Another great episode Nate, more musings on how art and creativity regardless of medium inspire and motivate us even if we aren’t consciously aware of it.
Awesome! I'd agree, I'm here for whatever you've in store at any given time. Love your style brother. I really dig your " Book Report ", would love to see that be a re-occurring segment. Your passion for reading and ability to get others, well me anyways, interested is top shelf. Cheers Nate.
Man, I am so glad you decided to talk about Nebraska. I'm a full-fledged lover of Bruce and the E Street Band (New Jersey raised so I had no choice), but Nebraska struck me the first time I listened to it and I still get a similar feeling when I listen to it today. It's awesome that Bruce to stuck to his guns and it's definitely a punk move to drop this as his star only got bigger. The songs still mean a lot to him. Atlantic City is a staple in the E Street set to this day and a few others get included now and then, but he usually has the band add their own parts. The arrangements are well done but adding those elements removes some of the songs' natural gravity. However, I saw Bruce's one-man Broadway show in 2018 where he played some of the songs he felt told the story of his life, one of which was My Father's House, and the arrangement was kept the same as it was when he first recorded it. Hearing that was one of the most powerful, moving experiences I've ever had in my life. For me, it reaffirmed that Bruce has and will always put the music above all else.
Great video as always! It took me a long time to "get" Springsteen. I had friends Who worshipped him, but his music just didn't resonate with me. Besides the biggest hits ofcourse. It was The Rising that did it for me! And then It just klicked and I Iove all his other albums haha. But yeah The Rising is great, It is about some heavy stuff... But also about hope and love. Songs like, the title tack, my city of ruins, waiting on a sunny day, further on up the road are all 5/5 in my opinion. And it was miami steve's comeback album with the e-Street band! Cheers!
Excellent episode, I’m definitely intrigued to hear Nebraska with that context in mind. Thanks for reading my email as well, despite not digging Jim Sullivan hahaha. I’m 1 for 2 in terms of successful recommendations, so not too bad hahaha
Something about the album spoke to me back in ‘83. I’m 60 years old and never a Springsteen fan. Nebraska is the only Springsteen album I own and I still have the OG copy. Never wanted any other.
Great discussion of Nebraska! I don't know if you know this, but they're making a movie based on the book you read. Jeremy Allen White playing the boss
Dear Nate! You mentioned a list inside your mind containing the best ten books about music etc. Have you published that list yet in your fantastic big riff channel? Cheers from northern germany,
Such insightful commentary. A channel for the artist’s artist. I’m so happy I came across your videos. Great work!

Atlantic City is an objectively great song, love hearing Levon Helm play that one
@@BornTooNate Levon is the perfect voice for a song like that!
Great video as always!

If that was a nod to The Sopranos then that was a great way to end this episode.
"3 o' clock"
