"My, my, those eyes like fire I'm a winged insect, you're a funeral pyre" has to be the greatest description of going back to a toxic relationship that will eventually kill you . Like Moth to a flame for the attraction and Funeral Pyre to describe his end if he goes back.
The beginning " drifting through the fog" = the album Sundowning, perfect oceans The album" This place will become your tomb" ocean theme. The whole beginning is a call back and how he's still attracted and called to the other in the song. There are call backs through this album and song. So many. Go listen to chokehold now
I think the ocean theme is another metaphor for this ever present imagery of being lost in or consumed by another person that their albums have; similar to the goddess motif. Vessel knows that giving themselves over to this entity, this force of nature will end in ruin, but is so awestruck by them that they are willing to anyway. I wonder if Eden refers to the time before the pain they caused or before the pain of not having them.
You're the first reactor our of god knows how many to talk about how the chorus is evolving as the song goes on, which is one of my favorite things about the song.
The way I interpreted this song is this someone who wants things to go back to the way things were. Something is different, things have changed for him and he wants to go back to a simpler time, or perhaps his eden represents a state of mind or a relationship with someone who represents "The Godmother". This whole song is an escelation of force. At first hes grasping at the concept that things arnt the same and it seems ethereal, not real. Then as the R&B part fills in its more grounded as a person whos going through the walls of life and trying to cope, but hes angry because he cant. The softer part after the second chorus is him seemingly bargaining almost. Trying to reason with his feelings, and when he cant it escelates to the breakdown, which is feel is an appropriate portion as a 'breakdown' of his walls and composure. Its feral and hes done reasoning and bargaining. Hes willing to do ANYTHING to go back to the way things were.
Yes I been through this I agree completely the love of life, my daughters mother is a drug addict the more I tried to love her the crazier she got. In the end it just gets worse exactly how I took this song
@@Snarmeggedon exactly, which if you know the lore behind the band; then you know what the storyline is. They’re like ghost where there’s a lore behind each song. Between Vessel's vocals and writing and II's drumming, there is a plethora of genres and musical influences. II's style is very much infleunced by metal but he incorporates gospel, RnB, and pop to his drumming. I don't care about what other people say, this is my album of the year.
Vessel's voice is really haunting all on its own with no production. He's one of the most talented musicians/singer/song writer I've ever heard. "Feels like water rushing to the shore", you described what I couldn't put my finger on perfectly! Great review, also loved your reaction when he hit the line "Room feels like a meat freezer, I dangle in it like cold cuts"
I love how I can just see in your face how you're taking it in for what it is. You're analyzing it. And that's exactly how this band should be listened to
The lines “it was no accident” and “we were tangled up like branches in a flood” are direct callbacks to the first track on this album, “Chokehold” and lyrical callbacks are very common from their first album until the very last song on this recent one. If you do a full dive, you absolutely need to listen to “The night does not belong to god” off their first album BEFORE you listen to ”Euclid” in this album in order to be able to fully appreciate it in it’s entirety
I love that you take your time to appreciate the lyrics. You really listen. Great reaction, I hope there will be more. My personal favorites from the same album are The Apparition and Rain. But whatever song of theirs you do next, you're in for a treat. You can't go wrong with Sleep Token.
To me this song is parallel with the story in Genesis. No one told him how to breathe. In the fog. He didn’t have knowledge of his surroundings. Then they bite the fruit and is kicked out of his paradise. All he knew. Then the rapping part is he is now realizing everything at once. The screaming at the end is him pleading to a metaphoric god to take him back to that paradise or woman or loved one that passed on.
The fruit of desire, the seeds of despair, the suffering leading to an enlightenment. The enduring love transcending it all. This song is magic, invoking the deepest confines of the soul. A true genuine masterpiece.
The song Gods has lyrics "No more teeth to bite with" Here, there's "Grow back your sharpest teeth, you know my desire" After the anger and sorrow pass, he still wants her. Even tho she hurt him.

Especially the line "no amount of self sought fury will bring back the glory of innocence" and the third verse overall makes me think so, like no matter how mad he gets at the other person, that will never bring back the peace and the happiness he had with them before. To me, the whole song sounds like the process of trying to get over the loss of someone, the first verse being the sadness of realizing everything's approaching the end; the second part describing the frustration and chaos of trying to live and forcing oneself to do things they don't like in order to keep going. Then finally, the third part is about trying to find peace and acceptance with it all, only to, in the end, devolve into complete chaos and angst with the realization you still wish you could go back somehow. That all goes into Euclid, which shows him finding peace with the memories he still holds dear (the autumn leaves, the ancient canopies), but realizing he must move on with life by becoming someone new, and finally accepting that, for the last time, what or whoever it was that he was longing for after all this time will not be his.

