Yes, Mitch was a badass drummer. He was also a great addition to 'The Dirty Mac' at the Rolling Stones' Rock and Roll Circus. Lennon on lead vocal and rhythm guitar, Clapton on lead guitar, Richards on bass and Mitch on the skins! Talk about a supergroup. 👍
Incredible. One of the best of his time or of any time. Fantastic drummer. Noel was a guitar player from what I understand. But I wouldn't call him an ameteur. He knew his stuff. If I were in a band with Jimi Hendrix, I wouldn't want to play guitar. Bass would be nice. I could slip into a nice pocket and let Jimi do his thing. I could add to the music by providing the groove and doing that well without trying to compete with Jimi.
I am a Hendrix fan for Life. I studied Jimmi's music and licks for 30 years now. He will always be the GOAT. To me the only guitarist to hold a flame to the GOAT was SRV. When Joe Walsh said he couldn't figure Jimmi out because he's guitar was backwards including the strings is NOT TRUE. If you look at the GOAT playing, his low E string is on the top. If he played backwards, the low E would be at the bottom. I thought this for years and started playing lefty with low E on the bottom. I haven't changed since. Jimmi was a showman and what better effect than playing upsidedown and backwards, and inside out. He will forever be the ultimate champ, guitar hero. ✌️❤️🤗🇵🇸
Robin Trower, former guitarist of Procol Harum, was the first to carry the Hendrix torch, that I know of. He seriously tried to replicate Jimi's "sound", but Jimi's playing technique was steeped in R&B, Funk, even more than "the Blues". Little Richard and Curtis Mayfield had a HUGE influence on his unique playing. In fact, I have heard that when he got to Britain, they said he reminded them of Curtis Mayfield. Before he plugged into Marshal "refrigerators", cranked to 10!
You have the genius of the PLAYING…which people emulate and copy. Then you have the true genius of the creativity. All the greats….its one thing to learn the licks and riffs. It’s another to come up with them. Hendrix and Eddie are the game changers in my opinion. Just devastating in every way.
@@curbozerboomer1773SRV was SO influenced by Jimi & Albert King that I think he had yet to really find his own complete voice, where the sounds are synthesized. He was obviously a great guitarist, but I think he had yet to shed completely his influences.

