      I so randomly kind of found this channel less than a month ago (& I don't even think the most previous thing I'd watched on here was even Thrones related), and oh my god I am so soooo glad. You guys make me laugh like crazy, you two have perfect chemistry (and voices that compliment each other well).
      It was the "What do the White Walkers want?" video that first hooked me, and the timing was so freaky because I'd sincerely within just the last few days prior to that had found myself randomly wondering (especially when dealing with insomnia), well alright try to logically play out the WW's narrative. like if they DO mow down EVERYONE, what then? Will they have some sort of sustained society? And, like in answer to a prayer lol... I found that video :D Which, I gotta hand it to them, because as I'm sure even these guys will rightfully give Alt Shift X plenty of props, I don't recall THEM ever getting into all that before, most of that video was new info to me.

    That dinner scene is a perfect example of the missed potential of that story line. Imagine a story where Sansa used her new found skills and managed to actually manipulate Ramsey. She just saw Ramsey’s weakness when Roose announced the pregnancy and could have used that to her advantage. Rather than regressing the character, the story could have become a triumphant thing for Sansa where she becomes a real ruler by using Ramsey as her enforcer. Instead we just got “make her Jane Pool”

    • @IAmRedherrings
      @IAmRedherrings 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      There are a series of storylines in the show that serve only to facilitate characters ending up where the writers need them in order to maneuver around parts of the book they can't execute... Its a real shame when they can't come up with something for these particular storylines as upon rewatching it kinda just feels like filler... Only good for the actors showreels and HBOs adspace * shrugs *

    • @amiem2104
      @amiem2104 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I thought that that was what they were going with when i first watched this, where they’d have Sansa try and play Roose and Ramsey against each other. It wouldn’t have been too difficult to do that and have her character end up in the same place, but oh well...

    • @johnnyskinwalker4095
      @johnnyskinwalker4095 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yea i think this storyline do not advance Sansa's growth, they only put her there as a shock it seems. It was disappointing at a writing level that that's all they had in mind for her. I think the perfect way this could have gone would have been for Sansa to indeed manipulate Ramsey like Baelish had mentioned. Where she would enflame the relationship between father and son leading to Ramsey killing Roose. At this point, Sansa knows men by how Baelish acted with her. She could even have tried seducing Roose too to pit both against one another.

Once they both know the truth about his heritage. Because alright, officially Jon would be the next in line, but he can simply say "yea, no thanks. No interest at all, just give it to whoever's next". and hey whaddya know, that would be Dany! lol Although, I'm fully aware there's a distinct lack of drama in that direction, even though such a move would be COMPLETELY in line with Jon's character.

      who says it's the worst season? as i percive it most people think season 5 and 6 are decent with some strange or out of place arcs, but season 7 is regarded as the worst and also first bad season

    • @kevinw712
      @kevinw712 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      well yea but, anything that's quantifiable is relative. One given thing will have meaning partially in relation to another given thing that it has overall things in common. A TV series has 8 seasons (what this will when done), just by way of how math works, one therefore has to be the "worst" season. Now that doesn't at all mean that it OBJECTIVELY is bad, that looking at it strictly and entirely on its own merits. But anytime there's more of one of something, one of them inevitably has to be the last/worst.
      It's like I was saying in my above comment noticing some similarities with the West Wing, my favorite show of all time. It is agreed by virtually every fan that season 5 in that show is its worst (sound familiar?). But when stacked up with all the rest of seasons of all television that exists, it's still no worse than a good season of television. That speaks to how great overall TWW was (not unlike Game Of Thrones), even the "worst" is still pretty good.

    • @kevinw712
      @kevinw712 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tommerker8063 hmmm I don't know about that. I mean, when we were all going in real time, season 5 no question was initially regarded as easily the worst of the run so far. I know there was a fair amount of ambivalence that's come along with season 7 (that I personally don't agree with, I'm also not a books guy, I mean there were aspects I didn't like at all, the Sansa/Arya Winterfell tension is one of the dumbest threads they've ever done, but lots I really liked as well), but bottom line, at least in my experience it still feels like season 5 takes the majority vote.