Sleep token has made me hit my feelings deep since I first heard them And on top of that, the bars Vessel spits are flawless. it's right up there with Joyner Lucas, J cole etc. Im loving the metal/hip hop/gospel/R&B mash up.
Bro, I enjoyed the reaction. I believe lyrically it is about the death of a living soul through drowning. The soul takes a step back to describe its disappointments in life and comes to the point of not wanting death as he is now ready to fight back in anger only to realize death has a hold of him and there is nothing he can do about it. The heavy end is his final violent outcry as he now only wants to go back to the place of pure love ,peace, beauty and life which is the beloved " eden" before " the fall" .
I think of it like this. Throughout their discography, especially on their EPs "One" and "Two", there was this sort of theme with the song order. Three songs on each EP, and the order goes like this: First song is about going TO Sleep, second song is about what Vessel does when he's connected to Sleep, and the third song is Vessel sort of waking up and being away from Sleep. If you put that order into this trilogy, you get: Sundowning --> Falling asleep, starting the relationship with Sleep, going to Sleep This Place Will Become Your Tomb --> The chaotic, tumultuous, tempestuous relationship with Sleep Take Me Back To Eden --> Vessel waking up from Sleep and finally realizing that the whole relationship was just BAD. With this in mind, it's PAINFULLY obvious that "Take me back to Eden" is Vessel's crying out moment to go back to how life was BEFORE Sleep. Before all this hell he's been in. Even the gods of this world are growing tired of it. He's been nothing but a waking, living hell. He's been nothing but evil and dark and dangerous when he's connected to Sleep. So "Take me back to Eden" is his sort of cry out to be taken back to that time.
I`m a simple man, you react to Sleep Token (or brazillian music, cause its fucking good) and i`ll be here with my thumbs up. Great video man, keep going!
Already commented, but (this is my view on it) is "Take me back to Eden" is him saying he wishes he could go back to the honeymoon phase of a relationship. Wanting to go back to when everything was fresh, new and happy. Before it all went to shit
Great reaction and deep dive into the lyrics. You'll enjoy, I feel, reacting to more Sleep Token songs cause they are all like this. Very deep, encryptic, with some even calling back lyrically to songs on other albums. It's amazing how much thought and detail Vessel (their lead singer/songwriter) puts into these songs.
I think he singing about how the relationship hurts him but he still feels happy in an empty way you know? Like he won’t be taken advantage of but he also won’t break away
To help with lyrics most songs are him and another woman he had a relationship with and some times the song is either about the relationship or him talking to himself or the other person talking to themselves.
take me back to eden means take me to the beginning and lets start over knowing a better way. l8isten to the album from start to finish. "WHEN WE WERE MADE, IT WAS NO ACCIDENT"
You should listen to this on the album because the next song Euclid flows right in dude. Almost like he made it to Eden and then wrote Euclid. Unbelievable album.
I really enjoy the way you're looking at deeper meanings of it. Ive seem many on every single song. And they continue to evolve into a higher understanding. I see it as him singin like an angel whose been cast out of Heaven (Eden is when we became man) now having this human experience of choice and duality, it sucks, remembering that we came from and are one with the divine, being stuck here pisses you off... All we really want is to go back to Eden, with the peace love and beauty. The innocence
P.s. even watching this with you I understood the verse "I'm a winged insect you're a funeral pyre" as... Like a moth to the flame I can't resist death (the end) or the anger or the violence
One more thing... It was interesting that you brought up sephiroth. It is a main category in the kaballah and I've noticed Vessels awareness of it in many songs, also the bible, alchemy, chemistry, astrology, mysticism, mathematics, etc.
"My my your eyes like fire I'm a wind insect You're a funeral pyre" He's atracted to the intensity of her gaze like a moth to flame, but it leads to his death. "... along both lines of a pathway higher" The high road is a two-way street. There are some BARS in here
‘I don’t know what’s got its teeth in me but I’m about to bite back in anger’ at the end of the song when it goes hard. That’s vessel biting back in anger.
