Yep. I remember the days when ads would be playing and all of a sudden, you get a loud beeping on your TV with a storm warning issued. And then jazz music kept playing like it was trying to make it seem like it wasn't a big deal.
Something about the t-storm/tornado warnings back in those days. My mom always let me have the weather channel on to fall asleep to on my TV as a kid. Now at age 30, my main passion is photographing thunderstorms & tornados. I thank her for that. I miss her so much. The jazz music always brings me back to those late nites I'd get so excited watching T-storms roll into the area on the radar. The 8Os, 9Os & early 2OOOs Weather Channel is magic .
Im from the UK and remember those local on the 8s when i used to visit the states between 1998 and 2008. Also loved the music on them. Big weather fan and love watching old ones
@StLouisStormSpotter Those are high-priority warnings which will be displayed on the crawl at the bottom of the screen for the duration of the warning event.
The most severe tornadoes form ahead of a squall line of thunderstorms and are usually isolated or separated from other storms. This separation allows them to feed on warm, moist air that surrounds them. The movement of these storms are usually towards the northeast!
omg i was in lancaster that day. Weather Channel in my hotel room was showing tornado warnings across most of the harrisburg area. And every Harrisburg/Lancaster area station had a EAS warning. crazy day
The same thing happend in McAllen TX when there was a thunderstorm warning. Then there was a flood warning. Then there was a tornado warning in just 8 minutes! We had about 6-7 hours of raining and hail. And had about 6 tornadoes. But no one got killed
That's why I don't want to live in the midwest. You are just relaxing on your couch watching TV at night, then suddenly you hear sirens outside. That would give me a sudden chill.
I remember this storm all too well. I live in York, Dallastown to be exact and the day that we had these storms, I was down with my grandmother and she was in her room changing clothes or something and my brother wasn't home at the time...when they announced this, I quickly ran back and told my grandmother and I kept WGAL on just waiting for the okay that the storm was over. I was never so scared in my life because I hate tornado warnings, I get so worked up over them and I think they are here
@maltesephillies15 They don't show tornado warnings, or severe thunder storm warnings for the weather bulletin. I don't know why, but it's always been like that.
Yeah, that front rolled through here in northern Delaware about 2:00 pm. I watched the KDOX radar light up like a Christmas tree about 12:30 - it was quite impressive. But we didn't get the worst part of it - those cells up by Reading and the one on the York/Adams County line which was roating were something else. It seems like York and Adams always get the good storms...
I actually remember this, wasn't this the day that we had like 3 storms pass by and they had torrential downpour and all that? Because I live near Red Lion (Dallastown) and I remember this.
I miss thunderstorms even though I'm scared of them. I live in New York so right now its winter. I'd rather have thunderstorms than snowstorms. Who else would rather have thunderstorms than snowstorms?
I love that beeping noise. I got At&t U-Verse and they gave us the national Weather Channel so we don't get local forecasts. Thus, we won't get that beeping noise.
@miles24fig Yeah i hate that ish. I was watching storm riders a couple days ago and a very short thunderstorm warning cancelation message for a different county kept rolling across the screen and it beeped when it restarted every 10 seconds for 20 minutes. It was pissing me off really bad and It wasnt even for our county.
The Weather Channel kills me with the music during the "8's" when a warning is going on. Yeah listening to Dave Koz while a tornado is down the street doesn't comfort me any-lol!
Haha Billy....I just caught this video tonight. I don't know how you get so many views on yours (and my IS/Junior Tornado Warnings caps get none :( ) so congrats. I do have to admit York always seems to get tornado warnings every summer. Here in Centre Co. we only get them once every 3-4 years.
As I look in some of the comments saying we miss this version/We want it back I agree cause the 2012 version has very good icons weather alert beeps local forecast alerts that shows during the local on the 8s and the week ahead and very good music the 2013 version has IOS icons and different weather alert beeps like if you think TWC should bring the 2012 version back
I was driving that day to Columbus, Ohio. It was part of a trip around the country that I did. I live kind of near Hanover i live in Harford County, Maryland.
I love TWC, but once the warning bar goes across the screen, I always find it's more helpful to switch to a local station to watch the little maps in the corner and the frequent news updates on the storm. TWC programming continues as usual, and it seems so ironic to hear perky Local on the 8s and updates on distant hurricane season when there's a real weather emergency going on right outside!
Yep. I remember the days when ads would be playing and all of a sudden, you get a loud beeping on your TV with a storm warning issued. And then jazz music kept playing like it was trying to make it seem like it wasn't a big deal.
R.I.P Old Local On The 8s. You will be missed. :(

