      @Aiden Kelsch Explain why he isn't a good Doctor. I've talked to quite a few fans who have been watching since Troughton, Pertwee, even Hartnell. And the majority of them say Tennant was the best, with a couple of Matt Smiths, Tom Bakers and even a Capaldi coming in here and there. But not one of them said that he was nothing short of great. I tend to not listen to the majority on these things, but if pretty much the entire fandom agrees on it, they're onto something.

He's the doctor that portrays the survivor's guilt and trauma of the doctor the best. he jokes almost constantly but it doesn't feel forced. Give Christopher Eccleston credit for the successful revival of "Doctor Who", which he so richly deserves. Whatever problems he had (and still has) with the BBC, he gets credit for this. Had he not left after this one season, though, there likely would not be a David Tennant, nor a Matt Smith, nor a Peter Capaldi, nor a Jodie Whittaker to have adventures to enjoy. Sometimes things do happen for a reason. And not always the way you want it.

What makes him stand out from all the other doctors of NuWho, is that he is basically the template for all of them: the war-traumatized old scientist who lost so much and had to do so much that he didn't want to, craving companionship to heal his heart and on a quest for redemption, to shout to the universe "I AM A SAVIOUR".

    The introduction of the Daleks was excellently written. For fans who were new to Who, Ecclestone's fear/regret of war plus his aggression and his conversation with the last Dalek really conveyed the threat that the reappearance of the Dalek meant. Throughout the series, the doctor fears no one, but one sight of a Dalek and he is petrified. The series also explained why the war is never over and why we keep seeing Daleks pop up in episodes, because the time war is never over, and the battles happen through all time and all space at different points. The only difference is the doctor fights those battle alone now, to keep the Daleks from dominating the entire universe.

  • @deadIynightshad3
    @deadIynightshad3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +79

    If you really think about it, if Eccleston hadn’t regenerated at the end of series 1, the Christmas invasion would still make sense. The 9th doctor now with the time vortex still passing through him, becomes sick with this much power inside of him. He would then become absent through most of the story, and the “Regeneration energy” David Tennant breathed out throughout the whole story could just be the time vortex gradually going back into the TARDIS.
    Sure some short bits of dialogue or short scenes would have to cut, but the story could still make sense.
    I would love if Eccleston stayed for another season or two. It would of been fantastic.

    I’m honestly pretty happy Eccleston ended at one series. I understand his leaving wasn’t on the best of terms, and that’s tragic, but it’s because he only had one series that his run as a whole is my favorite and I can easily say is the overall best. The other Doctor’s are amazing (in fact my favorite is Peter Capaldi’s 12th), but they ALL have episodes I found frustrating or just hard to watch. They all had moments I didn’t like. They all had character portrayals that seemed weird, out of place, or consistent. And that’s to be expected. With the more series, more episodes, different writers, there’s bound to be something that doesn’t work or doesn’t click with the audience. Eccleston avoided all of that and just had a really fantastic run as the ninth Doctor. Series 1 needed to give 110% and successfully bring back Doctor Who to both a new and old audience, and it did (or course not everyone loved everything; why would they? We aren’t all clones). The quality was amazing and there’s not an episode or moment I wouldn’t be happy to rewatch (none were boring, frustrating, or didn’t click with me). It did a great job using the time war to propel the series. There wasn’t a wasted story element in any episode. It managed for every episode to give character development to the main cast, setup for the finale, or both. Best of all it benefited from so many firsts that future series just wouldn’t have as a result of the show going on for longer (first Dalek return for example). Something series 1 did that I REALLY loved and wished were present more in later series, was the Doctor picking up and traveling with new companions he met along the way. It’s something from classic who and series 1, that we regrettably just don’t see much any more. I need more companions from none modern earth. I absolutely loved Jack’s arrival and joining of the Tardis crew. I even enjoyed when the other guy joined even though it was just for an episode. It made the Tardis crew in series 1 more dynamic and changing than it would ever be again in new who. I absolutely loved Eccleston’s run and I honestly, I’m not disappointed that in the end he chose to stay for only one series (the way I see it, that’s what made his run the best). Now if we could just convince the BBC to give Paul McGann one REALLY REALLY good series (or 2 or 3; I’ll take any number they give at this point) taking place between the movie and time war.

      I'm with you a hundred and ten percent but I also know from seeing him speak at Galifrey One that if he had stayed on it would not, could not have worked. It's harsh to hear but he needed to get out and if he had the show wouldn't have been the same. Yes I would have loved to see him with Matt and David at the 50th too bit we got A great story with John Hurt instead. Fingers crossed he did say he'd be game for the 100th if he and the show are still around.
