  • There are so many Senko-style baits for wacky rigs. Which ones are the best? Is there a difference? And what can we do to make all Senko-style baits work better? Do weighted wacky rigs do better than weightless versions?

    If you take those stick baits with no fall action and ball them up in your hand and roll them around a little bit they soften up and they really come alive. Makes a huge difference

      I’ve heard this should be done will all soft plastics. I’ve been fishing my whole life never heard of this till last week. Definitely going to give it a shot. It also makes the appearance change which could also be a benefit

    • @user-ro2qk5sv6g

      I fish Yum Dingers exclusively and the ones I fish have action the same as Senkos. I was surprised to see them score a 1 here. Not sure I do anything in particular that causes them to act up, but I wonder if tempt or water temp have some effect.

    • @texasvet7241
      @texasvet7241 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@user-ro2qk5sv6g the weight plays a factor. I’ve had it where a dinger produced better than a Senko and vise versa. This is especially true in really shallow water. Sometimes the Senko falls too fast. But even the cheap Strike King ones from Walmart work great after balling them up in your hand softening them up. The action increases dramatically.

    • @WhoaBo
      @WhoaBo หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This applies for ALL plastic lures. You have to break them in, just like you break in shoes or gloves. Curl them up in a ball and roll em around in your palm, the. Then lay them out flat and roll them with your palms more. Stretch em with your fingers as well.
      Same applies to a pure that you haven't used in several months...you'll have to break them in again, especially if they sat through the winter.
      If you haven't been doing this, you will not be getting the action you're supposed to get, and you're probably missing fish you could have caught.

    My favorite is the general. One thing I like about the general, is when you work it through the water and stop like we do with all stick baits. The general will hunt. It won’t just shimmy straight back down sometimes it with fall to one side or the other, which I believe generates more strikes.

    Awesome idea to test so many. Last 2 years only sencos I've been throwing are Yamamoto's & Net baits. Obviously use net bait because of bait fuel. I really like the new fat sencos. Their just a little bit different than standard & what everyone else is throwing. I also like the 6 & 7" sencos for same reason

      Every stickbait has a certain way to rig it. Saw many with no action upside down where it didn't cup the water and create the action. None are actually straight they all have a slight curve.

    I think this also shows that there's inconstancy in brands, I've used ones that scored low like the BPS Stik-O and Gambler Ace and they've had much better action weightless than in this video, was actually surprised at how bad they looked here. Either way, I have yet to see a Yamamoto fail on action. At this point I've stopped trying different brands and just settled on the Yamamoto or Reaction Innovations Pocket Rocket when throwing a wacky rig, and a Gambler Ace/Fat Ace on a weighted texas rig/when I want to flip a stick bait. No reason to try anything else when they all consistently produce.
    Anyway, enjoyed the video!

    Softer bait will have more action but be weaker.
    More salt (weight) makes them fall faster but weaker.
    I make my own Stick baits with my own plastic formula that is very soft and very durable. I wacky rig them with an o-ring and easily catch 20+ Bass. They also are more transparent so show color and glitter better. Big companies could do similar but if they lasted longer, people would not come back for more.

      I just struggle with the fragility of the Yamamotos nowadays. Through the grapevine I e heard it’s due to ownership changing, but who knows. The things are DEFINITELY effective, but damn! Working through grass and multiple strikes, I was replacing them around every dozen casts. And that was after readjusting the hook in multiple different ways to make it work as long as possible. And, to be fair, probably 30-40% of the time it might’ve been 2 dozen casts, but that was no bites and minimal undergrowth. We were fishing strip pits in SE Kansas and the Milfoil and just regular growth makes the experience rough. The greenery is in SO MUCH of the water, and that’s where the bass are hiding post spawn. At least there. Did get a few pointers f/ Steve to help w/ that last Sunday, but unfortunately our little monthly pit tournaments are on SATURDAYS so I was a little late!🤣🤣 Hell, I d never heard of Steve til the day AFTER our little competition! 🤣🤣😢😢