Miss it so much. Especially from the 90’s and early 2000’s. This is so memorable, easing, peaceful, and tranquil to my mind♥️

Everybody gangsta until The Local on The 8s says "A few storms may be severe"
Miss this so much. Used to watch the Weather Channel all the time and panicked a little during that alert sound.
I could've used this back in 2011 when I was a weather geek.
If people want to know the song's name its "big dreamer" kathy s ball ur welcome😊
Thanks
Thank you
Carl Parker looks a lot younger than he does now .
"A few storms may be severe"
"TORNADO WARNING"
1:04 those storms really popped up quickly!
Nice calming smooth jazz during the forecast as the tornado goes nuts outside!
JacuzziBooty Lol 😂
Playing Roblox with this on the TV back in 2008 is a memory I wish I could relive
😭
Im from the UK and remember those local on the 8s when i used to visit the states between 1998 and 2008. Also loved the music on them. Big weather fan and love watching old ones
Man I miss these graphics. Brings back memories as I used to watch the Weather Channel all the time back when I was in the second grade
0:41 Currently in our area 76 degrees with a Thunderstorm.
I still remember this old version the music is relaxing
We need these Local on the 8s back!
the nostalgia, and the old local on the 8s. god the late 2000s were amazing.
The weather channel is the best well..I just really like weather. ...
Memories. Living in north Texas, we had our fair share of these.
The old thunder storm background on local 8s scared me
I love the music!
Fredo Espinoza same
It's kinda relaxing and sad
I Miss The Version Of Local Of The 8s. 😭
I can't believe 2008 was 7 years ago

About to be 14 in 3 months.
For some reason the local on the 8s scared the crap out of me when I was small
3:57 BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
Not gonna lie, I started crying half way through. This brings back memories 🥺
I miss the old weather channel. 😢😢
I miss this IntelliStar so much, i wish they'd bring it back
THIS IS THE BEST MUSIC EVER!
3:56 *PTSD flashbacks and curls up in a ball*
on long island, i never got a tornado warning, but numerous severe thunderstorm warnings and one tornado watch.
@StLouisStormSpotter Those are high-priority warnings which will be displayed on the crawl at the bottom of the screen for the duration of the warning event.
Those thunderstorm icons were scary for me as a kid
3:57 THE BEEPING SOUND SCARED ME
The most severe tornadoes form ahead of a squall line of thunderstorms and are usually isolated or separated from other storms. This separation allows them to feed on warm, moist air that surrounds them. The movement of these storms are usually towards the northeast!
My dad can match the beep noise and tune perfectly. Whenever it thunders, he does it and we all laugh.
so they are saying there are thunder storms only but then it says at the bottom there is a tornado warning?
omg i was in lancaster that day. Weather Channel in my hotel room was showing tornado warnings across most of the harrisburg area. And every Harrisburg/Lancaster area station had a EAS warning. crazy day
2008 is so good plz bring it back 😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
No it wasn’t, while the nostalgia is high it was a terrible year with all the shit America went through with the housing crisis and recession
WhiteBoy WearingJ's I don't care screw you anyways
The same thing happend in McAllen TX when there was a thunderstorm warning. Then there was a flood warning. Then there was a tornado warning in just 8 minutes! We had about 6-7 hours of raining and hail. And had about 6 tornadoes. But no one got killed
Missed the old days
Man this reminds me of my childhood and early days of severe weather videography...miss those old Local on the 8s.
I watch the weather channel for the good music.
That's why I don't want to live in the midwest. You are just relaxing on your couch watching TV at night, then suddenly you hear sirens outside. That would give me a sudden chill.

