I can’t believe you missed it. It’s designed around short people. The tiny rear view window means horrible visibility. Rear side view is also horrible. For a tall person sitting in the back the sideways head movement is appalling. Didn’t you move your head from side to side? Lumber support on the seats is terrible. Then there is the rear view mirror which sits way too low on the windscreen. This is because the roof slopes towards the back and the rear window is too low to the ground. For taller drivers it means you have to lower the seat manually. Sunglasses holder? My 06 Forester does not have any of these design issues. Sure it’s a boxy design but it’s practical.
Absolutely, totally agree, if you compare this to your 16 year old Forester (which is notable for its excellent sight lines), this is going to have much worse rearward visibility. Unfortunately most new vehicles are like this. The Corolla Cross isn’t even the worst that I’ve driven. By today’s standards with cave-like interiors, it actually seemed average!

Glad you talked about how the name has become a brand, cause that's exactly how I ended up with my hatch. For my first car I needed something still basic but enjoyable to me. And the Corolla hatch was the perfect match. Reliable as hell, and visually looks fantastic. Coilovers, sway bars, new wheels and tires, upgraded brakes, I love it! All in the spirit of slow car fast. And now we've got the GR so gg.
Oh also as for the muffler, they all seem to do that on this platform. I took off my rear valence for visuals sake, and it would be sticking out like the cross if it wasn't lowered.
Would be fun to see some real world off-road comparison tests between the first Corolla 4x4 --> the "1987 Toyota Corolla 4x4 all-trac" VS the "2022 Toyota Corolla Cross".
Ethan, Nothing is more boring than excess time and money spent on an unreliable car. Having said that, the Cross's rear seating clearly fails to keep up with prime competition like the HR-V. The biggest disappointment has to be its relatively under-powered, inefficient drive train which delivers less power and lower mpg than the RAV4/RAV4 Hybrid. All in all, the rest of the world's Corolla wagon is more appealing for car fans while CUV fanatics would be better off with the RAV4. On a final note, I would be very surprised if the Cross offers as much headroom as the original Matrix/Vibe and it certainly does not provide their fold-flat front passenger seat which added so much cargo flexibility to those two Corolla variants of yesteryear🤩🤩
It’s funny that a brand new car isn’t correct about the range, amount of gas, and MPGs. My Mazda at first had the MPG estimate was incorrect but then got better overtime. I bet that it will correct itself in time. The Range and tank was always accurate though.

Interesting opinion. The big question in my mind is the following: Is this car called Corolla Cross, because the normal Corolla line will be discontinued at a certain moment of time? So they are keeping the name around this way as it is one of the biggest equity for Toyota?
