Lost my only son to alcoholism 8 years ago, he was 31,and the lines 'I cannot fix your wounds this time' and 'I want to help you but I don't know how' hit me to the core because as his mom that's exactly how I felt. My ex and I got him into psychiatric care, rehab, etc but he just slipped further and further down. I found him in the floor the night he died, did cpr and the emts came and took him but he was gone. I have no words for the kind of pain that is and 8 years later I miss my son so much every single day. The first time I heard this song I cried and cried till I was gasping for breath, it just hit me in that raw core of my soul that I had had to numb just to get through the days and months right after he died.

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my husband 11 years ago to cancer just 6 weeks after his diagnosis. His last days in the ICU. In the end the only way I could help him was to let him go. All these years later. ST and Ren have helped me let go of most of that pain.

@@JewelsLeigh I understand that completely, with my son I was drawn back to all my Tool albums and for whatever reason Tool helped save my sanity and helped me work through a lot of stuff in my grieving process. And there are other songs by various other artists and bands that both my son and I really bonded over, and even now if one comes on the radio or a random play list it can still make me tear up with emotion and an aching twinge of missing Daniel.

This song came on when I was showing my mom the album while we were having our monthly mom/daughter lunch. I looked over at the end, and she had tears just streaming down her face. She grabbed my hand and told me “baby doll, this is exactly how I felt when you were a teenager. I’m sorry I couldn’t find the words to help you more”, and after that day, I always imagine that this song is from Vessels mother’s perspective.

Oh this made me sob.... I lost my mom three years ago. I'll never forget our most emotional connection when my ex broke up with me when I was 18 and I finally went to her after three days sobbing and she just held me and told me she knew something was wrong but she was just waiting for me...I've always been so independent and guarded so she knew I'd go find her when I needed her. I need her so badly rn I wish she were still here.

I also think it’s important to mention that physically harming yourself is just one way of lashing out against yourself in bad situations. There are plenty of ways to inflict harm on yourself without a blade, so even if you don’t see any scars you can never know if a friend is damaging themselves just by looking at them. I think this song is more universal then just a plea to “don’t cut yourself” or “don’t commit su*cide” but a plea to stop every way we punish ourselves

So this came out a few days before my cousin's suicide and it's been difficult to get through this song. He had several attempts and overdoses that required reviving. I watched my family mourn and feel hope over and over again until it finally happened and we lost him. This song reflects that back and forth we had all struggled with, including him. We never truly believed him when he said he was going to be okay. Now, the pain he felt has been pushed upon us... pushed onto his children. I encourage anyone struggling with mental illness to reach out, get help, therapy can be conducted in your own home so you don't have to feel trapped by what little resources may be available in your town. But most importantly, addicts, whatever led you down this road, it wasn't your fault. You are more than any mental/physical health issue or trauma and more than the addiction, and you are worthy of healing and recovering. You are so fucking worthy.

The more I listen to them, the more I get why people respond to them so intensely. The themes are relatable, whether it’s your own experience or knowing someone going through it. If you’re a lyrics junkie, there’s so much to unpack. They touch so many genres that they’ll inevitably hit something you love. THIS song though? I think pretty much everyone can identify with watching someone in pain, knowing it, and not knowing what to do for them.

I found this song not long after my cat died very suddenly from kidney failure. We had no idea. He showed no signs of pain or issues until the night before he died. His death hurt me so bad that I legit almost got broken heart syndrome. A month after I found this song my husband had a serious stroke that he is still recovering from 7 months later (just speech now). I felt so helpless in both circumstances and the lines "I cannot fix your wounds this time" and "I don't believe you when you tell me you are fine" makes me sob every time. I love this song so much but I can't listen to it without crying - and it's not a silent cry. It's ugly crying, clutching my chest, sobbing. Vessel has so much hurt and love in his voice in this song that it tears me apart every time. But, god, I love it.

Ive seen this theory before, but based on the character that represents the song, a woman holding a fetus essentially, I believe this song is about miscarriage. I disagree. I'm fairly sure he's describing an ex-friend or an ex-romatic partner who struggled with self-harm and suicidal ideation and suicide attempts.
Take into context the lyrics "I want to help, but I don't know how" - this is often how caregivers, friends, and others who are close with someone struggling this way feel.
I work as a psychologist with people who struggle this way. In fact, more than half of my clientele are in therapy for this exact reason.

I love coming back to these earliest Sleep Token reactions so i can watch them try to work it out whilst knowing how the reactor feels about them towards the end. The initial enjoyment but confusion is brilliant, then gradually it becomes THIS IS INCREDIBLE!! 😂 I saw them in Manchester recently after 3 and a half years of listening and their music getting me through some dark and terrible times, it was mindblowing, absolutely amazing band!

“I want to help you but I don’t know how” hits me personally very deeply. As someone who has seen what depression and self harm does to a person, you feel completely helpless, all you can do is be there for them.

Had to edit my comment because the more I listened, the more I realised this was a follow on from Atlantic. I think this is someone like his mum or brother talking to HIM! It clicked when I realised I said some of these things to both my daughters after I caught them self harming with pins and razor blades! Sometimes as a parent, you can only do so much, you have to let them find their own way. Just let them know you're there, because sometimes thats all you can do

2:30 This song's sound and vibe, like the jangly country sounding guitars and the singing really remind me of something off the Beck album Sea Change...maybe not even a particular song, just the general sound. Idk but I love it

I know exactly what you mean Eric, when you said it reminds you of something else, when I first heard the beginning of this song I immediately was taken back to my childhood listening to Cat Stevens on my dads cassette player.

I’ve struggle with mental health since I was young. Depression can hit me hard on some days. In 2021 I was diagnosed with PTSD, Depression, and Dissociative Identity Disorder, we found this all out after hitting a breaking point and me along with one of my alter’s tried to self harm. My best friend found and stopped us before we could serious damage to ourselves. It’s been a very hard and long journey of healing. Today me and that alter listened to this song and we cried so hard.

This song makes me cry. Everytime because I’ve struggled with thoughts of hurting myself and almost taking my life. When I almost succeeded, I ended up hearing Falling in Reverse’s Carry On and The Drug in Me is You. I instantly broke down in tears and now hearing this song, it brought back memories of that time and looking at where I am now I still break down and cry. And it’s also cause of Vessel’s voice.

I don't know if you guys know this or not? Aside from the masterful drumming from ii; all of this is written, composed, recorded, and sang by one person; Vessel. In live shows, they have the additional band, but not in recording.
There's so many similarities between Sleep Token and Twenty One Pilots. Lore, hidden messages, genre breaking, etc. I can't wait till ya'll dive deeper. Initially I had the same thing, the voice gets me... but now Vessel's voice *gets me*.

saw sleep token a few days at the metal festival "copenhell" (Denmark) and they were great live, but kind of a different concert as he didn't speak a word on stage in between songs or after as he calls his Concerts "rituals" for the diety they believe in called "sleep" also known as Hypnos, Latin Somnus, Greco-Roman god of sleep.
