- I restored this old REMINGTON typewriter that was dumped in someone's backyard in the sun and rain and very rusty, so I bought it and brought it back, being possible to leave a beautiful environment or even use in nostalgic moment to write a text enjoying a cappuccino. I hope you like this RESTORATION and leave a like and be part of our channel.

The Remington typewriter is a mechanical device that allows you to print letters, numbers and symbols on a paper, using a ribbon with ink and keys that trigger hammers with types. Remington was the first company to produce typewriters on a large scale, starting in 1873, in the United States. The Remington typewriters had a QWERTY keyboard, which became the standard for other models. Remington typewriters were used by writers, journalists, secretaries and other professionals who needed printed documents. Remington typewriters evolved over time until they were replaced by computers

I have been repairing and refurbishing typewriters since the mid 1960's and you did a great job. To get the platen, rubber rollers and the top paper rollers to a near new look, use Acetone on a rag or denatured alcohol. On the rubber only, if you use it on any plastic part, it will eat up and distort the plastic, Keep up the great work !

I would add that rubber parts cleaned in this way are best preserved with glycerine. Regards
What do you do for your ribbons? I noticed his ink was a little week.
@@imjimimack Ribbons are fairly easy to find. Even Amazon has cheap ones. A quick google search will turn up lots of options in various colors. Just make sure to keep the original spools if you have them. Re-spooling the ribbon is a pain, but some things they just don't make anymore.

Great restoration and actually very inspiring! I have most of the tools you used, but sometimes think in some of the other restoration videos I watch that I can't afford and can't own things like a sandblaster, or lathe etc .. but to see something as complex as a typewriter restored so beautifully with tools that I actually own, makes me think that I can have a go at that! Forgot to add, Dude - you're a classic restorer. Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata at the beginning when you're disassembling all the rust and grime - somber. Mozart, "A little night-time music" when it's all clean and getting re-assembled! You're awesome 👌

I have one much older than this one, and in much better shape. Mine was stuck in a barn for years and then was thrown out in the dumps scrap metal pile. I just grabbed it and brought it back to the Church. The Crinkled finish, chrome, and all was in excellent condition considering the life it had. These old machines are kinda Kool to have sitting around as decoration. I also pickup old sewing machines too. I think I have 6 or 7 sewing machines in the church.

Hi! I just came across your channel and I love what you have done to restore the typewriter. However as a viewer I don't feel very engaged with the content as it seems to be one long video with very little editing.
I would perfer if there was soft music in the background or I could hear it being aesthetically restored, much like an ASMR channel. It would be also a good idea to add subtitles to explain what you are doing step by step so people could follow.
Just my 2 cents, I hope this helps!! And I would love to see you prosper

If you get the chance, you should buy a sand blaster machine it will save you so much time on cleaning all those parts of the type writer or any restoration job.

And as I sit here watching your patience, craftsmanship, attention to detail, and perfectionism, I wonder in what other ways your mind differs from most people's. Thank you for sharing these videos. Very impressive restoration of what most people would have thought of as junk. And I really liked the color as it looked so 1950's. Great job and I wish all the success in the future.
I do however agree with others that you need more background noise such as your tools working.

Great video!! Love the color! About 49 years ago I spent one summer working in a typewriter shop. My job was to refurbish typewriters from the local school districts. That’s all I did the entire summer!! I knew typewriters inside and out !!!

Um belo trabalho de restauração, parabéns. Guardo uma Remington exatamente igual a essa, e na caixa de madeira original. Era de minha mãe, ganhou de presente lá pelos anos cinquenta. Ela foi secretaria da antiga fábrica de papel Klabin (onde hoje é um grande estacionamento na Rodoviária do Tietê-São Paulo). Guardo essa máquina com cuidado e carinho. Minha mãe usava essa maquina para datilografar os IR de meu pai e alguns trabalhos nossos de escola, e isso foi até quando chegou a era das máquinas de escrever eletricas e os computadores...

The platen is probably rock hard which hardens over the years and impact from the type face….hence some letters cuts into the paper….you can use a green scotch pad and methylated spirits…this will grip the paper and rid of the shine….brilliant restoration

I learned to type with this exact model of Remington... It was a "portable" typewriter with a case that could be transported as a regular briefcase. Very convenient.

Resurrection! I had used only Remington typewriters during my Government days. They are very sturdy and loyal. The coming of electric typewriters and word processing, almost had made these machines extinct. You see them occasionally in some old lawyers office or petition writers shed, all worn out with keys and letters missing, sadly waiting to be torn down. But I like using these machines to type out essays and stories as it is just like writing down my thoughts. Miss these wonderful machines and their clacking noise in offices as reams of papers got typed and stacked!

Having restored a typewriter myself I say "Bravo!"
This is no easy feat, there are so many small parts, it is to bad I didn't see a full disassembly but I wouldn't wish it on anyone any way, still well done!

@@myrestorations I did 2 about 14 years ago. One like this a Singer and another Underwood which was way more complicated, it had all these advanced indentation and margin parts that were extremely difficult to reassemble, wish I had a video like this to help me back then haha!
