting tired of selling cars, so it gave me to push I needed to get another job and go back to school. Just sucks taking a 60% cut in pay. But when I’m done with school in a couple years I’ll be making more than I was and more consistently, with a degree in instrumentation. Just weird going back to school at age 40. I’m the old guy in all my classes lol. But I gotta do what I gotta do. I wasn’t going to be a bum and not work and take advantage of the extra government money like a lot of people I know did. Some that were waiting tables or bartending didn’t go back to work until the extra money stopped because with the unemployment and other things it added up to more money than working. I couldn’t do that. Yes I had to sell most of my guns and other things to get by but I feel better about doing that than being lazy and taking government money for doing nothing. But when I’m done with school I plan on building my gun collection back up and adding this rifle to it for sure. Appreciate your videos, keep up the good work!!

    Those Hornady SSTs have a slightly higher BC than FMJ. But, the powder Hornady uses might burn a little hotter than the steel case stuff. Either could explain the POI shift.

      Remington made very very good firearms for a very long time. I've had my share of rifles from them over the decades and they've all shot well. However, Ruger and Savage make rifles that will hang with Remington all day every day.

    I've used this ammo in my 7.62x39 AR and it shot pretty decent but I also tried some Winchester XP and it shot that the best so I stuck with it. I know a lot of hunters that swear by the SST round and I've heard some say it likes to splinter but I can't confirm that it does. I've harvested many axis deer and hogs at night with the Winchester XP rounds, they really get the job done. I'm glad I stocked up on them before the ammo shortage happened, very hard to come by these days unless you want to pay 5 times as much for them on gunbroker.

    I gathered up 7 different loads to test in my cz527. When the smoke cleared I was shocked to see barnaul 123gr soft point rule the roost with a .75in 5 shot group! I even had lapua stuff, at almost $2 a round, still beat out by $.36 steel cased russian stuff! Luckily I bought 2500 rounds of the stuff so, if I want to hunt with that sweet little bolt gun, I'm set for life! Luckily, all 5 cases of the barnaul are the same lot# too!

    I was super happy to see you get your hands on this ammo. I just bought a box of this hornady and a box of winchester deer season XP for my savage scout in 7.62x39 to try out and see how they work. would love to bag a buck and or a bear this season with it.

    Big fan of the Ruger American rifles. Have one in .243 and one in 6.5 Creedmoor. Both are sub minute with a variety of factory ammo and under .75" with handloads. They remind me of Remington 788s back in the day. One note, both of my rifles rubbed a bit on the left side of the barrel channel up at the forend tip. 5 min with a file to get them fully floated.

    Just found 4 boxes of this stuff at Dunhams in Columbia TN today. Not cheap but couldn’t believe it. Never seen this on the shelf. Only three boxes on the shelf when I left if you know what I mean. Going to use it in my AR pistol for some in the woods deer hunting. Hoping to get some close encounters in the thick this late in the season. Love your video library. You truly cover many bing bangs and boolots. Helps us out for sure.

      @sleeper.simulant7327 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@keithmaxwell2169 7.62x39 doesn’t hit as hard as 30/30. It uses lighter bullets to match a 30/30’s velocity. 30/30 packs like 400 more ft lbs of energy as well

    • @keithmaxwell2169

    • @sleeper.simulant7327
      @sleeper.simulant7327 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@keithmaxwell2169 no it’s not lol. 30/30 160 grain Hornady FTX leaves the barrel at over 2400 fps with just over 2000 ft lbs of energy. The Hornady black 123 grain projectile in this video leaves the barrel at 2350 fps and 1580 ft lbs of energy. So it’s a lighter bullet traveling slower, meaning it won’t penetrate as well. The 30/30 is the more powerful round. The lighter, longer 7.62 round will be more accurate at range though…