The ultimate callback song to previous albums. Speaking of which, once you have reacted to the entire TMBTE (or at least most of it (its worth it)) you should go back album by album. There are some BANGERS in previous albums. Higher Supremacy!!! Edit: one thing I dont think gets recognised is the high note vessel hits early in the song. Like damn. Mans got range
"He sounds like he's drowning" Then Vessel sang the lyrics "My my those eyes like fire, I'm a winged insect, you're a funeral pyre." You couldn't have been more right, my good sir.
@tuspu8255 I also feel that When The Bough Breaks should also be listened to before Euclid. It's not as necessary as TNDNBTG, but it is also referenced in Euclid's lyrics. Stay safe 🤘 ✌️
@@brianalmeida1964Euclid references a TON of songs. Not just directly but indirectly, answering previous questions or calls, carrying on the story, etc. its a masterpiece. Also when it says just give me 5 more minutes, the song has 5 mins remaining. Absolutely awesome song
Euclid was my first Sleep Token song I heard and I don't regret it... It fits everything without knowingly hitting every nerve in the pulses of a broken heart.
If you think this sounds good in the mix on the album, you should see them live. Just as good if not better because of how organic it is. One of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.
Sleep Token is incredible, I think my new hobby is watching people react to them 😂 Quick question, have you listened to “While We Sleep” by Insomnium? I’d recommend checking it out if you have a chance.
They have a surprisingly large amount of Gospel music influence (revealed by their drummer in a recent interview), so that non-R&B part that felt R&B might have been a little Gospel flair you picked up on.
My two cents. Throughout Sleep Token’s discography, we hear Vessel describe a tumultuous relationship with Sleep. Sleep is almost a parasitic deity who lured Vessel in and then used him. In my opinion, Take Me Back to Eden is Vessel crying out wishing that he could go back to life before Sleep, now that he knows how toxic their relationship is.
I like the theory but I believe TMBTE refers to when he he’s the veil over his eyes. I don’t think he wants his life back, I think he wants to go back to when he was blissfully unaware of the toxicity. I think he wants to be a pawn
@@DeathStarDaddy Exactly! He wants to be back with Sleep despite all of their toxicity. He loves them regardless. He wants them to "bite through these wires" and to "grow back your sharpest teeth". Vessel knows how dangerous on the physical and mental Sleep is for him but he doesn't care, he'll "travel far beyond the path of reason" for them. It's really sad when you think about it, because essentially, it's like he's saying that abuse is his Eden.
I just wish people that listen to ST could go back to the beginning and fully know the full story!!! Not many know it’s between him and the Diety Sleep!!! They just think it’s love stories and sad songs with him and a girl! With would also be beautiful! Don’t get me wrong!
I don’t like heavy metal, but this is turning me on to it. Any other bands you'd recommend? so far listening to I See Stars, bmth, and October Ends. OE have a new song as well - its called Damaged and its great!
To me all of sleep tokens albums have some connection to TMBTE. Sundowning(the first album) is the beginning of a love, hence songs like sugar. This Place Will Become Your Tomb (second album) I think something goes wrong in that relationship and he has a longing for the love he had, hence songs like Alkaline, where he is praising her. In TMBTE he finally realizes that what they had was not good for him hence the album as a whole. Sleep token IS a journey through what it feels like to lose someone, and I’m here for all of it
Just want to put out there that I see the "I'm a waking hell" line as either a plea for help, because of what has been lost since leaving Eden or a statement of the pain of not being in Eden, not a statement on what Eden is

Such an absolute classic
Great reaction!! I’m proud to say that I discovered Sleep Token before they hit it big!!
"This about to be a 20 minute reaction, bro"
*Looks at length of video*
That checks out.
He sounds exactly like this live….that is actually him ❤❤
Love your reaction man! Keep it coming! Sleep Token is amazing!
If you put that order into this trilogy, you get:
Sundowning --> Falling asleep, starting the relationship with Sleep, going to Sleep
This Place Will Become Your Tomb --> The chaotic, tumultuous, tempestuous relationship with Sleep
Take Me Back To Eden --> Vessel waking up from Sleep and finally realizing that the whole relationship was just BAD.
YES
I`m a simple man, you react to Sleep Token (or brazillian music, cause its fucking good) and i`ll be here with my thumbs up.
Great video man, keep going!
