I think "Dalek" is the one time you were MEANT to feel sorry for them, it and The Doctor had so much in common. Both were cut off and alone beyond their time and their species.
Rose, Eccleston as Doctor, Harkness, Mickey, Roses mum! Brilliant characters. I loved how it was set in a sort of eastenders london, whereas the new ones allways seem quite posh and middle class
Always cutenes overload. And it even doesn't matter which Doctor that is. Nine in Empty child, or Ten in Deadlock. I think Eleven had also one kitten scene, didn't he? I'm not sure.
"Dalek" was a really good episode. IMO, the best Dalek episode so far in the new series. It wasn't just a big huge war like the others. This one had heart.
Personally, Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways is mine. The Daleks were properly menacing and we had Jack Harkness. Also, its almost the only episode where what's happening is a complete failure, and everyone knows it. Sure, the rest of the series had big problems to deal with - cyberman invasion, destruction of the universe, destruction of the TARDIS and time itself. But this season just had the invasion of the Game Station. And even so, it's much scarier. Everyone dies, one by one. The Doctor finds a way of stopping the Daleks, but it requires the complete genocide of the human race living on Earth. He feels it's so helpless that he sends Rose home. No other Doctor has done that in the new series. None of them. Combine that with all sorts of memorable moments, and you've got what is probably my favourite season finale from the new series.
This comment is really late but he was also my first... Which is why my transition to David Tennant recently (as I have only just got into the series and watched the first season) is so hard on me right now, as Eccelston is like THE Doctor in my eyes. I will probably adjust as I watch more of Tennant, but I will always miss Eccelston as the Doctor. :c
Doctor Who was nice an simple during Eccleston's run. Now it just seems way over the top. Loved 9 so much! He had so much character! One of my favourite doctors for sure if not my all time fav!
One of the best episodes. And the line "You would make a good Dalek". So underrated, but such a line, and his face when he says it. He was just told by his worst enemy, the creatures he's spent almost his entire life fighting and despising, and it says he's a lot like them.
I know it's not the focus of the video but that Rose Dalek scene made me remember how great i found most of the Davies episodes, there was a concerted effort to humanize the villains. Not in a "oh maybe they're right..." kind of way, but giving them relatable motivations and feelings e.g. Cassandra was vein, greedy and conceited and she's not a sympathetic character (until the New Earth episode anyway) but those motivations are common in many humans. Or take the Slitheen, they don't just want to destroy the world because "Mwahahaha we're evil", they're greedy and think they're blowing up a planet of "primitive apes". Say we humans found some Island in the pacific that had a thriving habitat Gorillas (which as of now are nearly extinct) on it but also sat atop the largest reserve of crude oil on the planet. Say for some reason we can't move them off the island or they'll die idk, but given the choice of killing an entire species in order to get at the oil i think we all know the major powers would do it without hesitation. Again they aren't sympathetic villains but are relatable/understandable ones. Then the Dalek episode was such a fresh and unique take on the classic villain, and completely flipped on us to where we were feeling sorry for the Dalek and sympathizing with it whilst the Doctor became consumed by hatred and became far more of a villain. I'm far from an expert in Classic Who, having watched it mainly when i was a kid, but i don't recall them ever doing those sorts of fresh takes with villains. They seemed to just be evil because. Even characters like The Master got given insight into why they are the way they are under Davies. It might be the overly light tone that makes me feel this way, but i really feel like they've pulled back from that angle after Moffat took over, everything felt more 'Disney' and like a return to Classic Who, as well as seemingly undoing much of the canon Davies established.
0:19 This moment gave me a pleasantly nostalgic, 'nothing is as it seems' magical kind of vibe. I say nostalgic because the last time I had that feeling it was when I first saw the only good Men in Black film in existence. I simply love stories that make me question my ordinary surroundings. The time he had to relearn how to be "the Doctor". Dalek was the key moment where the Doctor really started to come back, and the Warrior finally started to fade.
I'm honestly quite surprised that they didn't reference that episode with Nine and the Dalek when the Dalek says "You would make a good Dalek!" when Twelve went inside the Dalek in that episode.
I remember when I was younger, my dad used to (and still does) look like the ninth doctor 😂 My dad had the same haircut and same leather jacket. This really brings back memories 😂😂
Ah, Captain Jack. I don't think he normally keeps a gun up there, to be crazy prepared. I think he was just lucky enough with his choice of toys the previous evening.
caleb kirschbaum He was born in Scotland but he grew up here in the U.S., that's why he has an unmistakably American accent, even on Doctor Who. Haven't you seen him on Arrow?
Yes, the ninth doctor could be happy-go-lucky and funny. But he also had the Time War still fresh in his memory, with all the anger and hatred. In “Dalek”, you really see that come out. After it says “You destroyed us?!?”, the instant remorse on Christopher Eccleston’s face is just amazing.
Nine will always be my Doctor. The sassy, tragic war hero guilt-ridden by the worst, unavoidable choice he had to make to ensure the safety of the universe over his own kind. Rose, the companion who desired ambitions greater than the current world could offer her, wanted to see it all and hoped. Nine, the incarnation who was losing his will, had seen it all and regretted. Their mutual, unspoken affection for one another gave, what will always be to me, Nine the most complete arc of any Doctor.
Ecclestone's easily the best New Who Doctor. He effortlessly accomplished in 1 season what Capaldi struggled to accomplish in 3. When you strip their arcs down to the most basic fundamentals, they're the same story but Ecclestone actually had the chops to pull it off, and in far less time on top of that. As for companions, I like Clara more than Rose but in terms of chemistry with the Doctor, she was in an unfortunate position. She didn't get enough time with Smith and Capaldi had no idea how to create chemistry with another person. Clara had to do most of the heavy lifting, providing 75% or even 80% of the chemistry on her own. Without her, Capaldi would have crashed and burned within his first season. Clara should have been doing Series 8 and 9 with John Hurt. He would have known how to actually balance out the chemistry. Capaldi belonged in the Time War. Hurt should have been the final Doctor prior to the Curator.