I have a couple of bootleg tapes, that feature Stills playing bass in the studio with Jimi, and also with Johnny Winter! Stills occasionally did jam at the Scene Club, with Jimi, in 1968. What Stills will not admit to, is that in 1970, at Island Studios in London, he asked Jimi to contribute some guitar on Steve's solo album....but he then decided to erase Jimi's efforts!
Steve Ray Vaughan was clean, very, very clean. And one of the greatest guitarists of all time. and of course Jimi Hendrix was the best of the best and from another Planet.
So there goes Jimi's Inspiration about shows : He followed Johnny Hallyday in France for a tour, at the time Johnny was rolling on stage and going into frenzy during his act, and then he saw Pete Townsend smash the amps, and here you go. The Chittlin circuit had given his the idea of playing under his leg, with teeth and behind your back. All this to give a Wonderfull act from an outstanding musician to glow some more.
Let's get it straight, Hendrix was playing a righty guitar upside down BUT he had restrung it as a lefty. It's what us lefties have done for most of our lives. And that enabled him to mess about with the volume and tone knobs with his wrist while playing to create different sounds.
That sort of concert bill was common at the time. Some shows I saw: 1) Hendrix, Vanilla Fudge, Soft Machine 2) Frank Zappa, Johnny Winter, Mountain and a fourth band I have forgotten 3) Simon and Garfunkle, Lovin' Spoonful. Tickets for these shows were $6 or so.
I saw Jimi in concert in 1968. I was a huge fan. At one point he turned around and started to bang the headstock of his guitar repeatedly into his amp. Great show
I notice one of the things that make Stern a successful interviewer is that he's also coming from a fan's perspective. He asks the questions that most people would want to ask given the opportunity
I love Paul's recalling. So honest and direct. Really sweet. And we know that Paul was responsible for getting him in the Monterey Pop festival which broke him wide open in the states.
Stephen Stills did collab with Jimi Hendrix. Jimi Hendrix is on Stephen Stills debut solo studio album. There's also the 2018 Jimi Hendrix album "Both sides of the Sky".
Me 2! I LOVE hearing Mitch & Jimi, goof on Elvis. We REALly missed-out guyz. Da memberz of JHE, & Band of Gypsyz, were all XTREMELY talented. We only got 2 c a lil glimpse. SMH
Concerts were a bounty of great music in the ‘70’s. My first stint as a photog/interviewer, the venue: Jesse Colin Young, Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Doobie Brothers AND, Elvin Bishop. Three years “shootin’ real Musicians and being a fly on the wall in the Green rooms.🤙😎🕉
He certainly enriched my time on this planet,
"If I don't see you no more in this world, I'll see you in the next one,
And don't be late ."
"I'll meet you on the next one .."
I'm running late and out of time but I'll bring my guitar Jimi and you'll laugh at my crime😮
Jimi was way ahead of his time!
This lyric is why Hendrix is above everyone else
Jimi was an experience for all of us of that generation!!
Saw Jimi Hendrix on my 14th birthday 6-22-69 at Newport Pop Festival in Granda Hills Ca. Made me a musician for life!
that is awesome!
Hey, shout out to you from Granada Hills!
That really is cool as shit!
I was there too. what a weekend.... this was before woodstock mind you
YOU WERE BLESSED
I saw Jimi in 1969 at the V.I.P. Club in my hometown of Tucson, Arizona. What a show!
Unbelievable
Love hearing all these legends Stories about Jimi
There’s no words… well there are. Jimi was and will forever be the greatest guitarist.
And a screaming eagle 101er
A real combat rocknroller😮
No doubt. Pure genius!!
Followed only by Jerry Garcia.
Along with Prince
Jimi is. Morgan freeman 😊
Satriani had the best description and breakdown of Hendrix's playing.
Those licks were badass
True.
Satch is one of the greats himself
Exactly, especially regarding his incredible talent for improvising.
Mitch Mitchell was an outstanding drummer.
So good that even though he was the drummer to the greatest guitarist of all time you can lose yourself in the drumming. Phenomenal drummer.
Agreeeed !!!
Definitely. Of the music I've heard of Jimi, I don't think there was a drummer that worked as well with him as Mitch.

Love the Hendrix stories.
“He had feathers on! He was terrifying!!”
Sorry. Didn't know you already quoted the best line from the best HS montage about the best guitarist.
Joe Walsh is always great. Music, or any story.
That was both funny and a complement. Love it
Howard....is the only one on the planet

Same here bro.

One of the latter albums put together by the estate has Hendrix on bass and Stills on organ doing the song Woodstock.
Dream combo... Even better with McCartney.
This was awesome you can see how much Howard wished he met Jimi.
This is a great compilation. Thanks for releasing this to youtube.
This is awesome on so many levels
Jimi is amazing!
All the ladies loved Jimi
For good reason
Rest in peace

Wish I was alive to watch you play . It’s a couple artist on my bucket lists YOLO

Plus on a Stratocaster the bridge pickup was angled opposite (so to speak) and apparently he got a different type of tone as well.
I thought everyone knew that
@@Sighdaball I've read many times people saying he played upside down and had to reverse chord shapes :/
@StuCrombieMcCartney would do the same.

Chris Squire has a great interview about the first time he saw Hendrix.
Absolute GOLD💛‼These stories (though short) of Jimi are. Really different time.
One thing that gets overlooked is that he was a great writer. He wrote almost all the songs he played..
The way it's supposed to be.
Since I discovered Hendrix in the 7th grade, I was sure I chose to be on this planet just for the music scene
Great Idea for a compilation
The consensus opinion about Jimi other than he was a great guitarist. How nice of a person he was.

love when he interviews bands on their stage. ready to go !

Howard's greatest strength is he is the best interviewer alive. There should be a full collection of his musical interviews.
his greatest weakness is that he sometimes interrupts too much but he is interesting
Yea, 20-30 years ago.
That was a ton of fun to watch Howard. Thank You
