Local Forecast- Thundersnow

- Much to my surprise, the rare thundersnow icon appeared for Alpena on the regional map in the first clip, and for Owosso on the 8 city in the second clip. This storm had everything to it, with the only thing missing from this state being tornadoes. Lansing's airport, Capital Region Int'l Airport, put in this observation at 1:00 EDT this morning:
Temp: 34
Wind: E 16, Gusts to 26
Weather: Thunderstorm, Heavy Rain, Small Hail, Snow Pellets, Fog/Mist
Unfortunately at that time, my Intellistar only reported Light Rain.

Man I have never in my life heard thunder during a snowstorm. That's so cool to even just see the icon of thundersnow near your area.

I've heard it before, but it is quite rare.
I've had some thundersnow events before. I had thundersnow on Jan 26th, 2011 when 18 inches of snow fell. The snowfall rate was 4 inches an hour when we got thundersnow.

I remember this. The bow echo on this system was absolutely amazing. I had tornado warnings from this in Dayton Ohio.

Must of been a crazy night with thundersnow, tornadoes, and 85+ MPH winds.

I remember March 23, 2011 I reported a heavy thunderstorm at 33°. Then that same day I had a rare reporting of "Thunder, Wintry Mix" at 32°.

that is one cold thunderstorm. Could have been thundersnow at 34 degrees. The coldest thunderstorm with rain that ive seen was when it was 37 degrees and that was still shocking to me!

On March 23, 2011, TWC reported a Heavy Thunderstorm with a temperature of 33 degrees for me. Not long after, TWC reported Thunder, Wintry Mix at 32 degrees.

I live in Green Bay. We did get thundersnow, and a max wind gust of 60mph.
Thundersnow is extremely rare for me.
what's strange about this is that it's raining @34 degrees!
Alex Lautzenheiser you'd think it would be snowing or sleet at 34 degrees, but it's still above freezing, so rain is possible

I'm a storm spotter and I've never seen a severe thunderstorm warning with a dew point of 32°f now I've seen it storm with a dew point of 35°f but it was not severe this just blows my mind how do you have a severe thunderstorm with it that flipping cold I didn't know that was possible let alone actually happen😱🌪️

Actually, Thundersleet is even more rare then thundersnow.
I had thundersleet on March 23, 2011 with a temperature of 32-33°. That was the last time I had thundersleet.

Why did the national weather service man issued a severe thunderstorm warning?
Not sure if you'll ever read this but it's because it met the criteria. This includes strong wind in excess of 58 mph and hail about an inch large as well as heavy rain. It's strange when it's that cold but conditions in the upper atmosphere were probably just perfect.