I miss this....waaah! 😫😫😢🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
WiiLove Weather Entertainment I know 😭😭🥺🥺 I love this version unlike the new garbage of weather channel
A tornado warning has been issued for our area
The song ID was already posted a couple comments above.
Was this from when Manhattan was under a tornado watch?
When it says a thundertsorm it says " a few storms may be severe " and I'm like " well, that's a NO DIP! Moment " such nice music!
Yeah, that front rolled through here in northern Delaware about 2:00 pm. I watched the KDOX radar light up like a Christmas tree about 12:30 - it was quite impressive. Does anyone know the song played?
big dreamer - kathy ball
I live in erie county and we had two tornado warnings over the course of 2 day
I wonder if anything older has been archived 🤔
I actually remember this, wasn't this the day that we had like 3 storms pass by and they had torrential downpour and all that? Because I live near Red Lion (Dallastown) and I remember this.
I miss thunderstorms even though I'm scared of them. I live in New York so right now its winter. I'd rather have thunderstorms than snowstorms. Who else would rather have thunderstorms than snowstorms?
Same here - thunderstorm #WinterBlows
i heard that during a tornado once about 20 times and i was saying every time "i get it there is a bad storm leave me alone"
I miss this type of Local on the 8's!
I live in Allegheny County, we get really bad storms here as well.
Back when the weather channel actually gave the weather. It's not what it used to be sadly..
I MISS IT SO MUCH 😭
Yeah the new weather channel is absolutely abysmal ;(
Oh man!!! We had a Severe Nice Weather warning earlier today. I was so scared to leave my house to go to work.
I remember every bit of this, and man do I feel nostalgic. This is the most nostalgic tornado I’ve ever come across 😎🙂
I love that beeping noise. I got At&t U-Verse and they gave us the national Weather Channel so we don't get local forecasts. Thus, we won't get that beeping noise.
i love that horn siren at the weather channel
@miles24fig Yeah i hate that ish. It was pissing me off really bad and It wasnt even for our county.
That weather man to the left is now on WLWT in Cincinnati!
wow... the beep has an echo?
The Weather Channel kills me with the music during the "8's" when a warning is going on. Yeah listening to Dave Koz while a tornado is down the street doesn't comfort me any-lol!
ezndatre Lmao 😂
Why does york always get tornadoes?
god im a grown man and still get creeped when a tornado warning comes on. it makes everything errie, even that elevator music.
Beanboy89, you know what Akron's current conditions would be by then?
77 degrees with a heavy thunderstorm.
Damn that radar at 1:03 just shows you how quick these things develop.
Haha Billy....I just caught this video tonight. I don't know how you get so many views on yours (and my IS/Junior Tornado Warnings caps get none :( ) so congrats.
I do have to admit York always seems to get tornado warnings every summer. Here in Centre Co. we only get them once every 3-4 years.

one time in 2007 in a sever thunderstom there was to much beebs it is so anoying
Funny, now the red ticker thing only beeps 4 times. I thought it beeped more than that and it seems I am right.
I was driving that day to Columbus, Ohio. It was part of a trip around the country that I did. I live kind of near Hanover i live in Harford County, Maryland.
Was there ever a tornado where you were?
crazy to think that i was literally born in chambersburg hospital 6 hours after this video was made.
I had no idea Kevin Robinson (WLWT weather) used to be on the Weather Channel
@MillerGrl91 What about tornadoes?
whats your county that you are in
THIS WAS IN HANOVER, PA TOO?
My dad can immitate the BEEP BEEP BEEP perfectly. Whenever it's thundering and I'm sitting on the couch, he comes up and scares me XD
Bring this form of The Weather Chanel back please!😭
Did the Severe Thunderstorm Watch include Newjersey In Bergen county where I live in NewMilford Nj ?
I love TWC, but once the warning bar goes across the screen, I always find it's more helpful to switch to a local station to watch the little maps in the corner and the frequent news updates on the storm.
