A WRC car is designed to be taken apart very quickly , all bolts are easy to access and there are tapered dowel pins that self align everything when reassembled. All brake and hydraulic lines are quick connect , electrical connections are all military style plugs. All axles are removable without dissembling the suspension (they come out the middle of the hub) This why one of these babies cost upwards of 450K $$
He's bolting the top part of the knuckle together at the end of the video... suspension had to be disassembled like every other car that has CV axles....
Cold brakes, cold engine, cold exhaust, cold G-box, no mud, no rust, no seized threads, not impact distortions, all the factory spc tools, all the factory trained mechanics....yep, every weekend we practice this in suburbia
I want to see a rally team replicate this today using GoPros to show what the guys under the car see - and maybe a glass floor under them to see as well.
Took me 4 and a half hours to do a clutch on a WRX and I honestly thought I did well considering it was on ramps and stands. These blokes have the box out in 2min.
Reminds me when I attended Rally Australia at Perth in the mid 1990's, with the service centre set up in the local football oval or showground. I also attended pre-rally scrutineering - as well as the cars, all of the spares have to pass technical inspection. I remember mechanics pulling multiple suspension units, turbo units and god knows what else out of the Subaru 555 service van to get the OK!
keep in mind. all the parts on this car are a week old at best. its easy to replace stuff with there is NO rust on anything, no nuts are seized on, an no worry about bolts shearing cuz there all new.
Yeah lot of mechanics Subaru don't want you to see this!! You have to pull the engine to get to transmission 🤨 I Appreciate Brian mobile TH-cam channel# For showing us different👍👏👏
That was quick but its not like working on a conventional road going scooby, everything is quick release such as gear linkages and engine mounts and it only has the bare essentials required for driving, they didnt even have to strip down the hubs :S as it is 4wd so surely would have front driveshafts and also a rear prop... id love to see the setup
It would actually make them go up as the per hour rate would be significantly higher. Fast & cheap mechanics are the ones that make the most mistakes. It takes a lot to be fast & good. Those mechanics only work on racing teams nowadays since most people don't care to pay for quality anymore. They only want fast & cheap.
@moossee32 1. you don't drive a Subaru set up for WRC. 2. you're not paying for WRC pit crew service. 3. They have other projects going on.... the list goes on and on my friend.
These cars are built to be taken apart very quickly. Thats why these cars are so expensive. Your car is not comparable with a rally car. But two weeks is quite long yeah.
Well aren't we smart.. The answer however is not entirely as you state. The old and new box are presumably sealed (semi)dry-sump units, which means they have their oil in a sealed housing pumped around by external unit as it needs to be cooled. Now obviously Subaru WRT isn't exactly going to tell us how it works but it is safe to assume all they do is disconnect the power supply to the pump (i.e. harness) and release the whole thing from the chassis, axles and clutch. Ps. It's they, not 'thay'.
LOL if im lazy then hell has frozen over. i've done soo much work to my sti and 350z. i cant afford any other mods on my cars because the mods i want now are expensive as fuck

It’s a work of art.
Actually the car is close to 650K$ but still a close one :)
Thanks for the information 👍👌

I Am Sekou mm
5 minutes for them, 2 days for me.
Well I’m imprezed
yes that's about right.
That awkward moment when the car drives back out of the garage and theres a bolt sitting on the floor.....
Well shite
I’d just kick to the side there’s always to many bolts in things 🤣

Yeah, that's pretty much what it looks like when I swap mine out. I'm referring to the spasms at 1:35
Best comment i've ever seen on TH-cam, hands down.
This is how fast work could get done if you could just find that damn 10 mill

This was a demonstration. During actual repair stages these cars are usually pretty damn dirty
Click→ 1:37 notice the grand mal seizure technique being employed here to remove the exhaust. Exhausting!

Impressive!... no swearing! :)
Shane DeezNutz they occasionally swear. But for the most part it’s family friendly.