Already commented, but (this is my view on it) is "Take me back to Eden" is him saying he wishes he could go back to the honeymoon phase of a relationship. Wanting to go back to when everything was fresh, new and happy. Before it all went to shit
This song & band has gotten me through some shit. Love sleep token. Love you. Worship 🤝
I like your reactions you've gained yourself a new subscriber 👏👏
You should watch clips of their live shows. Vessel sounds just as amazing on stage as he does in the studio. Worship
One of the best songs ever written.
Dude, Sleep Token writes lyrics that require 3 to 5 business days to process the first time you hear it
Sleep Token has me in a chokehold. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I think he singing about how the relationship hurts him but he still feels happy in an empty way you know? Like he won’t be taken advantage of but he also won’t break away
believe it or not, his voice isnt mixed down, its a vocal technique he uses
I love this one. Vessel is pissed and he wants to go back to Eden!
I love this band so much
Absolute fire 🔥
To help with lyrics most songs are him and another woman he had a relationship with and some times the song is either about the relationship or him talking to himself or the other person talking to themselves.
Yesssss more sleep token
take me back to eden means take me to the beginning and lets start over knowing a better way. l8isten to the album from start to finish. "WHEN WE WERE MADE, IT WAS NO ACCIDENT"
You should listen to this on the album because the next song Euclid flows right in dude. Almost like he made it to Eden and then wrote Euclid. Unbelievable album.
😂 Okay. New favourite reaction channel.
Sleep Token’s lyrics use a lot of double entendres - it is more in line with the Sleep Token “lore” that’s a fun rabbit hole to go down lol
The beginning makes me think of Diablo 1, but your Sephiroth comment was aqesome 😂
"My my your eyes like fire
I'm a wind insect
You're a funeral pyre"
He's atracted to the intensity of her gaze like a moth to flame, but it leads to his death.
"... along both lines of a pathway higher"
The high road is a two-way street.
There are some BARS in here
‘I don’t know what’s got its teeth in me but I’m about to bite back in anger’ at the end of the song when it goes hard. That’s vessel biting back in anger.
Vessels lyrics are straight poetry 🔥
You are the real deal bro
The ultimate callback song to previous albums. Speaking of which, once you have reacted to the entire TMBTE (or at least most of it (its worth it)) you should go back album by album. There are some BANGERS in previous albums. Higher Supremacy!!! Edit: one thing I dont think gets recognised is the high note vessel hits early in the song. Like damn. Mans got range
His voice is not mixed, that is him
Just pure genious
You should react to a live performance of this song
That bit at the end "It was no accident" is from another song "Chokehold"
"He sounds like he's drowning" Then Vessel sang the lyrics "My my those eyes like fire, I'm a winged insect, you're a funeral pyre." You couldn't have been more right, my good sir.
I believe he’s talking about our relationship to our home and the reckoning that is overdue.
Check out. The apparition, Aqua Regia and granite by sleep token!
Great reaction!!
Euclid is the next song in the Album.
To understand Euclid fully you'd have to listen 'The Night Does Not Belong To God' first.
Best option would be to listen to them Back to Back.
That ending bit back in anger
If you think this sounds good in the mix on the album, you should see them live. Just as good if not better because of how organic it is. One of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.
Sleep Token is incredible, I think my new hobby is watching people react to them 😂
Quick question, have you listened to “While We Sleep” by Insomnium? I’d recommend checking it out if you have a chance.
the lighting making my boy looking orange
“Sephiroth..?? Is that you?!” quite literally killed me 😂
They have a surprisingly large amount of Gospel music influence (revealed by their drummer in a recent interview), so that non-R&B part that felt R&B might have been a little Gospel flair you picked up on.
Rain next, please. ❤
Can't wait for Bloodsport from the room below
@@DeathStarDaddy Yes!!! It makes me think of the line from Dark Signs "And I miss the man I was the moment we left off"
@@DeathStarDaddy Exactly!
I recommend Chokehold and Granite!! And new October Ends!
2:20
To me, it sounds very similar to Breaking Benjamin, but more modern. Especially for The Summoning, it’s got more metal undertones to it.
Tool comparison is fair, both are progressive metal bands at their core.
I don’t like heavy metal, but this is turning me on to it. Any other bands you'd recommend? so far listening to I See Stars, bmth, and October Ends. OE have a new song as well - its called Damaged and its great!
I'm not very Metal Fluent as of yet so I can't recommend anything
You should listen to his isolated vocals.
This song is literally like the final boss fight.
