    I just bought the a6000 and all the menu options are crazy! This video really helped, thanks! It would be cool if you could go little more into detail for example for the fn settings, because I have no clue what to set there haha. I am also wondering how I can make good photo’s during sunset or low light conditions, would be cool to see a video about that!

      Clear Images Zoom is not optical, it crops the image, so you end up losing image quality.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It does not lose significant or noticeable quality. Clear Image Zoom uses an pattern recognition database to reproduce the image. I don’t understand it fully, but it works! There is a video made by Sony on YouTue that explains it and also shows optical zoom vs clear image zoom. It’s on the “Sony | Camera Channel” channel lol.

    • @suzesiviter6083
      @suzesiviter6083 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      hikyletaggart: I stand by my original statement, the image is cropped and there is a loss in image quality, Sony uses algorithms which compare adjacent pixels and predict what the missing pixels should be; but never-the-less' its still a prediction algorithm. Yes I do agree the Sony algorithms seem to work better than those from other brands; but you cannot say predicted pixels will ever compare to real data perfectly.
      Obviously predicted pixel filling works best in scenes were you have regular patterns, but give it a scene like foliage; and clear-zoom will have an hard time(relatively speaking).

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Clear image zoom works incredibly well for what I’ve used it for. I enjoy it a lot!

    Eye af is a nice feature but it really shines in the a79, a7iii, and a7iii where it actually tracks the eye. Another thing to consider is back button af. With it set and afc, you can effectively use phase detect with ael and single point af with the middle button on the scroll wheel. Couple with face detection and you have full control of the camera. Back button af does take bit to get use to though but once you get it, you'll not got back.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re right about back button focus! Which I also want to make a quick video about it. I’m just happy the a6000 has this feature at all! Thanks so much for checking this video out and commenting!

    Hi there, Thanks for your video, I would love to know if there is a way to make the display DO NOT turn off when close to the “eye display” there Is a sensor close where we put the eye to see the picture and my display turns of everytime I put my hand close to that sensor and is really enjoying

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have two options. You can either set the camera to only use the back screen, or you can use a little bit of electrical tape, and cover the bottom half of that sensor. I went the second route, as I like to use both the viewfinder and screen a lot. I talk about this in another video of mine (tips n tricks series) 😊

    Thank you so much for all of the info! Can you help me set this camera up to shoot a horse jumping show (outside)? I brought this camera out last weekend and started shooting in the happy plus camera mode bc I have no clue what I'm doing. People loved the photos (the lens was 55-210 steady shot, btw), but I can see that even if I got the horse in focus and great position, the rider would be fuzzy. Help!

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on how much you're zoomed in / how much is in the frame, and your aperture number when shooting. The aperture range for that lens is 4.5 to 6.3, or you can set it higher to have more things in focus in the frame. The lower that number, the thinner, the focus plane is. So if you shoot at say f8, or f11, more things can be in focus because the focus plane is WIDER. You can shoot in "A" mode, which is aperture priority, where you can only control the aperture. So you won't have to worry about other settings. Learning things like this, takes time and understanding. I hope this helped a little!

      Lots of options. 18-105 for a good all around zoom. Sigma 30mm f1.4 for better low light and sharp performance. Sony 35mm for sharp, low light, and it’s light and small. 16-55 is big and heavier but high quality lens. There are pancake lenses for ultimate portability - Sony 16 or 20mm f2.8’s.

    Kyle, can you do a tutorial on how to take a photo of a store sign that's lit up at night? I took a picture of a restaurant, but the name was so blurry and unreadable. I have a Sony A6000. Thanks!

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly because your ISO was way too high. When it’s in an auto mode it highers the ISO to make the image brighter, but when it does it introduces noise / grain. So it would depend on your lens, and if it can let more light in, and then how high the ISO can be without noise. Also, shutter speed, if you had a tripod, you could use a slow shutter speed and get more light, when holding your camera in your hands you can’t use a super slow shutter speed or else you’ll get image blur / camera shake. If none of this makes sense, then I’d suggest checkout out a “shooting in manual” video. I don’t have one yet, but will in the future.

    Quick tip for people trying to balance this camera with gimbals, expecialy Crane v2.
    On most of tutorials the camera after proper process of balancing can be moved to whatever position and stays in that position.
    But to do that with Sony A6000 camera we have to attache some kind of a HotShoe gear (to add more weight to the top of the camera) or to level up the whole camera (i.e. by using a quick release mounting plate). We have to do that because there is no enough regulation on an arm that holds the plate. By regulating it we are levelling motor axis with camera's center of the weight axis.

    I need help in making a decision about the Sony alpha 6000. It’s 11-9-19 and I am looking to vlog and interview people for my TH-cam channel. I’ve been told by my brother that the Sony alpha a6000 will be the best to start with. As I comb youtube the mic seems to be the main concern. So should I buy it or not? You seem to have grasped my attention and you seem genuine. So please if you can help me out. Thx

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d a microphone is the main concern go with the Canon M50 instead, which had a microphone jack. Or wait for the 6100 which will have a microphone jack and a flip up screen. Out this month.

