- SUBARU IMPREZA WRC. The iconic Subaru WRC rally car has many fans. It's the car which made World Rally Championship winning drivers out of Colin McRae in 1995, Richard Burns in 2001 and Petter Solberg in 2003. Subaru became the winner of the FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers in 1995, 1996 and 1997 using this Subaru Impreza rally car.

The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.
Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.
Over 30 countries have hosted WRC rallies. Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland, Rally Portugal, Tour de Corse on Corsica, France, Rally Sardegna on Sardinia, Italy, Safari Rally in Kenya, Acropolis Rally in Greece, Rally New Zealand, Rally Australia, Rally Japan, Rally GB, Rally Catalunya, Rallye Deutschland, Rally Mexico and many more.
Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.
Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.
Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018. No way for subaru to do it, as it would mean changing their iconic engine. Mitsubishi isn't that hard to imagine though. EDIT: I can't type.
they need to create a 1.6 boxer engine due to new wrc reg
zuhardi Yeah. I think they should, as downsizing is where the industry is going. They do have a 3 liter version of that engine already, so maybe there is a small chance. But then there is a chasis problem. They don't have a small hatch. The BRZ is the smallest chasis they sell so it could end up weighing more then other cars and not be as nimble. Too much hustle for Subaru IMHO. Mitsubishi on the other hand has a Mirage R5 rally car developed, so they would require only minor tweaks.
zuhardi 1.6L flat? the engine is already pretty wide by default.... dont think they will be letting go of their flats anytime soon

When I was a child in the 90's, the blue and gold starred Subaru was the only rally car I knew of, even though I ended up being more of a Mitsubishi fan. However, I'm planning on getting a Subaru soon since Mitsubishi is basically falling off the map. You can't help but to respect the company for sticking with the boxer engine. Too bad the FIA has changed the rules of rallying so much that they don't compete anymore in the top class.
This was from 2008 so those who where 21 are much older now

They did do a WRC race last year in Group N in Wales. They dominated the class completely and made Top 20 overall, right up there with the big guys with very little modifications on the STI.

For someone who grew up in the very late 90s/ early 2000s watching WRC, the Impreza was one of my all time favourite cars! I remember being so consumed by it, I even tried to draw it many times. I want one so badly.

Impreza is THE RALLY CAR of the mid/lat '90 early XXI cet. Impreza is the reason why I drive a Forester (which is a higher suspended Impreza :D). For me Impreza replaced a legend of late '80 early '90 - Lancia Delta, but I also love the Toyota Celica ST185 form mid '90. Despite Subaru is no longer in WRC fans still love the Impreza most of all (more than the Mitsubishi EVO).