Justin Maddox now... there’s an idea
There’s a ton of videos of it now Red Bull has one with everyone wearing go pros

Those jack stand points for the triangle stands are really cool

Holy shit! No transmission jack. 3men catching and lifting it. Awesomeness!
I'll bet 1,999,999 dollars that at least one of those mechanics has a WRX
But.... mechanics charge per hour.... therefore it would probably be cheaper, since they do it in 5 minutes
William Ruiz these mechanics still make a ridiculous amount of money
@@tylerkey7283 they dont make that much. F1 is a different story.
And that one of them is named Kyle
That car looks fantastic even without the wheels and gearbox in it :)
Subaru for life :)

i want those triangle car stand things for meh ride
on the second thought they kinda looking bit unsave 😂
There are pipes welded into the chassis were you slide those triangles in. They are very safe working stands for fast jobs like this.
What a team they make 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🫠
Its like watching a time lapse :D
Your comment completely jinxed it :o
I love this car❤
i'm starting to work in mechanic, and in a very old mechanical workshop, we make exactly this, but in like, half day
These things are made to be disassembled fast, production cars are made to be touched inside "brand certified" mechanic workshops
That is called (team work)
Holy crap. I have a 04 STI and that transmission looks nothing like the one in my car. I want that!
After a few miles of driving a straight cut gearbox it will do your head in.
well impressed with this
Holly shit thats fast and how light is that gearbox cause thay picked it up and put it back in like nothing
INSANE !!!!!! WRC mechanics . Bets in the world. SUBARU FTW !
-So, what do you do at work?
-Oh, skull crushers using a WRC gearbox.
-.......nice
@madz510 Which guy in the blue? Theres about 5 to choose from
Because that's what you do when you change a gearbox on nearly any car or motor vehicle. The inside of a gearbox contains either gearbox oil or ATF.
Wish they'd come to do my Scooby
Incroyable ils ont change la boite a vitesse en 5 mn chrono!
where can i get them jack stands
They'd charge 6 hours labour for this I bet.
+Lawrence Sullivan No, but for the amount of people involved you'd think you got charged for 6 hours!
Screw the stands! I want a team like that to fix up my car!
Don't they need to drop the oil and refill again?
I want that much suspension travel in my 06 sti... Good Lord!!!
Gearbox the movie.... out on the streets
Bellissimo
What are the qualifications for being one of these technicians does anyone know
DAMN awesome!
It would actually make them go up as the per hour rate would be significantly higher.

@Vova993 Apparently not.
@Vova993 its a dry samp
That almost a days work for me to do XD
What can I say, I'm *imprezed*
How much quicker if it was front wheel drive?
Probably a few seconds faster. But who knows with a transversley mounted trans

I was so scared for the mechanic at 0.21. Was dude going to smash him with that door?!?!?!
...4 lugs?
Seeing this 14 years late, still impressive….maybe in another 14 years we’ll see the mechanics change a battery in 5 seconds 😐
auto repair options, pick 2 of 3: good, cheap, and fast. u'll never have the 3rd in a average repair shop
OHA OMG DİYORUM HELAL SUBİCİLERE
No clear safety glasses? Obviously never got transmission fluid in the eye before. Nice uniforms
Took me 3 days.
Imagine working on a hot car like that with a boxer engine. My arms are already covered in 3rd degree burns.
And it still takes me 6 min to make eggs and toast
0:37 just close your eyes and imagine how it was when you ate spicy indian food the last time.
1:40 angry guy! :)
Paul Howard is that you/? Hi my brother
That is service. Why does that take 1.5 days at my local garage
Er, that's Paul Howarth, not Paul Lapworth...you might be confusing him with David Lapworth.
Man I want those stands to lift my car.
Someday, Subaru Impreza will gonna hatcback forever.
I am guessing this was just a demonstration?
Why does my mechanic take two weeks 😂😂😂😂

im the guy in the blue
that explains why they have so many transmission problems
Not wearing goggles while working under the car? Why?
Should have used a Volkswagen Beetle.
@lavid2006 bring them a WRC subaru. lol

@alexbaby same here..they are mean..