I sure wished he stayed longer and that he took part in the 50th anniversary. Thank you for establishing the reboot Christopher Eccleston. Nobody since has been as good a Doctor as you.
My first and only experience with Doctor Who was with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor. I just loved how he acted the part and I loved his humour. I only saw his replacement briefly before CBC broadcasting the show. I no longer watch any TV.
"Why don't you just DIE?!!" That was it. I remember very clearly. I felt shivers down my spine and fell in love with 9. Is a pity Christopher Eccleston doesn't have more series. He is not my favorite (12 is), but I have such respect for him, seriously.
I love the episode where the doctor was having dinner with the Slitheen. And when he first met Rose's mother and she started flirting with him and he is just like "no"
It is rather bittersweet watching these and knowing much more clearly now the struggles Eccleston was going through, with his mental health and anorexia. He was always my favourite out of the new series.
9 was the most fun loving, at times very cross (upset) doctor, 10 was the most suave, in-control doctor, 11 was the most childish, emotinal, scary, vengeful doctor. But they were all equally loving of their companions, always did what was needed to keep them safe and always happy to see them in awe of Space and Time.
Christopher Eccleston has such charm and was fantastic in this role (see what I did there?). It's a shame that the BBC didn't treat him like he felt he should have been treated, because I would have loved to see even just a Christmas Special with him. I hope we get a chance to see him in the role one more time, even if it's just a cameo. I would SWOON.
There is so much immersion with the 9th doctor. It really feels like the Dalek and the Empty Child are proper threats. Then we had the 10th doctor with a interesting emotional turmoil and character developement, with an EPIC finale. After that we get the doctor whom mass murder's cybermen and leave his companion to be to die. Fortunately I still have Capaldi to watch and he seems brilliant in his overdramatic acting.
The best part about that clip from "Rose" is that it could actually happen. The London Eye is a landmark, but it becomes easy, if you pass something frequently, to just think of it as a landmark instead of all the other things it is or could be. In my city, there's a little spire on top of a building with neon lights on it, and the color of the lights changes according to the weather. For people who grew up in my city, when it was too small to be a 'city' per se, that spire is iconic. But if the Doctor were to walk up to me and say "I need a way to determine the weather from the roof of this building four block away" would I say "Look at the color of the spire"? No. Not in a million years would I think of that, because to me... it's just a landmark. The same goes for the London Eye.

I feel like one of the lines should have been when he is telling Rose 'who' he is and how he can feel the Earth spinning.
I just realized how much I miss the feeling series one had
As much as I enjoy Season 5, 6 and so far 8, I still think RTD REALLY knew how to tug on my heart strings.
Chris was the only doctor who used the telaphone in the TARDIS
ChrisMac2489
Matt used it all the time
ha never watch any matt smith didn't like him
ChrisMac2489
Why not?
don't know just didn't like him like peter tho
I sure wished he stayed longer and that he took part in the 50th anniversary. Thank you for establishing the reboot Christopher Eccleston. Nobody since has been as good a Doctor as you.
“You would make a good dalek”
*in a later season*
“You are a good dalek”
The first dalek reveal was epic now it's just "here we go again"
pretty sure that rose said bitchy at 1:43
She did
She did
So?
She did
@@tGGgGg-sp9yx jeez calm down
Nine had a simmering rage like no one else.
My first and only experience with Doctor Who was with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor. I just loved how he acted the part and I loved his humour. I only saw his replacement briefly before CBC broadcasting the show. I no longer watch any TV.
My favorite Doctor.
Funny, and sad and angry about his planet being blown up.
"You would make a good Dalek" is, in my opinion, the greatest and most powerful quote in Doctor Who.
"Why don't you just DIE?!!"
That was it.
When I get sad about how Doctor Who is today I get back to those scenes to remind myself how great that show can be.
Should've had "It's sonic let's just leave it at that"
The telephone is actually RED!
5:39 HOLY SHIST I NEVER REALIZED THAT
F O R E S H A D O W I N G
FANTASTIC!!! 🥰🥰🥰 This just made me smile so much!
Well and now we have shi... Hmpf... Tennant again without the reason, BBC destroyed the best thing about doctor who in it's best times.
Awwwww! He was my first Doctor! NEVER EVER EVER SKIP NINE!! He is absolutely FANTASTIC!!
"You would make a good Dalek"
MUM GET THE CAMERA
There is so much immersion with the 9th doctor. It really feels like the Dalek and the Empty Child are proper threats. Then we had the 10th doctor with a interesting emotional turmoil and character developement, with an EPIC finale. After that we get the doctor whom mass murder's cybermen and leave his companion to be to die.
Fortunately I still have Capaldi to watch and he seems brilliant in his overdramatic acting.
That "Fantastic" synchronized extremely well with the music at the transmitter part
I always thought a thousand billion combinations per second was a pretty insane plot point to just casually drop. Think how fast that actually is.
"Blimey you can smell the testosterone"
I agree, the 9th doctor is an endless fountain of manliness
I wish the 9th doctor could've lasted as long as the others, every one has 3 seasons except him
I cannot understand why so less people like Chris E., I always liked all of the docs, him, too with his very nice smile
2:40 the actors must of had so much fun with this scene, laughing, and trying to keep it together at the same time. XD
That smile 😁. He was the perfect Doctor.
The same goes for the London Eye.
everytime he said fanTAStic was iconic
The rage in Nine's eyes whenever he encounters the Daleks; "You would make a good Dalek..."
Bless you for making this
