These cars do not run dump valves because they reduce performance. The sound you are hearing is the turbo stalling/ stopping. This is caused when the drive lets off the throttle and you have pressurised air attempting to go into the turbo but cant because you came off the throttle, so the air hits the turbine in the turbo and stalls it briefly. Disadvantage is that it reduces turbo life dramatically, Advantage is no turbo lag when back on the throttle as the pressurised air is already there.
They are both 2002 (S8) World Rally Cars, the first car in the video has the 2003 (S9) front end though. A number of the S8 Impreza World Rally Cars were upgraded to S9 specification.
@Xphearous Why don't they use compressor housing with anti-surge ports ? Stalling the turbocharger wheel must not be really that good for response, isn't it ?

The wrc is held on public roads which are closed off when the stages are being used during the rallies, for testing they hire out sections of roads from councils to use, the guy filming this would have being at both ends of the section closed off, why?, because its a Subaru wrc with anti-lag which is one of the best noises ever, i can ensure this is definitely testing, the co driver have two seperate pacenotes for one way and one for the other way.
Last Subaru to win the WRC was Solberg in an S9 (2003) blob eye Impreza. Richard Burns won in 2001 in a S7 (2001) Bug-eye Impreza. The 2002 championship was won by Gronholm in a Peugeot, Solberg in a S8 (2002) Impreza just came second, the 2002 season wasn't a great one for Subaru!
Its not a bov. Rally cars don't use em cuz they have anti lag. A bov releases boost in the intake when the throttle shuts. So if they had that with anti lag all the boost they had would be vented out which would negate having anti lag. The chatter is the wategate opening and closing faster than it should.
It kinda bothers me to see many Sti vs Evo reviews and the Sti always gets shafted for not being a better handling car. than I see vids like this and see that subarus can handle any road surface at anytime. I like Evo's but I think Sti's get less credit than they deserve.

It's because WRC went to 1.6L engines and Subaru didn't have a 1.6 and it would cost too much to develop one.

how worth was this car? usually you can sti for ~ 30 000 eur, but I heard that wrc version in WRC (Peter Solberg car) could cost ~ 600 000 eur.