    Hey Kyle. Your last tip: clear image zoom shows at the back of the camera a small setting in wich you change the zoom size, from 50 to 100. What I can’t see on my camera is this smaal setting and I can’t figure out how you change the size, what button of wheel you use to change it. Or is this feature only for prime lenses? I use a Zeiss 16-70 / F4. And can you explane something about digital zoom? Tnx, Arie, Holland.
    Hey Kyle. I found it in my camera! Tnx.
    But ... is it possible you tell us more about connecting WIFI / camera / phone? I cant’t get it working. Tnx., Arie.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you're all good on clear image zoom? You have to be in jpg only and when you have clear image zoom active, you simply zoom in past 50mm. Also the image transfer on mobile, you need the Image Edge Mobile app. The sony play memories app no longer works. Hope. that helps!

      You can add it to the menu you see when you hit the FN button. That way it’s in a quick menu for you to go back and forth. Go to the second tab (gear symbol), Page 6, then Custom Menu Set. There you can add the option called “Quality” which is raw/jpeg to which ever row you want on the menu. Then to access it you hit the FN button and navigate to it and change it when you want in a quick matter! Hope this helps!!

    Nice video. I own a sony a57 apsc camera. But i am not happy with the video with the 50 mm and 55 200 mm lenses. I feel the video isnt sharp enough even with these lenses. Since the a6000 and a57 have the same apsc sensors, i was wondering if it would be useful buying the a6000 since it would give a similar video capability. Or is the a6000 better than a57 in video quality? I cant find any comparison video for the two cameras on youtube. I would be grateful if u could enlighten me about this. Thanks.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may depend on the mode you’re in on the dial. If you’re in auto, or an auto mode, it’s possible those aren’t accessible. I’ll have to look more when I get home from work. Those are all related to the playback of images, so like when you’re reviewing them after taking them.

    • @jordanking7711
      @jordanking7711 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If a function is disabled in the menu's it means that said that particular function can only be used in a certain camera mode (e.g Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Program Mode) and you'll need to change the mode with the dial up the top of the camera where the shutter button is to another mode. It will usually tell you on-screen which mode a particular function can't be used in. As you probably found out, if a menu option/function can't be used, it will be greyed out.

    I think you shouldn't suggest people turn off AF illuminator because you hate it. Instead, just explain to them, and leave it up to them. Warn them that they might get blurry pictures when shooting in low light condition. Other than, it's a good video.

      yup, had the same thing a month ago, thought the light was distracting and annoying while shooting during a dinner in low light. Ofcourse with the AF illuminator off I got the surprise effect in the photos which I wanted, but it took te camera way too long (if not, it didn't at all) to focus on subject.

    • @kyletaggart

      Use a high f stop number. F8, F11, F16. Wide focus. As for composition, it really depends on the scene. Sometimes I try and have an object in the front (rock in a lake) to kind of depict the center of the photo. Sometimes I place the sun or specific object in one of the thirds of the image. Think if you split the photo into 3 vertical bars.

    Fn button is definitely awesome, I use it all the time. Quickest way to edit your shooting settings.
    The fact you can't shoot in RAW with clear image zoom already tells you there certainly is quality loss because it's a digital zoom. You might as well shoot in RAW without it and edit/crop your picture later. Could be though that it works well if you don't want to do that, I never actually used it.

      crappy focus? was the bird not in focus but another part of the photo? a leaf, a branch? I'd suggest looking at the Focus AREA settings, use what gets you the point you want in focus the easiest. Also shutter speed is key when shooting handheld. Needs to be fast enough to freeze everything.

The a6000 is smaller and compact and still packs a pinch as you see. If you want full frame go with the A7III. That camera is light years better than the a6000 and at $2k it’s a steal. A beginner film maker probably would like it, BUT, if you need dialogue sound from people, it doesn’t have a microphone jack. It has a hot shoe mount, but a lot of mics use the microphone jack. I’ve seen a lot of films on TH-cam made with this camera, but that’s the biggest drawback for a beginner film maker.

    I really enjoyed this THANK YOU! I'm supposed to get my camera tomorrow. so excited! There were some parts that I had to slow down the speed of the video so I could write down the steps - it was kinda funny because it sounded like you were drunk LOL but I know you're not. Good job, I'm going to subscribe looking forward to more about the Sony Alpha a6000. I have an old Nikon coolpix - always wanted a DSLR but after talking to a photography pro, he told me about the mirrorless cameras which I could get for 1-2 the price of the DSLR!

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The a6000 is rather cheap. Then you can get a nice lens to go with it! Any questions - shoot me a message on Instagram. Thanks and I’m planning on a lot of videos in 2019!

      when you are setting up the function keys you forgot to mention that the camera needs to be in MR setting for memory recall - is this correct?

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope! Any mode will do. The FN menu is a quick menu you can use in any mode. Memory recall is more for if you have a picture profile, or any adjustments to sharpness, contrast, ect set.