    Valyria is much more nutty in the books. In Fire And Blood Balerion "The Black Dread" the biggest dragon ever to see Westeros and the only one that ever saw old Valyria flew back to Valyria when Princess Aerea mounted him to escape dragonstone. Upon their arrival to Kings Landing Aerea is found to have worm like parasites inside her that cause enough pain in her that the Maester says Milk of The Poppy can't even deal with it. The scepter recording her tale sad she whispered her longing for death too many times to count and when she died the worms exploded out of her body and died in freezing water. Worst of all Balerion, the biggest dragon that brought all Westeros to its knees, was found to be visibly scarred and wounded. Whatever is in Valyria is much more dangerous then just some stone men.

    • @kden9772
      @kden9772 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave Robb well it doesn’t really matter too much because in the books Griff got greyscale from the stone men in the sorrows and not Valyria. I think casual audiances tend to consider season 5 the worst because of slow pacing, and it's extremely bleak. Other seasons have rough endings but they give you a reason to be hopeful. Season 5 ends with blind Arya, Jon getting betrayed after getting crushed at hardhome, Dany gets carried off while her city is in chaos, and the sparrow takes control of kings landing... Also the sansa storyline is depressing beginning to end.
    For me, and I think most people who really really love the show and books; I would say season 5 ranks 5th after seasons 1-4. This one is where problems begin, but dont fully manifest. I remember the first time I watched season 5, and my first major red flag in the entire series was Brienne somehow bumping into Sansa at the crossroads and proceeding to out Sansa in front of the entire tavern. After that, I'd say the dorne and to a lesser extent the Sansa storylines were just badly botched and hopeless from the get-go, although Alfie Allen gives a great performance. I also didn't like how they condensed Dany and Jon's stories, but they didnt do an awful job with them. Tyrion and Jorah's storylines I felt were the strength of this season, and Arya's story was all build-up, but mostly okay. I hated how they dumped Jaqen being at the Citadel, and don't understand why they made the Waif a complete villain. Oh... and killing Barristan was awful...
    Season 6 is way worse than 5, because that's when the major logic gaps happen. Sansa not telling Jon about the Vale, cersai destroying the Sept with no consequences, Dany winning the war for Maureen by simply killing enough sons of the harpy and leaving. Arya though, that was the worst. My favorite main character season 1-5 became my least favorite. Overlooking her ridiculous sprint across Bravos with her guts hanging out, the ultimate insult was when Jaqen told her she had become noone by failing to do literally everything he asked her to do. It was a buildup to nothing. Then she teleports to the riverlands and butchers the Freys who deserved it, but I was/am still very uncomfortable with how they are framing Arya as an infallible and justified, badass when she is murdering large numbers of people and smiling afterwards. Also killing the Blackfish was just plain lame.
    Despite my problems with the seasons above... season 7 is the absolute worst. It felt like the entire script was lifted off a fan-fiction forum. All that being said... I have, to heavily varying extents enjoyed all the seasons, and will watch season 8.

