As a lantern collector, I did not understand this lantern "restore". The lantern appears to be a Petromax knock-off. As such, replacement parts abound. So why not use replacement parts instead of welding and building? The fount could have been soaked in Evap-O-Rust and then lightly polished and waxed or restored by re-plating. The ventilator could have been simply replaced with available replacement parts. The glass globe was really interesting and seems to be a variant of the US Army quadrant glass globes used in the 252 and 252A lanterns. Obviously homemade. Your reconstruction of the glass quadrant globe is fascinating, but way overkill. You could have just replaced with a new glass globe. Btw, I appreciate both Petromax and the knock-off (copies) lanterns. Fantastic design and great kerosene burners! I hope your next "restore" produces better results.
Excellent restoration, myself using Citric acid to gently remove corrosion of those brass parts but grinding goes as well I see, From your vid. I learned 2 possible leakage points of my own lamp, I need to check if these help it to keep its pressure better (using plumbers tape to seal better and that pressure valve on the bottom of the pump) Have a nice day.
Baie Dankie/ Merci. I have the same lamp here. It has been use in the pre-1960's in South Africa. With back-outs of the post-2000's I wante to get the old lamp ready, but know one knows how it works. Not even the old people. I ques after living to European standards for so many decades it difficult to change back ...
Another beautiful paraffin lamp brought back to life. Well, replacing some parts can't be helped because they were beyond salvageable. By the way, you can buy a cylindrical glass shield to replace those panes of glass, just like the one installed in the paraffin lamp we have at home.
What a well made lamp. Excellent job. I wish they made products like that. I’d pay the price. The modern led lamps are great, they’re just not the same.
Hey Aaron, Pretty much the same lamp is still available brand new from more than just one maker, usually googling lamp name "Petromax" helps, Don't know the quality of these modern products, though.... these old lamps have more of "that something", have a nice day.
First.i wanna tell you.wonderfull job. 2.i think u should put glases full ....it ll be no air gap there, so light ll be so bright. 3.missing 1 part.that the cap .usually any cap in top of lamp.
Can't be real because it isn't covered in brick dust or sand and mud. ."covering optional". Check out the stuff from the eastern part of the world if you don't believe me. They really know how to repair things that aren't broken or in need of restoration. By the way you did that piece proud, cracking resto job.
@@MRNVCDIY That, I understand. Lets hope things improve for you and your wallet.. You're at a point now where improving your equipment is about the only way you can do more or better. With what you're capable of, it's a wonder you don't get some paying gigs.
@@MRNVCDIY You're a great restorer. You do fantastic. What you can do, machiing parts and all amazes me.So far as I can see, only the welder could be better. I don't know how much you know about Tig welding, but it will allow you more precision, more filling capacity, and uses less and finer control of the heat to help reduce warpage. If you get one and get some practice and the right rod, you can weld up a soda can.No joke, I've seen it done, tho I was never that good. Most places I worked welding used mig or stick Tig was reserved for fine work.
Where do you live Mr. NVC? It must be on a farm, I can hear the chickens in the background! I love how you restore those old tools, you're quite a talented craftsman. Very nice Origami template! Your rebuilt band saw is getting lots of use.

Does it matter? Rust removal chemicals don't restore the metal, once it's oxidized it's gone. Chemistry only replaces the elbow grease, not the steel. If there wasn't any good metal under the rust layer, it would be hopeless.
Браво! Великолепное восстановление старой лампы! Very good restoration!

I also have very old lamp you can see on my channel

This is some next level witchcraft. The teabag - why does it glow? Why does it not turn to teabag ash? Aliens?

For some reason the chickens had me cracking up. YOu got to show us the chickens.
That NVR pip needs replacing not flattening. Also it is not normal to use ptfe tape as where you use it , it is not needed.
Lovely job!

What grade buffer wheel are you using to polish the parts and was it wet & dry sandpaper you used to scour the smaller parts?
