Went out and tried the floating worm for the first time today. Started with an ewg 1/0 in bubble gum. Guys around me giving me weird looks with my pink worm up until I caught the first one. Started missing them so changed to light wire 1/0 wacky style. After the 4th one guys started asking what I was throwing haha.

Love the floating worm! Had a chance to fish it a bunch yesterday at a pond on a Boyscouts camp. Had about 3-4 ft visibility. Using spinning gear. I used a bigger swivel to help pull it down a little more. Caught around 15 bass, little dinks about 10” long. They would usually hit it on the fall or after one or two twitches. Always after the worm was just out of sight. Tried swimming it just below surface but no dice. Experimented with bubble gum color as well as watermelon seed and ghillie suit. They seemed to prefer the green colors over the bubblegum. Broke off and decided to tie directly to braid just for curiosity. They still nailed it no problem. Overall just a fun time experimenting with that rig!

I use them alot throughout the bream spawn. I like the methiolte, and the bubble gum. My sleeper bait color is super clear water is watermelon with red flakes. I have some that are watermelon with gold flakes and purple. Great bait over brush

matt thanks for the good info on floating worms, April is good to use and may in the north area, time to use them the best, when they are close to there reds, i use them some times in other months , putting a weight just about 6 " above , it floats just about 3 to 6 " above the bottom, in slow moving bait. works great when they are hard to catch. like your video on this. your right on this bait, thank you.

Hey Matt ! the first fishing show on TV I ever watched was Roland Martens, back in the late 70 s. He was using a purple worm, Texas or Carolina rigged, I cant recall. the image of that translucent, glowy, purple worm is still imprinted on my psyche, it still crawls around in my brain to this day ! I checked out Jim Moynaugh s channel, Moynaugh fishes. He was really struggling to find bass somewhere down in Texas, with terrible conditions and very high winds! Man did he look ruff! looked like he has not had a meal in along time... when was the last time he has cashed a check ! question mark. You and Randy Blaukat should team up and send him a care package... With lots of that outstanding tasting BRIDGEFORD beef jerky.... I can count Jim s tournament wins up here in N.W Ontario on one hand... it would take all 4 fingers and the thumb ! Just kidding around Jimmy... Jim is an F ING legend up here ! LOTW

Thanks for the floating worm tips. 🍺. Many of you may not like it but I drink a beer from Chippewa Wisconsin called Leinenkugels Berry Weiss. They are delicious after catching the first bass of the morning, but too sweet for most. It’s one of the only things I have more of then tackle.☺️

Matt ……. Could a split ring placed on the eye of the hook with the swivel attached work? Is there a reason to have the swivel 12 to 14inch away from the hook……. Thanks and as always great content

    • @MattStefanFishing

it can work but i recommend against it as it will make the head of the worm sink faster therefore limiting its dancing motion and gliding motion.

I started fishing a floating worm 25 years ago. Before I knew it was a thing. Me and my dad us to use the pre rigged worms with 3 hooks. I ended up replacing them with a floating worm. I thought I was being inventive. But realize a year or two later it was nothing new. But I use it from spring to fall. I also don’t use the bright colors like most. My favorite colors are black and watermelon candy. Another color I use to use a lot that I can’t find anymore was cotton candy. I don’t use it a sight deal. I rarely see my worm on the retrieval. I’ve caught more bass with this worm than any other bait.

    • @MattStefanFishing

when i say spawning im generally mentioning the season which includes fish in both prespawn and postspawn. Im not a proponent of catching fish off beds and have never done a video on tips to do it. Having said that I will catch them in tournaments to feed my family but rarely do it when fun fishing.
