Hello from the south of India. Watching this brought back so much memories from my childhood. In the village, these were a standard for any festivities and we had one or two lying around in the house. People used to rent these on occasions such as festivals, weddings etc., Glad to see it come back to life. You have made my day. Thank you :)
Amazing job I used to use tilly lamps for fishing nice to see a bit of our forces history revived for future generations. Wish I had your skills and a workshop like you have. Look forward to the next video.
Congratulations my brother for much talent of you that's object have a new life in yours hands fantastc and wonderful i am brasilian and never see a restored with talent how you in my Brazil
Used these camping with the Scouts in early 1970's worked well and lit up tents etc really well...bugger to change the mantle on them. Nice job as ever.
@@طيرشلوى-ن2ن when I look for vintage items, I generally look for Made in USA first, but Made in England comes in a close second. At one time, made in Japan meant cheap crap, then they managed to change that by making quality stuff. Many years ago, made in China actually meant quality, but that was before Mao and all that crap. Maybe someday they'll realize quality will do better. However, you can't really blame the Chinese manufacturers, they make it cheap because that's what the buyers (chain stores and such) want, cheap stuff that doesn't last, that way we have to buy more. Not much of anything made today can be rebuilt, they make it so it's not restorable, generally speaking.

nice restoration. I have an old Anchor lamp (very similar design) in the shed. all the chrome has bubbled, it's rusty as anything after 30 years of sea fishing, a real mess. I keep looking at it thinking I should throw it out. after seeing your stunning job on this one, I think they may be hope for it. wish me luck
Wow that's fantastic never thought you would get it back fully operational after seeing it in one of your vlogs over on retrorestore. Great job Martin. Love your videos.
Lovely job on them mate, really nice touch. My friend and I used to use one of those back in the day to sleep in his garage with for light to play cards to, great memories and a great restoration.keep it up!
Excellent restoration, I actually have the same Lamp and now your video has made me think about restoring my one. So thank You for sharing this video 🙂.
That’s a lot like the Coleman lantern but the Coleman takes two elements. Cool to see a military issue, I’m glad to know at least one army used these style lanterns..
Great job on the restoration. It turned out nice. I just watched a video of a boy who was restoring a similar lantern and he took a wire brush grinding wheel to the brass tank. He could never buff out all the scratches. He put auto body filler on the vent hood. I'm guessing the first time it got hot the filler will bake out. Once again. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Martin, Great job & looks like new, We used to use these lamps when i was serving with 45 Commando Royal Marines on Isle of Skye when you used the ferry to go across. The mantles where so fragile after being fired up like a spiders web. Cheers Dave
Thank you very much for this, I learned that I had a missing washer on the one way pump valve that was causing leaks. After watching this video I finally got my M1 working prefectly. Cheers! Edited because I watched the end now and whilst thinking my brass looked like new (after soaking it in tomato ketchup) compared to yours it looks merely less dirty! 😩👍
Nice polished brass great idea. I rebuilt some Coleman lanterns while back years ago. Maybe I should get them out and see if I can polish them up again. I never thought about polishing them. I hope the tank is brass like yours lanterns are.
shartne Most of the coleman founts are not brass. I strip the paint off mine, apply a new decal and just keep a thin coat of light machine oil on them. IMHO it makes them look much better!
brilliant resto ! lamp looks great ! and ideal for BBQs on summer nights. i still have my parents old tiley lamp in its box , maybe time to dig that out ? good video ! :)
Brilliant. Love these old lamps remind me of my old camping days. I have a few. Nothing better than showing off to the neighbours when we have a power cut .... Every ten years 😀
Nice job! Also they take the edge off the cold in winter. I note you used a plastic cup to soak the cup washer. I collect supermarket milk bottle tops (the plastic ones) for that sort of thing, also useful for mixing things like small batches of epoxy etc.
@@bizarreandbrilliant Yes but.... They are a tad deep for some things whereas the milk bottle tops are shallow. I've also used it for mixing flux up for silver solder.
I have one of these that my Dad used on the farm in the 1950s and it still works perfectly today. A terrific bit of kit!
The end off the video was the best part, watching the bright light brought back some good memories thank you

Simply fantastic Martin. It’s amazing how well items of days past come back to life.
These lamps look great in the garden in summer, I have two tilley lamps and after seeing this i think they need a refresh. A great video.
Awesome job Martin and so glad you restored it and not convert it to electric.
I love these old lamps. I think I could live by them. You did a great job. 💚♰😻
I've got the exact same lamp in similar condition and I've just bought the repair kit for it so will be restoring that soon

No better light than a Tilly. Looking great.
Fantastic, I never knew a lantern could be so complicated
I want it, it’s the best restoration to date. What an amazing job you have done.
I’ve rebuilt several old Coleman lanterns. With a little love, those last forever. Another great vid, Martin.
Used these camping with the Scouts in early 1970's worked well and lit up tents etc really well...bugger to change the mantle on them.

I remember the Tilley Lamp as a kid in Australia, there was one in every home I reckon. Now you have a job to find one.
You can still buy them here in England!

Nice job! Also they take the edge off the cold in winter.