      Okay well first of all, while I too felt some aspects of Arya's story were kinda boring, I felt they at least showed a lot about her for why she ultimately leaves that joint in the first place (whether you think Jaquen being apparently ready to now declare her a proper graduate was earned or not). And I had tremendous empathy because it's exactly how I felt as a viewer: they had been building up since season friggin 2 what, I thought, anyway, what the Faceless Men were. Now maybe it's on me for misinterpreting this, but it sure seemed to me they were heavily implying the FM were this insanely badass squad of ninja-like assassins who were nobly working to help bring justice within the realm. Sure, you can still go with the talented assassins part, that's definitely true, but when in fact they're a murder-for-hire gang (well, "gang", that place was more abandoned than a college party after the last drunk girl vomits on herself) that will apparently literally kill anyone as long as your check clears. Arya felt so disillusioned by this, and I don't at all blame her. So she goes, alright, thanks for all the fight training, I'll gladly remember and maintain that, but I was sold a bill of goods so I'm outtie, going back home.
      The Cersei facing no consequences... I don't know. For one, I'm not sure we can totally take for granted that all the KL citizens would clearly know that she orchestrated that all by design (and thus I guess more willing and driven to full on revolt...?) Plus maybe frankly she wound up killing most of the legit people who would know and attempt to make her face them, and Qyburn's pretty much the next most powerful one as remaining Hand Of The Queen (right?) and hell he's just about more of a whackjob at this point than she is lol.. Short of her clearly and directly trying to kill HIM, I don't think there's anything he wouldn't just go right along with.
      The season 7 concerns... I don't know if it's mostly/at all thanks to me never reading the books, or what, but I was not at all disappointed like so many others. Though for one thing, a thing we've known for a long time is that Martin did share with D&D at least the broad strokes of what happens the rest of the way. I realize it's been practically all but totally confirmed at this point that the show will NOT have the same exact ending as the books, I'm just not sure I can see where they would've gone SO FAR off and away from them in a macro sense that a good amount of key elements will still basically go down like this on the page. Plus I honestly feel like this different of a "vibe", if you will, to the series was inevitable at this point anyway. Even taking for granted that you DON'T share this complaint from some of how quickly characters get from place to place anymore (which I feel all in all is something so silly to legit be bothered by), it seems a natural progression that the story would now be narrowing its scope and focus most certainly at least as opposed to it expanding it even further. More disparate characters are now having storylines getting closer if not converging totally, and part of the whole point of our hero's journey here was to decrease focusing on shortsighted politics and infighting and realize and engage with there's a war to be waged with what's essentially for them an entirely different species. Of course all of this could inherently make the show feel "different". And finally (fuck, did I really just blab all this shit?? lol) I see a potential irony in your issue that s7 felt too much like fan fiction. I've been starting to wonder lately (& especially as I've REALLY taken a deeper dive over the last few weeks in particular to many of these recap/analyze/theories videos between a couple different channels), will some of the more hardcore fans wind up kind of ambivalent or even bummed about the final season if for no other reason than because it won't really to them hold much genuine surprise. Because there's so much conversation and theorizing that's gone on, there won't hardly be a significant detail that plays out in the actual show that hasn't already been broached and then debated by SOME theory SOMEWHERE?

    Maybe you've already said it, but Iwan Rheon did explicitly cite Ledger's Joker as an influence or reference point for Ramsay. No matter how grisly the act, he always maintains this "I'm having so much fun" demeanor.
    Mind you, I don't think Rheon liked playing the role very much. He did his level best, but Ramsay (as written) doesn't have a lot of dimensionality as a character, the role constantly called on Rheon to do uncomfortable scenes, and Ramsay was divisive in a way that wasn't exactly complimentary to Rheon.

      damn no shit, I'd never known that, that's wild. I still remember when much of the cast did that sort of parody video about producing a Thrones album ("Wild-ling! You make my heart sing!") it was after the Reek thread had already been on for a little while, and Alfie Allen's one of the actors already in the studio, then they show Iwan Rheon walk thru the door. like everyone stops and is totally silent, they do this comical zoom on both Allen's and Rheon's faces going wide eyed and all tense, and then they both break into huge smiles and he yells "Alfie!!" and they run to each other in a huge embrace lol

    You didn't mention Myranda biting Ramsay on the lower lip, the exact same place his starving dog starts eating him at the end of the Battle of the Bastards. I don't know if it was intentional, because it was never really pointed out, and I hesitate to give D&D the credit for actually knowing how Ramsay would ultimately die at that point and subtly hinting toward it. Still, it seems like an odd coincidence that the kennel master's daughter (heavily associated with dogs) bites him exactly where the dog is gonna bite him.
