      I personally believe, the way its written out, "winged insect" rather than moth is to show insignificance, and "Funeral Pyre" rather than flame is to suggest tragedy. Its a personal theory, but it brings so many more layers to it.

If you’ve ever been in a heartbreak situation, you relate sooooo deeply to the pain this induces and then when the album ends with Euclid you know you made through the most toxic and terrible shit ever but you still made it. You’re okay and it does get better and you grow from it. Beautiful band and amazing music doesn’t even begin to explain it.

      @@AkairuNoAmemy favourite callback out of all of them is Euclid calling back to TNDNBTG
      I ugly cried the first time hearing the way Vessel sung "The whites of your eyes, turn black into lowlight[...]". And when I listened to Euclid for the first time, the culmination of feelings from every album together signed off at the end of the song by the callback make me breakdown mentally but in such a good way.
      To me Sleep Token is healing. Their three albums are a process of all stages of grief in a broken relationship. Never has any band been able to encapsulate the feeling I have for being betrayed better than them and I am ever so grateful for it.
      I could sit down and talk about each individual song for hours. Unfortunately I don't have friends that are that much into Sleep Token so I can't really do that 😂😂

    • @jctheii
      @jctheii ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@trowabarton222 I think contextually this album is amplified by how powerful of a project it actually is. A lot of the lyrics are callbacks to previous albums including their first two EP’s (and more). They also have hints of previous songs musically as well that are pretty cool. So while sonically Take Me Back to Eden as a whole sounds brilliant alone, context really takes it to a WHOLE nother level. Not to be dramatic but as a OG fan when Euclid reached the very ending, the callback to their debut album’s first song (The Night Does Not Belong To God), it felt like a fuckin’ religious experience 😂 I’m a huge music fan and have never been as moved as i was when that part played out. These guys are un-fucking-real
      edit: To expound more on that, it’d be like watching Avengers Endgame. You’ve got the epic climax and a tie up of a bunch of previous stories. While you can definitely have a good time with that movie without having seen the rest, having knowledge of previous movies would make moments more impactful and understanding the inside baseball of what certain dialogue signify. (I’m not a huge Marvel fan, just giving an analogy 😂)

    This song is almost like having a drug or spiritual awakening to me.
    I've never experienced so much power and emotional/spiritual authenticity in a single song before in my whole entire life.
    I genuinely do believe this band is the most unique and talented band in the history of all music to have ever been written so far and i don't say that lightly.
    These unbelievably creative and (what I believe to be divinely inspired) ranger and blend of genres, notes, tones, techniques, styles, ect. surpass anything i ever even thought would have been possible...
    I can't even find the words except that they come out of an entirely different state of consciousness that speaks to the uniqueness and eccentricity of each individual through their own life experience.
    They have even surpassed tool for me by exponential margins who were the only band who could even have come close or compared and thas not something I ever thought I'd be able to say or imagine would be possible.

      @@Rykerroad that’s totally fair. I first heard them when they released their second album and I was new to the metal genre and didn’t really understand them. They didn’t hit right for me either. But after I heard The Summoning it clicked and I was like ohhhhh okay I’m here for this. And now they’re probably my favorite band. 😂 how music hits you differently at different times is wild.

    Sleep Token has me in a chokehold (pun intended) with their lyricism, and especially with the way they arrange their music. I had listened to Take Me Back to Eden a thousand times before I noticed Vessel takes a gasp of breath after “but no one told me not to breathe”

  • @natashasteds
    @natashasteds ปีที่แล้ว +13

    This song is so beautiful! It is an emotional rollercoaster for sure. It starts out so chill, then makes me sad, and the end when he screams "take me back to Eden!" I feel so angry. It is amazing how much they can make you feel in one song. The callbacks to Chokehold in it is awesome too!

    This band has SO MANY subtle references throughout their music. One example is "i don't know what's got it's teeth in me...". That lyrical idea is in several songs on all their albums like "when the mouth of infinity buries it's teeth in me" from High Water. Another one is "...i will still avoid my own questions" and "... pull myself beneath the waves" in High Water come back in DYWTYLM with the whole theme and "or do you duck into deep blue Safety"

    Seeing Kyle really be touched by the emotion in this piece really resonated with me. Please review Euclid. This whole album is probably one of my favorites of all time, not just because of the cool genre bending gimmicks but because of the raw and earnest emotional moments in the record.

    I really appreciate y'alls reaction. The whole time I was giggling just waiting for the last 30secs and how it punches you in the face. The lyrics for this band are really important to understanding the whole story/concept. They do a lot of callbacks to other songs on this album and older material. So far I've found two/three intertwining stories. The comparison to TOOL I think is very spot on and reflects people's reactions to this band, like you either love them or you hate them. I for one am obsessed. Worship.

    This is the impact of Sleep Token. It may now be every song when it happens, but there’s at least one in the catalog that’ll hit even the hardest among us. Lyrically, there’s none better and I’ll stand by that. Vessel is a master of metaphor. Here’s an example from another song: “Seems your heart is locked up and I still get the combination wrong.” Perfection. Guys, “Ascensionism” is the track for you. For me, that and “Take Me Back to Eden” are on the same level. A total experience. Worship.

    This is the perfect song from them imo. They take all of the styles they do throughout the album and put them into one song with each separated by the chorus that is super strong and gets more intense every time it comes in. Beautiful 🤌🏼

    I've always said Sleep Token is "post-metal". They experiment with different sounds and textures and ideas while being based in traditional metal elements. They have such a broad sound, I think this is the best way to describe them if you absolutely had to give them a genre

    Vessel is definitely an amazing lyricist. I'm sure on a second-listen you probably caught "When we were made, It was no accident, We were tangled up like branches in a flood," lyrics from Chokehold, were woven into TMBTE at the end ... beautiful!

  • @ireladdy

    I promise you won't regret diving into this band further. I second all the suggestions for Ascensionism. Also, Dark Signs from their first album, Sundowning, also has some of the hip hop sounds to it. Did you pick up on "it was no accident" (callback to Chokehold) during the end when it was building to that final breakdown?

    I'm the exact same as you guys, I originally heard Will's covers of Hypnosis and Chokehold and I wasnt a fan of the originals at all, but then I heard The Summoning which hooked me instantly, I went back and listened to those couple of songs afterwards and now I'm obsessed with their whole discography 😂
    but I highly recommend Ascensionism, I feel like you'd both appreciate that one in particular!

    I fucking love this band and I still sometimes need to hear a song of theirs a second or third time to hit home. It's entirely possible that you will get more in tune with what Sleep Token are doing in songs you've already heard on coming back to them. Incredibly special band. If you want to hear another song of theirs that taps into some of the same feeling, for Kyle especially, I highly recommend checking out High Water. The emotional impact that song has is unbelievable, and it's not received nearly enough attention so far
